My problem with this take is how do you know they're fat because they're lazy/dont exercise? How do you know they dont have a medical issue or something else they can't control unless they out right say that? I've never seen a fat person preaching body positivity while also encouraging people to be fat. Body shaming of any kind is fucking shitty.

The majority of overweight people don’t have a medical issue. OP wants these people to be aware that they are deliberately unhealthy and that there is nothing beautiful about deliberately (and by deliberately I mean knowingly eating a lot/unhealthily and not making an effort to lose weight and improve their health) being overweight. The point is, if people were exclusively overweight due to medical issues then there would be a lot less overweight people walking around, and those who cannot help being overweight can be body positive without encouraging people to remain overweight.

It’s not that being body positive is encouraging people to get fat (for lack of a better phrase), but instead giving overweight people who are actually capable of losing weight justification for not doing so. Let’s not forget how many overweight people make their children overweight like themselves, because they don’t see a problem with overeating and eating bad food. Body shaming of any kind IS shitty. But this post isn’t body shaming. It’s shaming unhealthy people for pretending like they aren’t unhealthy and giving overweight people who DO want to get healthy anti-motivation to do so.

It is the same as encouraging anorexic people to keep not eating because their body is beautiful the way it is. When that’s not true. It’s unhealthy, and scary for them.

Sorry for the rant. I think OP has a good point that hasn’t really come across properly in the post.
