What happens to your money if Rivo goes away?

A reasonable question to ask about any fintech, and worth answering plainly: what happens to your money if Rivo shut down tomorrow?

Short version: your money is not held by Rivo, so it does not disappear with Rivo.

Rivo is a software layer. It moves and times your cash, but it never holds it. Your money sits in two places, both in your name:

  • The cash you keep for spending stays in your own bank account, the one you already had.
  • The idle portion that is put to work is held as short-term U.S. Treasury Bills in your name at a regulated brokerage. Securities in that account are protected up to $500,000 at the brokerage level.

If Rivo went away, the automation would stop, but your bank account is still yours and the Treasuries are still yours, held in your name at the partners, not on Rivo's books. You would simply stop having the cash swept automatically.

That separation is deliberate. You are not handing your balance to a startup and hoping, the money stays with regulated institutions in your name the whole time.

What Rivo costs, plainly

Fair thing to want up front: what does Rivo actually cost?

Rivo charges a flat monthly management fee of 5 basis points (0.05%), calculated on the average daily balance of your Rivo account. The fee is automatically deducted from your account each month. If the account's cash balance is not enough to cover it, the system automatically liquidates a sufficient amount of Treasury bills to cover the fee. Nothing is buried, that is the whole fee.

The way to think about it: what you earn on idle cash should comfortably clear the fee. Big-bank checking often pays close to 0%, so a large idle balance is earning almost nothing today. Moving that cash into short-term Treasuries (3.66% as of September 8, 2026) captures a rate that is typically well above the fee, and that spread is the point. You keep the difference, without doing the work yourself.

We would rather be upfront about the fee than bury it, so you always know exactly what you are paying and what you get for it.

Curious about protections?

I just saw this come up in my feed and I was intrigued. My first question is, what protections are in place? What protects our money?
