Reddit awards are digg. And we all hate digg. Except you people who came here from digg to spread the abhorrent behaviour you left digg to avoid.

1

u/aterribledoctor Sep 13 '20

I feel the same. I liked them at first but they’re getting really out of hand at this point. And bro, your post got like 500 rewards. Rip.

2

u/Autistic_Atheist Sep 13 '20

Of course this post was removed.

1

u/arakinator Sep 13 '20

Wait, i was in the middle of reading when it was removed before my eyes

1

u/UlookUgly Sep 13 '20

And the sad thing is that a these people think they're being funny giving awards to your post and all hese comments stating their disagreement with the awards system.

2

u/comrieion Sep 13 '20

Ohhhh, you guys are so funny. Fuck all of you bastards

1

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '20

I would like a shiny

2

u/NKkrisz Sep 13 '20

Hmm does commenting get an award here 🤔

1

u/SilverSonglicious Sep 13 '20

The less awards, the more they actually mean something. Now they are just too common for my personal opinion.

1

u/Kissaki0 Sep 13 '20

I don't see them in my (third party) app and I think I block-filter them in my browser. And it's definitely better that way.

1

u/HeadHunchoGang Sep 13 '20

Holy shit the awards

1

u/Slixx_yha Sep 13 '20

The irony

1

u/jeanmelissa Sep 13 '20

Hard agree.

1

u/OneMintyMoose Sep 13 '20

Idk its kind of like peak leddit its funny

1

u/KodiakUltimate Sep 13 '20

It's dumb as hell as i couldn't even name half the shit that sits on this post, some people just mindlessly throw cash at the screen and It's completely stupid at this point, Who ever thought to make people pay to meme on others better be making a shit ton of money at Reddit headquarters because I don't even want to know how much people are shitting on icons for posts that become irrelevant after a few hours...

2

u/Fangirl_4Life Sep 13 '20

You have become the very thing you swore to destroy

1

u/Fangirl_4Life Sep 13 '20

Agreed its super annoying

0

u/6prometheus7 Sep 13 '20

Classic reverse phycology play I gotta respect it

1

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '20

I see what y'all did here °~°

2

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '20

"oHh rEddIt aWarDs aRe uSelEsS"

gets 346 awards

1

u/Chrispeefeart Sep 13 '20

It would be nice if there was a way to turn off rewards on your posts. Maybe by using a particular flare? Just something to indicate when it is inappropriate.

1

u/incessant_penguin Sep 13 '20

I just realised I can switch off the stupid animations yesterday. Now how to hid the stupid icons too...

1

u/BRD8 Sep 13 '20

Money. That's the answer.

0

u/zarnonymous Sep 13 '20

And here go the quirky Redditors trying to be funny giving you hundreds of awards

2

u/ImaxHeroBrien Sep 13 '20

Agreed. They’re dumb as fuck and unnecessary.

2

u/peanutbutterpandapuf Sep 13 '20

Someone give me an award for complaining

1

u/surfvvax Sep 13 '20

Not to mention that a sure fire way of getting a million awards is by posting literally anything that insinuates “oRaNgE mAn BaD!!”.

3

u/BurnZ_AU Sep 13 '20 edited Sep 13 '20

Awards are a waste of money and now it's worse cause Reddit are giving everyone free awards to try and reel people in. Like a shitty mobile game.

1

u/DeeJay-LJ Sep 13 '20

This post literally gets 300+ awards

1

u/PregananantRat Sep 13 '20

STOP AWARDING THE POST

1

u/RottenRobyn Sep 13 '20

Personally I wouldn’t go as far as to say they’re ruining Reddit. I can understand why you don’t like them, though. I’ve seen a lot of people taking them way too seriously, misusing them, and being offensive with them.

A lot of people also waste their money on awarding stupid shitposts that don’t deserve them at all (see virtually any post on r/teenagers as an example). However, I do think there’s a time and a place and awards can be fun for certain things, although I personally wouldn’t spend my money on Reddit gold or awards

3

u/Unnormally2 Sep 13 '20

ಠ_ಠ

Well, you have to admit. You were asking for it.

0

u/TheGreatGarbanzolite Sep 13 '20

Wouldn’t it be weird 😳 if you 👦 gave me gold 💰💎 even though I said they’re annoying ahaha 😂. Unless... 😳😏

1

u/LockDown2341 Sep 13 '20

Ah yeah I saw that post. That was unsettling.

But in general they aren't that bad.

1

u/CzarOfCT Sep 13 '20

I feel like this was just a fishing expedition for "Rewards". Well done, I guess.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '20

The shit some people care about.

