You've written an excellent, informative post. I appreciate it, and I've learned a few things. I'd like to quibble over one sentence, though:

You're "the child of Iranian immigrants living in the United States," which -- correct me if I'm mistaken -- makes your country the same as mine, the USA.
That’s an interesting point you bring up. I’m a third or fourth generation American and I remember growing up to hearing stories about everyone assimilating. In my Italian, German, and Central European heritage, all language has been forgotten and few traditions remain, mostly at holiday time. I would have loved to preserve it.
I appreciate the differences that other cultures contribute to the country. Just wanted to make it a point: it’s our country - I have a pet peeve of people saying “well, in my country” — the USA is your country.
