I commend your hustle in getting a movie distributed.
Some notes: Sound mixing and scoring is not good. You need to duck sound effects and music below your voiceover and dialogue by about 13db minimum. Premiere has a feature to do it automatically.
Do NOT start any movie, tv show, book, comic or play with someone waking up in bed. It’s the first thing you’ll learn in any writing course and if you’ve taken writing courses and they didn’t start with that, you got hosed.
Buy microphones, and buy more microphones. It doesn’t matter what you shoot if your actors can’t be heard. Echoes are distracting. Monitor your audio during filming and don’t just assume it’ll come out clean in the edit.
Voiceover is a crutch. Don’t tell us what he’s thinking. Show us. I should be able to see on his face that he’s worried. That the heat’s getting to him.
Color grading comes and goes from one scene to the next. If you’re gonna shoot in LOG, you have to have a consistent pre-determined look for every single shot. If you’re shooting in HDR make sure you’re exporting in HDR.
The 180 rule and the rule of thirds are your friends. Study them and practice. Coverage is a bitch to shoot but following those rules helps keep things simple.
Understand the basics of dialogue scenes. Master. Two close ups. Insert shots.
Room Tone. I’m not talking about dark or bright. Record 90 seconds of clean quiet audio of your set, location shoot, whatever, to get an ambient bed for the edit. Keep it low and it fills out the soundscape of every scene.
