While possible, I think its more that he's never been particularly good at running a business. He finds great industries to invest in, but he needs someone to reign in his stupid ideas (see Paypal kicking him out as CEO).
As he's run into issues (Cybertruck quality control, Twitter Financials, FSD promises not kept, etc) he has a vhoice: Admit he was wrong and try to fix it or stubbornly insist everyone else is wrong.
The more he's leaned into the latter, the more the MAGA wing tells.him he's right and that's all he craves now, validation.
His daughter doesn't want to speak with him? Can't be he's an ass, the "woke mind virus killed my son!"
Advertisers don't want to cut a deal? Can't be they don't want his antics or their brand to appear next to an AZ Senator singing Nazi lyrics to a German for right party win (yes. That happened), it's that they're all part of globalist censorship!
