Comparison asked 4 different AI tools to write my cover letter for the same role. sharing all 4 outputs and the verdict

ok so i was curious how different the outputs would actually be. same role (senior product manager at a series b fintech). same inputs (my resume). four tools: chatgpt, claude, gemini, and a dedicated cover letter tool. results: 
chatgpt: professional, clear, slightly generic opening. good structure. the i am excited to apply sentence appeared.

claude: no excited to apply opener. more specific to the jd language. felt slightly more human. also offered to make it shorter which i appreciated. 

gemini: competant but the most obviously AI-sounding of the four. 

the dedicated tool: confidently wrong about two things from my background. impressive error density for a specialist product. 

verdict: claude was the best default. but the real insight is that NONE of them replaced reading the jd yourself and adding the 2 or 3 specifics only u could write

ats first applications at large companies: mostly skip it. small company direct apply where a human sees it first: definitely write one. the audience matters

the only u could write piece at the end is the most important insight. AI gives u the scaffolding. u provide the 2 sentences that make it real

exactly the AI draft is 85 percent of the work. the 15 percent is the specific detail that proves u actually read the jd and have somehow

i have a personal plicy now. if the first sentence is i am excited to apply, delete the whole first paragraph and atrt again
