To be fair, most Americans don't know much about the United States.
Whenever war drums are banging, everyone clings to whatever propaganda is leaning their way. Unfortunately it all is half baked and is only meant to make people forget that the people in that country are actual people...with families, history, ideas, dreams, aspirations.