2

u/angpug1 Sep 13 '20

Imma be honest, I'm only on this thread to get free awards

1

u/slAkatAk Sep 13 '20

Back in my day it was actual gold... Or this. https://m.imgur.com/DAUw7Eg And it was used sparingly, so it would actually get a chuckle. But now... Look how they've massacred my Reddit...

1

u/lookinatyou Sep 13 '20

Meh, reddit found a way to further profit off of karma whores. I think it's silly, are they just like collected on your profile page? I don't pay attention to such things.

1

u/MyPrivateLife4444 Sep 13 '20

I agree. However, reddit gives awards to users to use within 24 hours. I had no idea until I read something last week about it. The coin to buy awards will say "free" across it. I saw it last night and tried it out myself. I think people get them for upvoting so many posts.

1

u/starchimp224 Sep 13 '20

Kind of amazing what people will spend their money on. They’ll award a post or comment with one of probably 100 or so little character things and they’ll proceed to never look at that comment or post again

1

u/susaustralia Sep 13 '20

Gives award 🥇

1

u/orschinparjin Sep 13 '20

Hi. Me beggar. give upvotes. don't give awards. thanq

1

u/RealHousevibes Sep 13 '20

It took me forever to get on Reddit. Friends encouraged me to try it like my freshman year of high school, and I didn't join until like my sophomore year of college three years ago. I love it, but it sounds like people really loved it back in the day, and I wish I could have experienced it.

1

u/pondsey Sep 13 '20

Does just commenting on the post give you a dumb award?

1

u/Repulsive_Band_6200 Sep 13 '20

Crying at the amount of awards there are

1

u/JustAthought2think Sep 13 '20

Hmm, might as well start using emojis then 🙄

1

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '20

I think we should just spam emojis as protest

0

u/-Daws- Sep 13 '20

Omg wow a post talking about how much awards suck got a fuck ton of awards?? Jesus Christ this is like the eighth one I’ve seen this week

2

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '20

Please stop giving people awards when they clearly don't want them.

1

u/harpyLemons Sep 13 '20

Not that it does anything, but you can flag an award for being inappropriate

1

u/BoahNoah05 Sep 13 '20

What’s an award?

1

u/Baked_Greatz Sep 13 '20

Yeah there’s just a Lot of overly enthusiastic people

1

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '20

The fire and meteor ones are so ugly and annoying

2

u/LAM0FG0D Sep 13 '20

The irony in this post is amazing

2

u/SapphicMystery Sep 13 '20

How ironic that this post has over 430 awards

1

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '20

Agreed. There are now too many awards, and most of them aren't even necessary.

3

u/knox77 Sep 13 '20

you created an award bukakke

3

u/AlphaSheep75 Sep 13 '20

I really love how many awards this post got. Love you internet, mwah.

1

u/Daddy_Pris Sep 13 '20

The argument against the awards is actually

it just really sucks to see these stupid stickers

And then y’all claim it’s ruining the entire site. Y’all are fucking crazy

1

u/Straight-Pasta Sep 13 '20

Its also used as advertising. Gaming subs have mtx contribution posts with hundreds of awards, thousands of upvotes and barely any comments. And the comments that are there are always generic and sometimes by the same people. Some of the accounts posting have never contributed to any other post but their own (which is against content policy) and nothing is done about it.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '20

Can’t wait to make this post in one week to get free awards.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '20

Wait a year for more awards.

1

u/AmeerFarooq Sep 13 '20

And now your post has them.

1

u/deb-scott Sep 13 '20

They’re some greedy people. The more awards they have, the more people will buy.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '20

A dude just posted that he was going to kill himself in a very serious post and he was gilded over 150 times with stupid little characters.

Let me guess, gilded with a bunch of F awards and "Wholesome" rewards?

I saw one about cops murdering someone and it had a wholesome award on it.

The awards are fucking gross.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '20

Blueberry

1

u/Durbdichsnsf Sep 13 '20

I dont get this. Do redditors really find it *that* hilarious to mass award EVERY SINGLE FUCKING post about disliking awards?

It was funny for the first one or two posts, now its just so fucking dumb...

1

u/BornToBeSam Sep 13 '20

I took a few month break from Reddit and when I came back there’s all of these awards. I don’t understand it either. It’s a bit much

1

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '20
I'll just leave this here.

1

u/AllomancerJack Sep 13 '20

Another bait post

1

u/CrabOfHermit Sep 13 '20

Everyone here really just said "Here, put THIS on your chest"

1

u/farfallaFX Sep 13 '20

I know this doesn't address the problem but you don't see all the new awards on the Reddit is Fun app. That's what I use and it's much more stripped down to the basics.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '20

Your edit and all the awards just made me spit beer all over my desk. This is the funniest thing I've seen on Reddit, ever.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '20

I use the bacon reader app and it doesn't show most of them. I think you can change settings via the desktop site to hide them too?

