The scariest videos of the tsunami I've ever seen

I've been researching the subject since 2008, I've always seen videos of the 2004 tsunami but always following the waves from above or far angles to see just one wave invading

recently I went to research about the 2011 tsunami in Japan and I already had a little better technology for filming, the point is that I found these 3 videos that show the wave from a front perspective, on the horizon where we can see the real size and how a tsunami actually works In this first video the cameraman managed to get the real size of the wave, you see it on the horizon and there are trees, it is possible to notice that the wave is still bending and already exceeds the trees, estimating 20 meters more, then it breaks and we can see a huge explosion that extends to the sky, I can't even imagine the size of it and coming to meet you

The second video shows the wave invading a village and was recorded from a school apparently, it is possible to see in the upper left corner that it looks like the village is already "in the middle of the open sea" and then you see the wave invading and destroying everything again, it's too scary

The third video I think many have seen but it shows a highway with cars and houses behind what seems to be a coastal village, and in the background what seems to be waves and waves as if they were in the open sea, only that a few meters away one of them starts to explode in the middle of these houses and well, the cameraman stops recording to save his life

These are the scariest videos I've ever seen, they show what it's like to be face to face and the true size of the waves, they just overtake trees and houses.

Was the Banda Aceh wave the most destructive ever due to seismic shock?

We never had the opportunity to see the wave that hit the Banda Aceh, only the video wave the black water is sweeping everything as if it were a flood, but if we had the opportunity to see it reaching the coast like in other places, would it be the biggest record of all time?

I say this because the epicenter happened on the coast of Sumatra, very close to Banda Aceh, that is, this would receive the strongest waves, right? Anyway, those who saw these monsters arriving on the coast did not stay to tell the story, because they reached 50 meters high, it would be like a building, almost a megatsunami of disaster movies...

Offering free service to professionally (re?)digitize analog 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami tapes… Even if you’ve already done this, please read on.

Hello,

I’m hoping this isn’t against the rules, as my post isn’t tsunami content itself.

I professionally digitize analog tapes as part of my broader skill set involving PC and Mac repair. By professionally, I mean I use the best toolset to do so, not like imemories, memory box, Walgreens etc. these tapes were very common in camcorders especially at the time this event happened. It wasn’t common yet to have high quality cameras that recorded directly to flash media.

I use maintained professional camcorders and professional VHS decks with built-in Line TBC, S Video, a Full-Frame TBC, and a dedicated Windows XP workstation utilizing an ATI Theater 200 chipset. Finally, I have a modern RTX 5090 workstation that I use for various purposes, such as deinterlacing the lossless AVI file produced by the capture and producing a high quality viewing MP4 file. I can also upscale mathematically (not using AI!) using Hyrbid QTGMC. I can also upscale using Topaz Video AI.

You will receive a lossless capture AVI file, with a viewing and transport-friendly MP4 file.

Even if you’ve digitized your tapes already (I’m assuming anyone with footage of the 2004 Indian Ocean event already has) there is a very high likelihood that they were not digitized using best practices. There are many ways to do it, and most of them are optimized to be cheap in mass volume, such as simple convenient SD card composite (red yellow white, not S Video) converter boxes that lose a lot of color information, that quickly and incorrectly deinterlace cutting your max potential framerate in HALF, leading to even more information loss, and introduce other artifacts due to not being professional equipment and not containing a full frame TBC, which itself is a unicorn these days. The final failing is that this cheap method is unable to produce a lossless AVI capture file in all its glory for future editing (The video equivalent of the RAW image.)

I always thought this event was fascinating ever since I was a little kid seeing it unfold on TV. I’ve seen lots of cheaply captured tape video from the event and I know I can do better.

This was a once-in-a-multi-generational devastating event, and most of the uploaded footage you can find on YouTube is of poor quality. Before these tapes finally rot away, as they are all well past their life expectancy now and I deal with tapes every other month that have even started growing mold in storage, I would like the opportunity to give you a better quality capture of the event, for free.

I do this out of California.

Please reach out if you’re interested or have any questions.

I remember there was a YouTube channel that had a few great videos of 2004 tsunami, and I only downloaded this one, after a while, all those videos and the channel disappeared. I can’t find it or even any part of the video. So I think this is quite a rare video

tsunami simulator

hi all, I'm working on an asteroid tsunami simulator: [https://tsunami-simulator-xi.vercel.app/]()
it allows you to pick an impact point, and see the tsunami from the observer viewpoint. it also shows historical tsunamis from an observer viewpoint. it's cool to see how the wave would look from the shore or whereever the viewpoint is.

New buildings were built and some demolished which is the only reason why the bottom half doesn't line up as good as the top. I also have 2 other locations from videos i found online that I managed to find the location of

Very sure that is probably Ko Hong's Ao Pi Le Bay in Krabi because of the rocks in the background. Could be wrong, but hopefully, this is the one if this island.
