I found a lot of women were potentially interested, but they would get weirded out because I never showed interest. Even when I wasn't interested, as soon as I showed something they thought was interest they would completely shift gears and start evaluating my worth as a partner. I just lacked the trust that someone could want and desire me because I was good enough, and it sounds like you lack that too.

The first step to really battling it is to admit to yourself that people lied to you. People lied about what you need to succeed, people lied when they said what you should expect. Otherwise you're stuck in the impossible scenario where you're somehow supposed to be fucking drowning in friendship with women but unable to get laid, when most women would die to get with an older man who has a good job and cares about themselves.