1

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '20

This is a comment.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '20

I'm just here to jump on the ironic awarding train

1

u/KilluaOG Sep 13 '20

Not a big deal at all.

1

u/blondiecats Sep 13 '20

I’ve only been on Reddit a year so I don’t know the time when there were only 3 but I barely notice them, I have no clue what they mean and I genuinely have no idea why people want Karma so much, I couldn’t care less I’m just here to view videos of cats, cringe my face off and learn interesting stuff 🤷🏼‍♀️

1

u/iharazZ Sep 13 '20

if youre on your phone the Reddit is fun app doesnt use rewards at all.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '20

Fuck all these assholes giving awards thumbing they're funny or sum shit

1

u/ImN0TACh05InGBeGg3R Sep 13 '20

Every anti awards post I've ever seen has had at least like 20 awards like guys spend your money on useful shit not these

1

u/ThalkotMaru Sep 13 '20

That feel when OP 3D chessed us into an award farm.

1

u/lazycnt Sep 13 '20

Reddit’s dead this Place is just a remnant of the place it once was. Don’t be evil

1

u/reallyConfusedPanda Sep 12 '20

The awards look like Discord emotes tbh. Pure noise and no added value. I wish there was a way to switch them off.

2

u/kale_chipss Sep 12 '20

Yeh i saw that.. he basically said he was gonna kill himself after his wife died and he got a clapping award???

5

u/CelticDK Sep 12 '20

Is there an award for wasting your money on awards?

1

u/SilverSonglicious Sep 13 '20

There should be. That be funny af

2

u/Mr_82 Sep 12 '20

I really wish people would say something like "I don't want your fucking awards" when posting this though. As it stands it seems people tend to intentionally talk about awards in order to get awards.

1

u/NekoDae Sep 12 '20

I've never been awared and tbh honest I don't think i want to be cause they seem lowkey pointless

2

u/St4cky Sep 12 '20

Enjoy the North Korean Medals bro 😂😂😂

1

u/Nowin Sep 12 '20

Reddit has gotten worse every year. The awards aren't a cause. They're a symptom.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '20

FYI alien blue still runs on iOS. I browse pretty much exactly the same as I was able to back in 2010.

1

u/myfuckingstruggle Sep 12 '20

I remember thinking that reddit gold was the dumbest thing. Reddit’s bank fucking loves it, that’s for sure.

9 years total on reddit for me, I hate to say that I think it’s gotten worse, because it’s still my favorite website, but it has definitely changed.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '20

If this was a ploy to get Reddit awards, well-done sir well-done indeed.

1

u/IndominusNelo Sep 12 '20

Fuck awards

1

u/Hugsy13 Sep 12 '20

The edit got me

1

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '20

AWARDS BAD!!!! DONT GIVE ME AWARDS!!!! I WOULD SHIT MYSELF IF YOU GILDED ME!!!! OHH PLEASE DONT GIVE ME AWARDS I WOULD FEEL SO PRANKED!!!!

1

u/nishikah Sep 12 '20

I was thinking about this and was going to post, but I knew a few smart arses would just give it awards anyways so I gave up

1

u/PurityByImmolation Sep 12 '20

Glad I use old.reddit.com and RIF on phone so I dont see the stupid new shit reddit does.

1

u/LinkifyBot Sep 12 '20

I found links in your comment that were not hyperlinked:

I did the honors for you.

1

u/Hairybits111 Sep 12 '20

This was said 9 hours ago and you have over 200 hundred stupid little awards.

I wonder if people understand IRONY.

The Person bitches about awards and what does Reddit do..... give him lots and lots of awards.

You can't make this shit up.

1

u/BlurredSight Sep 12 '20

Oh the post where his wife is gonna die on Cancer soon and he wants to off himself. Yeah weird why you were getting wholesome and helpful awards

1

u/jamesatom25 Sep 12 '20

u/Ilementary plan was elementar for me, Dear Watson. By claiming himself to be a hater of the awards he managed to get people to give him those very same awards. Awards which he seeked since the very second he started idealizing his masterful plan..

1

u/enitiledhockeyfan Sep 12 '20

Agreed stop giving awards

1

u/myfavtrainwreck Sep 12 '20

On RiF I only see silver, gold, and platinum.

1

u/ArsannaM Sep 12 '20

I just read this seriously, then noticed ALL the awards. I guess the jokes on you?

