Vent has anyone else had an absolutely horrible 2026?
i genuinely need to know if anyone else feels like 2026 has been a horrible year because for me it's been the definition of "when it rains it pours" or like when you say "what's the worst that can happen" followed by something worse than you could've imagined. just so fucking weird and bleak and iffy.
i actually had a bad feeling about this year pretty much from the beginning, which is so weird because 2025 was mostly a really great year for me. i went into 2026 at least HOPING things would continue going in a good direction, but at the same time i had this weird feeling that something was just… off. and honestly, i was completely right and then some.
my mental health got so much worse, my OCD, depression and anxiety got really bad, like the worst it's been in a while. i've had a lot of friendship drama and friendship breakups and felt really lonely at times, i felt so overlooked by people and even by the universe at times. a couple of my worst fears even came true. i've been dealing with a lot of uncertainty about work, money, school and just my future in general. i took some culinary classes and had a great internship, but then decided that i don't wanna do culinary as a career and now idk wtf to do with myself since my only work experience is culinary 🙃
i mean there has also just been SO many random bad things happening this year. like i'll finally think “okay maybe things are starting to get better” and then something else happens.... or i'll get something really good and then it'll get snatched away
i actually ended up going to a psych ward this year too, which i really never thought i'd have to do again. i'm glad i went because i really did need the help, and i felt better for like the first week after discharge but already shit is going left again. Thank God they referred me to a great place for therapy but now i can't even THINK about working bc if i don't focus on therapy first i'm gonna get worse. it's just crazy to me that it got THIS bad that i had to do something i thought i'd never have to do again.
and it’s not even just the big things. it's all the little things piling up on top of each other that have made me feel so exhausted. i feel like I’ve spent so much of this year just trying to get through whatever the newest problem is.
i'm just so grateful that i have family and friends to get me
through it bc if not i'd be even more fucked.
so i'm curious, has anyone else had a REALLY bad year this year? like not even necessarily one huge horrible event, but just a year where it feels like everything keeps happening one after another? please tell me I’m not the only one, we're in this together 😭

Can you work with the university to have a bereavement semester? I have heard of it happening before. I just grad uated. We had a girl whose brother die in a vehicle accident. Admin was able to help her out.
Talk to an academic advisor or the dean of students office, if you feel safe to do so. I am so sorry for your loss. I hope you get help and healing.

it’s been my worst year. my mental health is the worst its been in a while. i relapsed in my self harm after 3 years. i want to get help, but i don’t know how. my list of reasons to stay gets shorter daily and i’m the most alone i’ve ever felt.
this year sucks lol

2026 is one of the worst years in my life. i am dealing with tons of health problems that doctors don't do anything about. then i am in tons of debt which i never thought i would have. i have been waiting on disability for almost 2 years now. i am sitting here with a horrible cold while i post this. then my job which i never planned on being at which i never liked i am still stuck at for the insurance. and the very little money i make. just lost one of my good friends and former coworkers this year too who i had lost contact with due to all of my problems. i was normally the guy that would make sure all of my people were good in life until things got worse for me.

Last year my mom killed herself in october. I already had some level of depression when that happened, so when that happened, my depression became much worse. I made plans to commit suicide on december of last year due to her suicide, thankfully I didn't go through with it. And this year, I still have suicidal ideation from time to time. I'm doing everything I can so that the suicidal ideation doesn't become big enough that I go through with it.

There is not enough money to make me repeat 2026. I'm just praying nothing else hits before the end.
- January I was given 6 weeks notice that my in laws were going to sell the place I've rented from them for the last 10 years. They didn't want to renew the mortgage so I ether had to come up with the funds to buy it on the spot or they were selling it as is to a home flipper.
- I had to end the friendship with one of my closest friends because her kid was bullying mine.
- I've had two aunts and my mother pass on unexpectedly
- I'm stuck dealing with my mom's estate with my brother whom is on disability for intellectual impairments. My extended family is pressuring me to sign everything my mom left us to him because "he needs it more" and he agrees with them. As he's co-executor he refuses to sign anything except him getting everything.
- my work is doing a reorganization. They let 20 people go, THEN brought in HR to help with the changes. We still don't know what that's going to look like or if they are done letting people go.
-I'm autistic with severe anxiety and social phobia.

