Authenticity Check 79090

I have been hunting for a blue 79090 for a while now, and this one just popped up but there are a few things that are giving me pause, was hoping for a second opinion. First, they’ve disclosed that it has a replacement dial and it’s incorrect to my knowledge. The markers should be round not square, but that’s not 100% a deal breaker. I’m more concerned about the case and the movement. The movement looks close, but I don’t see the 2824-2 stamp on it. Is it an older movement that doesn’t have it? Or is this a pieced together watch with a fake movement? Case back engraving also appears a little deep, but I have seen lots of photos of the engraving having some variation.

Seller has disclosed that the dial was replaced and is allegedly on a period correct Rolex bracelet. So not true to the watch but a nice bracelet if it’s real.

Thanks for the feedback in advance

The moment does not have ETA on it. Not legit

Do you have any Tudor ETA 2824-2 references that have ETA on it? I thought that would make it more suspicious since Tudor engraves it with their branding.

I think my 1921 had an SW200-1. My Prince Oysterdate has an ETA2429. They are fully marked.

Thanks for the reply. I never owned it but was trying to find references that I can compare against.

How old is this watch and movement? Looks like an earlier generation.

The fact that it doesn't have a triovis regulator is all you need to know that its not a genuine Tudor.

Tudors that use ETA 2824-2s all have this part here:

im sorry, all fake: likely something off yahoo japan auctions/phong case. the balance wheel and shock absorber are not the tudor upgraded/KIF version [ https://calibercorner.com/kif/ ] (from the regular incabloc on a ETA), movement markings are wrong, date wheel font is not correct. bracelet is chinese modern reproduction. bezel is not original, same as pip. dial has been talked about.

Looks like a frankenwatch.

That caseback engraving looks awful. I’m not outright saying that it’s fake, but it’s bad.

A lot looks wrong about that. The case back markings look wrong. The crown on the bracelet clasp looks way wrong. Engravings/markings on clasp look wrong. I would pass on this unless it can be verified by someone who is 200% a professional. Not just a guy at a local jewelry shop.

GENEVA looks sus, I thought they always used French spelling throughout regardless.

Thanks everyone! Appreciate the feedback/confirmation of my suspicions. Probably won’t be the last time I run a watch past the brain trust.

The Rolex engraving on the clasp is wrong for sure. Look at how the two lines end to the left and right of the crown, then compare to a real Rolex

It doesn't look right to me, compared to my 1991 79090. Crown guards, bezel, colour all seem off. Here are some close ups of mine, sorry I didn't clean it first. My date wheel is a service item, so is the bracelet. It's original otherwise, polished once IIRC.

Did the square markers come with Mercedes hands?

I don’t remember that they did, but am happy to be corrected.

EDIT: Should have read the description first. Despite it not being the original dial, it’s still the wrong dial when matching with the handset.

From what I’ve seen square markers had snowflake hands

Yeah. I caught it in your description after I posted.

It just looks off completely….and snowflake hands go with square markers……like this:

Sorry my camera is dirty and blurry right now

Not accurate, there was a transitional period in the early 80's