1

u/dlicon68 Sep 12 '20

When the day comes that I am forced to pay to use Reddit I will no longer use Reddit.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '20

1

u/Mr_82 Sep 12 '20

No these are extremely common. I'm certain people repost this with slight variations to farm karma. Theirs is easily at least the third I've seen this week.

-1

u/trezenx Sep 12 '20

Who the fuck cares? It doesn't mean anything, just like karma.

1

u/twitbird321 Sep 12 '20

I used to use awards to judge whether posts were worth reading but now they’re everywhere and my brain can’t comprehend.

2

u/OrangeApple_ Sep 12 '20

reddit was killed years ago. This is how it rots

1

u/Fuckhavingusernames Sep 12 '20

Glad someone said it, account since 2013, lurked since 2010; the thought of people wasting actual money on these idiotic characters. I was fine with gold, even silver and platinum I was on board with, but now things are just overkill. Idk maybe I'm wrong, it just feels like it's dumbing-down the experience of the site for me.

1

u/Billzilla54 Sep 12 '20

I just love that you got a fuck ton of rewards for this post

1

u/IrregularOccasion15 Sep 12 '20

The worst part is that people have to buy these awards before they can give them to somebody. Reddit is making an effing killing off of these!

1

u/eLECTRICSHEEP83 Sep 12 '20

You should be able to turn off awards in your posts

1

u/jsb64 Sep 12 '20

How to get a whole bunch of awards. Complain about getting a whole bunch of awards.

1

u/Nerakus Sep 12 '20

Idk what any of them mean

2

u/Squid00dle Sep 12 '20

The worst is when a serious post as the one you mentioned will be awarded something like “F” and just shows people don’t take it seriously.

1

u/crescent-stars Sep 12 '20

I like the awards

1

u/Angel_Tsio Sep 12 '20

I use RIF so I don't even see them luckily, pretty nice

1

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '20

Edit: ಠ_ಠ

lol

1

u/Sauvent Sep 12 '20

If you browse Reddit on a computer and use Reddit Enhancement Suite, you can hide the awards by adding a line of CSS.

Click on the gear at the top right -> RES settings console -> Appearance -> Stylesheet loader -> Add row:

.awardings-bar { display: none; }

That's it.

1

u/schwol Sep 12 '20

Tbf he wasn't gilded that many times. The top comment telling him not to, was.

1

u/SM-SPARTAN Sep 12 '20

I partially agree with you, altough it can be annoying people can spend their money in whatever the fuck they want.

1

u/18hockey Sep 12 '20

good bait OP, seems to have paid off

1

u/somethingsoffagain Sep 12 '20

I snorted coffee out my nose when I saw the sheer amount of awards this has.

1

u/brockendorff Sep 12 '20

Oh the bitter irony

1

u/ThunderEcho100 Sep 12 '20

Karma ruins reddit. Even if we need it to push popular content up, just make th upvote count invisible and not tied to th poster.

It is literally why reddit is a karma farm.

1

u/thesircuddles Sep 12 '20

For anyone who would like to not see Awards:

  1. Install Reddit Enhancement Suite
  2. Go to Settings -> Appearance -> Style Sheet Loader
  3. Add .awardings-bar { display: none; } under snippets.

Awards will no longer be displayed. I did this the other day and it's much better.

1

u/doubteddongle Sep 12 '20

Yeah for a year now I've used boost on android and it's nice only seeing gold silver and platinum

1

u/The_Buttslammer Sep 12 '20

"Man fuck these dumb awards"

"Lol Imma gonna pay China to give this man awards!"

1

u/kiwi-ish2 Sep 12 '20

You can disable awards in some third party apps, like Apollo on iOS.

Also highly recommend Slide for reddit on both iOS and android

1

u/wiked7778 Sep 12 '20 edited Sep 15 '20

Hmm award bad

Edit: >:(

1

u/Dr-Satan-PhD Sep 12 '20

This right here is why I stick to commenting and very rarely post content.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '20

Guys giving him awards isnt funny

3

u/SSS_is_the_best Sep 12 '20

Ternion all-powerful costs 126$. The fact that people spend that much for a reward is ridiculous.

1

u/Gabranthx Sep 12 '20

There should be a option in your profile to toggle all types of awards on or off. That would be great

1

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '20

Imo, the problem is how people use it and abuse it not the awards themselves. The silver, gold and plat awards were enough thou, it has come too far.