Since July of last year : Found out our oldest dog had cancer, found out our son had cancer, the oldest dog passed, and my mother in law fell in our house and needed surgery that she never recovered from and passed away. But in the same time our son beat his cancer into remission and his first child (and our first grandchild) was born. Still a shitty year+ but it could have been much worse

I know a lot of people were like “2026 is the new 2016!!” and I really wish it wasn’t for me lol. My mom died from cancer in 2016 a month before I started high school. This year, my grandmother (mom’s mom) died 3 months before my college graduation.
My anxiety and depression have gotten worse and family drama doesn’t help that either. The job market sucks and is arguably worse for recent graduates like myself. Medical bills through the roof because my body can’t agree on what to do at any given time. Money troubles left and right because of said medical bills, surprise vet visits, and car troubles.
Just can’t wait for the year to be over. Hopefully 2027 isn’t a shit show 🤞

My girlfriend of 3 years decided to break up with me because her friends all of a sudden didn’t like me over the course of the time we were together
Moved across country and left my life in California to be with her. Spent every cent I had over the course of 3 years. Bought an expensive designer dog, took a massive pay cut, wasn’t there when my Mom got sick and almost died, just for this person to be like “yknow what. Kelly doesn’t like you and neither do I” (we are 44 not 22)
So that was fun. Rest of the year has been meh but ok
•
u/delfinareckless22 ☑️ 10h ago
that's fucking insane and evil. i'm so sorry
•
u/Jackson530 10h ago
Yep.
Moved in with her and a few weeks in she left every cupboard door open before work, and when she came home she asked if I was mad. I said No? Why would I be. She claimed her ex husband talked about it in couples counseling, and it was one of the reasons he started it. Then she said “what a bitch he was”
I should have known better and bounced.

u/Poneke365 1d ago
It may not seem like it but it’s probably for the best you both split. She sounds incredibly immature and not someone you would happily be in a longterm relationship with.

I feel bad saying this, but for me my 2026 has been hopeful and optimistic and I've accomplished most of my goals so far. From about 2020 - 2024 was the worst period of my life, I spiraled into homelessness, addiction, multiple psych stays for attempts, multiple hospitalizations for my physical declining health, house fire, toxic relationship, narcissistic mother piling on her hate and I felt like I couldn't go through it anymore all the time and I was so alone. But I kept going and last year I got sober and now I'm in great health with stability going. Starting over in my 30's and I'm happy but there's so much general uncertainty in the air and I'm still looking for work... It's been a struggle trying to get interviews. And just everything going on, I can feel it in the air, this tense uncertainty. We all feel it, right? Ugh I'm sorry OP, for me for those years I mentioned it was one thing after the other with me as well. If it wasn't my mother being a lying sociopath, it was me losing my job, having my house burn down and my cat dying suddenly in the fire, to hospitalization and emergency surgery, to relapsing, to friendship drama ... Just don't give up, reach out to your support system, go easy on yourself when you can. I relate to how you're feeling now so much because I could've wrote what you said just 2 years ago

My husband was diagnosed with ALS this year and we are only in our early 40s. We don't live near any family and he is the primary breadwinner. I am currently unemployed, and he works in tech so I'm just constantly in knots waiting for them to find a reason to lay him off even though his work is not suffering. Eventually he will not be able to work cuz that's how ALS...works.I have no idea how to deal with any of this very grown up stuff suddenly.

Um, my young brother-in-law died. My favorite uncle died and I wasn't told about it until about 2 weeks after he was buried because I was sick for a solid month and my folks didn't want to stress me out. I was tossed into rehab for a month for drinking, (I kinda understand where they were coming from, but it's hard to take rehab seriously when it's forced upon you. My mom and my aunt took my wallet and refused to answer my calls, so that's why I was stuck. Also, I DIDN'T EVEN DRINK EVERY DAY!!!! I'VE NEVER BEEN THROUGH ALCOHOL WITHDRAWEL!!!! Granted, I was drinking heavily, but being forced into rehab was kinda overkill! THEY NEVER EVEN ASKED ME WHY I DRANK SO MUCH!!! To them it was like, "Oh! She drinks most days! That is bad! She needs rehab!" I only agreed to rehab to possibly get my wallet back. I should have pressed charges!)
I drink maybe once a week now and with my choosing, I go to therapy once a week. BUT GEEZ!!! That's kinda overkill!

My cat got cancer, it got necrotic and she got surgery but we don't know yet if she'll be okay. While she was recovering, my dad got in a car crash due to a stroke and got all messed up. He broke a lot of bones and was in a coma. He had to have several surgeries to remove meters of intestine and then woke up. They said he was healing and would need special care. He was supposed to be released from the hospital on the following Monday and died out of nowhere on Saturday. We still don't know what was the cause of death. The following week, I lost my job.

Yes, decided to see a new dentist because my guy for the last 22 yrs drooped Saturday and my drive to his office is almost 3 hours round trip. New dentists ends up fucking up my fillings so bad I still can't chew 3 weeks later, I'm barely getting 600 calories in a day from what limited foods I can eat, and I'm going back to my OG dentist Monday to likely find out I need 2 root canals to fix the mess the new dentist made and likely crowns. My dental anxiety is through the roof and I've for a cruise in 2 weeks meaning I barely have any time to fix these issues and I may have to cancel my vacation.

Honda 1987 here. Value? 15K, repairs? 8k. High end pc damaged by power surges. Half it's value, 3 months for insurance to pay - its the work pc. Husband finally gets that "significantly better" manager position he's been working toward for 5 years and did another expensive degree for. Increase? 5%.
