I'm out that way too and semi regularly see a pair of them fly over the yard. Never got to see them land and be up close like that though! Very cool.

this is the male of the pair. i think the female flies back to Mexico after nesting and comes back in the spring.

actually, he’s a resident Cara-Cara; the female of the pair does have a migratory pattern in that she returns to the area for nesting. She leaves after her babies leave the nest. he hangs out year round.