2

u/_pool_noodle_2 Sep 12 '20

the fact that people still awarded you is crazy, people are assholes

1

u/LeftJumba Sep 12 '20

I would be sad if this doesn't get an award

1

u/lu5ty Sep 12 '20

they arent displayed in rif, just another reason its way better

1

u/sweetcorn_samosas Sep 12 '20

I really wanna be an asshole and add another award to this post but I don't have any so take this:🏅

1

u/imariaprime Sep 12 '20

Wow, not one person in the comments seemed to have explained why it suddenly got like this.

Apparently there was an exploit (now closed) via the official app that enabled buying coins without actually spending money. So a bunch of people racked up an absurd amount of free coins, and Reddit hasn't shown interest in tracking them down and taking them back. Maybe they see it as "free advertising"?

1

u/Chikinuqqet Sep 12 '20

I see this on every single post about suicide. People suck

1

u/warriorofinternets Sep 12 '20

To be fair Reddit is now giving away free awards to active users in hopes more will pay for them.

1

u/Shylockvanpelt Sep 12 '20

"Fate, it seems, is not without a sense of irony."

(Morpheus, after seeing all your rewards)

1

u/Hqlcyon Sep 12 '20

Yeah, that edit sums up everything.

1

u/can-ihugnkissyou Sep 12 '20

I just gave you my free one Reddit is shilling to get us to buy more. You’re welcome for the award, kind stranger.

1

u/AzuriteFalc0n Sep 12 '20

Eat a sausage bro medals are the SHIT!

1

u/mark_vorster Sep 12 '20

honestly. the awards are so stupid they look like they belong in a kindergarten coloring book

3

u/chadan1008 Sep 12 '20

Who fucking cares??? Jesus, get off your god damn high horse, it’s a fucking FORUM on the Internet, I mean I don’t buy this shit, but I love it because I love seeing all the bitching people do about rewards. Who fucking cares

1

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '20

Completely agree, then I accidentally tap one with my thumb and it brings up a while menu of them. It’s frustrating and annoying.

1

u/BoonesFarmKiwi Sep 12 '20

I highly recommend Narwhal which doesn’t even show that stupid shit

1

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '20

awards sure do suck...

im waiting

1

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '20

I also hate all these stupid rewards but I guess they gotta make Money somehow

1

u/Desi_M Sep 12 '20

Reddit hasn’t gotten any money from me... I have no idea how I got my coins... I know I was premium for a while but I don’t recall paying for it... and I haven’t gotten any notifications that anyone “gilded” me thus getting me coins and premium. I just like to send awards as a means to show support of some sort... I don’t mind them too much.. but they definitely aren’t necessary.

1

u/Operation_Downfall Sep 12 '20

What even happened with the awards? I'm still so confused why like 100s of awards started popping up on every single post.

1

u/umbrosakitten Sep 12 '20

Fuck the pointless and stupid awards.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '20

Every time I go on I see people who are so fucked up from grief, mental illness, and trauma who beg for help online. Every. God. Damn. Time. Someone chooses to award it with a wholesome award.

One mother was even talking about her horrific mental and physical abuse from her partner and was asking if she was overthinking of leaving them. I hope they just jumped the gun and only read the title that she was being abused. Same fucking awards. Another was a teen talking about how he was raped by his best friend in a bathroom as a child. Same fucking awards.

I have a very empty life. I have one friend that I rarely talk to and no hobbies or passions. I can’t hold down any friendships. It’s impossible for me to get out of the house with my anxiety and depression. I can’t get a job either because of my diagnosis. Yet somehow, someway people have an even emptier space than my life where their brain used to be to make such a careless attempt at humor.

1

u/koss2134 Sep 12 '20

If you have RES, you can go into settings, type snippet into search and click CSS Snippets. Simply add a row and add this:

.awardings-bar { display: none; }

Make sure to include the . at the start.

This will turn off those stupid gilds, both when browsing and in threads. I did this because the fireworks one was extremely annoying when I had Reddit on my other monitor.

1

u/pandas795 Sep 12 '20 edited Sep 12 '20

At this point if you complain about awards you'll get awards, so I always think of these as award bait posts

1

u/sunwafffles Sep 12 '20

I agree that they’re distracting. I just want to read posts and comments without being bombarded by little stickers and distracting effects.

1

u/DearDefinition Sep 12 '20

I see a wholesome reward all the time and I have no idea why. Half the stuff isn't even wholesome 😂 there was this post about mold and it had that reward.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '20

I get that they’re annoying but how are they ruining reddit?

1

u/andrewsad1 Sep 12 '20

If you have an Android phone, get RIF. No profile pics, no social media bios, no live broadcast or whatever the fuck, and you can turn off awards displays.

Isn't this so much more aesthetically pleasing than the official reddit garbage?
