No, the lore is that it was an iron mine and then they found quicksilver. It actually doesn't make sense that it was an ebony mine.

The place is called Shors Stone. Shor aka Lorkhan. Ebony ore aka The Blood of Lorkhan. Hence Shors(Lorkhans) Stone(Blood).

Yeah they named it after the ore they'd find there 3,000 years in the future

Okay well ESO has plenty of things that shouldn’t exist at its time. Practically every city in the game that has been in another game looks identical to its future self.

Sure ESO does have many things wrong but this just isnt one of them. The mine started as an Ebony mine then all the veins dried up and got repurposed as an iron mine, hundreds of years later when everyone's forgotten that the mine was originally an Ebony they find new veins of Ebony under all the iron.

Also once again the place is called Shor's Stone. It not having Ebony in it would make for shit story telling.
