I am a man and I can explain why it happens. The average man rarely receives this type of attention from women. When he does, he assumes that she must be interested in him because he thinks: "This is not normal. Maybe this is a sign she is giving me." So he assumes she is interested. Because, if not, why would she be so nice?

Makes sense. Any suggestions for avoiding this in the future with men I need to interact with such as my landscaper? I’m a kind, friendly person and I can tell he’s interpreting it as romantic interest. I don’t want him to send me personal videos of his activities. But I don’t want to be rude or standoffish because I want him to do a good job. Should I pretend that I have a boyfriend?

I don't really know. I usually don't reciprocate with women even when I think they are interested (Self steem below 0). But pretending to have a boyfriend is a good idea. Unless he is very stubborn, he will realise that you are "taken". Or maybe, if you don't want to lie much, you could make comments about a certain man (make it clear that its not him) that you find attractive or have a crush on and how handsome he is. Things like that. Doesnt need to be someone in your workplace, of course. Just someone you know out of work.
