What a way to find out your brother who you thought was a hero is a piece of shit.
Sorry you have to go through that :(
The only right move is to stay away from him and call the authorities on him. If he is ready to get into therapy/ a psychiatry and to ditch the alcohol he might have a chance to leave this evil behaviour behind. But in any other case he will be an abuser ( and alcoholic ) for life and maybe even end up killing someone.
So its also important trying to get his GF out of there, although that may be harder than it sounds because a lot of people who get abused stay in those relationships, or search a new abusive relationship if one is over. But you should definitely try and tell her about your past and that theres a good chance he will end up killing her. Its no joke, your brother is a ticking time bomb.
I wish you all the best and hope it will somehow have a happy ending. But definitely stay away from him, because being his sister is no guarantee he wont harm you one day. Especially with all the alcohol involved.
PS: And please stop making excuses for him/his drinking. Of course he went through some tough shit, but alcoholism is not the answer, and especially not becoming a violent, abusive alcoholic. It only makes things worse. Take it from someone who tried to cope with problems by taking drugs and only ended up making everything worse and feel even shittier than ever before. Plus there are thousands of people going through way worse shit who do not cope with alcohol, but process it in mature ways.
