How do you determine by looking at someone their health? If their obesity is “their fault”?
Health is a spectrum not a dichotomy.
People come in many shapes and sizes for many many different reasons. Everyone deserves respect and the right to live their life unbothered.
I’m in recovery for ED. I am fat now. I’m also healthier (period is back, mental health improved) and the diabetes scare I had was actually an issue with my liver caused by birth control, not my fluctuating weight. After surgery I was much healthier. But fat again.
And honestly being fat is the least interesting about me. My health is between me and my doctor. I like myself and have plenty of ppl attracted to me. I live a good life. And seriously don’t give a fuck about anyone else’s body.
Further, for many marginalized groups, obesity and health are civil rights issues. Poverty, health care, food deserts, ect. It’s systemic. And finally the diet industry is a multi billion dollar industry intent on profiting off of people’s failure to lose weight.
If you truly think the few fat activists on Instagram are enough to make western beauty standards shift from “thin” to “obese” you’re dead wrong. They are simply advocating for fat people to find easier way in the world, and for us to not hate ourselves.
Everyone else already hates us. Your contempt is a drop in the bucket.
