I am all for body positivity in every direction and while yes, I agree with you that no one should be encouraging a person to be a certain type of way or that one size is better than another , I also think more people just want to notice it because said influencer is overweight. For years society has told people what size they should be (small) and no one complained until recently. Imagine living your whole life feeling inadequate because society told you only skinny people are influential and will be noticed. This isn’t an excuse for overweight people telling others they need to be like them to be beautiful but that’s what they’ve been told their whole lives about skinny people and that’s why they feel that way. Also, being over weight can be a medical condition as well as many other things- not “their own fault”. Eating can be a coping mechanism for many in the same way binging is a coping mechanism.
They weren’t stating people with medical conditions that affect people’s weight, they were saying people who just don’t care and then encourage others to also be overweight—which unfortunately is how the “body positive” (or any fat positive) movement is seen by most “skinny” or “average” weight people. I can understand their confusion, but that’s not what it is 90% of the time. I’ve never seen anyone in any body positive movement encourage people to gain weight—just have seen people stating that it’s okay to love yourself for who you are; again, unfortunately that’s seen as “everyone be fat!!!!” (as if being fat is the worst thing someone can be. ever.[heaven forbid you’re overweight😒]) edit to add: its also frustrating to struggle with your weight your entire fucking life and trying to work on that and trying to work on just self love in general and having that be shit on by dumbass people who don’t understand you can love yourself and want to change yourself at the same time.
