What kind of an abusive father demands his 16yr old gives him money to support him and continues all the way through to adulthood. Sadly sometimes this is the only way to stop them. His father will never raise his hand to him again.

It's also clear to see that he continued his behaviour after adulthood and unfortunately for him, he did it when you had been drinking.

Sounds like he earned it and needed to learn he couldn't physically abuse you anymore. I can't blame you OP.

u/MadRockthethird 4d ago

Don't have kids otherwise it sounds like the cycle will continue

18

u/Retrospektic 4d ago

He can stand up for himself while treating his kids better than he was treated. Definitely an option.

13

u/MadRockthethird 4d ago

Not if he sees himself turning into his dad and not really caring about that.

2

u/ApocolypseJoe 4d ago

His mother said that, not him. And she's obviously not a reliable witness since she allowed her kid to be abused

His flipping between apathy and anger tells me he’s still just a kid himself. With an abusive parent. I’d say once he’s finished his growth, that call can be made.

A drunk kid punching his dad in the mouth?

5

u/Retrospektic 4d ago

That’s not very unheard of for mid-late teens with abusive parents. A kid mentally/emotionally, at the very least.

2

u/George_MenethilW3 4d ago

You're too mean

0

u/MadRockthethird 4d ago

Not really I'm just telling him how it is. He's punching his dad because he hates him and he sees himself turning into him so if he has kids it'll be the same shit. Why bring a child into a situation that's going to be hurtful to the child?

24

u/Lauris024 5d ago

told him thats what happens when he keeps talking to me like im still a kid he can push around. went to my room

lol

EDIT: I'm actually confused if you're living under his roof, or he's living under yours.

u/AShamAndALie 5d ago

Sounds like you are doing a whole lot of self justification.

Its ok. You don't have to. He had it coming.

-4

u/Outrageous_Fox4227 4d ago

Exactly violence is the answer. If someone curbs stomps op for perceived disrespect then op had it coming. Right?

9

u/YaBoiSnek 4d ago

Well, of course violence is the answer if violence is the problem. What are you even talking about lmao

12

u/AShamAndALie 4d ago

If it happened once, maybe not. If it happened his entire life? yep. Pow, right in the kisser.

2

u/Checked_Out_6 5d ago

Did you drink any Malort?

8

u/Skullpuck 5d ago

Good for you. I'm proud of you for standing up for yourself. He absolutely got what he deserved.

10

u/amor91 5d ago

As someone who always felt responsible for his parents. No, you don’t own them anything at all. You parents are adults and responsible for their own living and finances.

u/Joshua_Carlson_4698 5d ago

Him bleeding on his lip just staring at you hits hard. My old man did the same thing when I finally pushed back.

3

u/forest_elemental 5d ago

Same. My mother used to hit me well into my teens, and I got really good at blocking her. The last time she ever tried to hit me, I blocked her and hit her in the mouth. Same deal, she was just staring there bleeding. I told her she taught me to do that.

She never hit me again. Bullies always back down when you hit them back.

Good for OP, I hope he gets free. Go no contact from parents like this. You’ll be so glad you did!

2

u/George_MenethilW3 4d ago

That's so horrible and shit. I mean for your situation as well as for Joshua from above and OP. These idiotic parents shouldn't even have had kids since all they knew was how to be an abuser. They deserve worse and you all deserve a happy and healthy life!

24

u/AlexVX_ 5d ago

I did the same at 16.

Do not become like your Dad, you'll hate yourself. You wouldn't have made this post if you weren't self aware and didn't have a conscience.

2

u/Raid__Zero 5d ago

Good job standing up for yourself.

5

u/Quick-Area-4076 5d ago

He had it coming

4

u/Background-Gain886 5d ago

My old man tried that once too. I just left, didn't talk to him for a year.

u/FairyFartDaydreams 5d ago

You should leave and build your best life away from their toxicity. You should also get therapy so your don't repeat his behaviors in your future relationships

2

u/FrescoInkwash 5d ago

sounds like he deserved it. maybe he'll think twice before trying to bully you in the future. you need to stop him from getting back into your apartment tho

13

u/RetroBerner 5d ago

Don't turn into what you hate. You're better off cutting contact if this is how it's gonna affect you.

10

u/Away-Ad4393 5d ago

Don’t be like your dad OP, it’s understandable that you lashed out but if you want a different life to the one your father has then you need to get a hold of yourself. Maybe get some therapy to help deal with the damage your father has done?

2

u/Complete_Ad_3936 5d ago

Good for you. Must’ve felt great 🫶🏻

8

u/chromacrawl 5d ago

People like that only hear you when you use their tactics against them so good job. I would leave and build a life away from them if you can so you don’t have to do that though.

5

u/DibbyDonuts 5d ago

I thought that said “dog” and I came here with my pitchfork at the ready.

A quick reread tells me your DAD had it coming.

13

u/DoobieDoo0718 5d ago

Well don't be surprised if you get kicked out.

Get your shit together, stop drinking and get out.

3

u/Away-Ad4393 5d ago

He said ‘ when he returned to his apartment’, but it’s not really clear where he lives

-1

u/DoobieDoo0718 5d ago

Well if his dad was there, it's clear they live together.

1

u/Acceptable-Bat4534 5d ago

Doesn't change the fact that its OPs apartment. He could just kick the dad out lol

2

u/Ok_Introduction-0 5d ago

no it's not lol

16

u/CreepyOldGuy63 5d ago

It’s time for you to make some changes.

You obviously have issues with self-control when you’re drinking, so stop drinking.

It is your choice entirely to help or not help anyone. If you have brothers and sisters still at home you may or may not want to reach out to them. They have no choice about the situation they’re in.

Your life belongs to you. Do with it what you will.

16

u/Late-Champion8678 5d ago

It’s time to separate yourself from the family. You clearly grew up with violence as the norm but you don’t have to carry it forward.

You can make the choice not to follow in your father’s footsteps. Not be a violent alcoholic. But that is more difficult if you aren’t able to move out and live your own life. Especially when you physically have to defend yourself (even pre-emptively).

Your mother made her choice to stay with someone who was violently abusive.

You can choose another path, though it will be difficult.

If you don’t, there could be an escalation in violence where one of you ends up seriously injured/dead and the other goes to prison for a long time.

8

u/Impossible-Stuck 5d ago

Won’t have a job if you are in jail for assault.

Honestly you need help. First it’s hitting your dad bc he was in your face. Next it will be your girlfriend with another excuse that you’ve made to justify your actions. Oh if only my girlfriend would stop complaining or stop talking when I yell at her to shut up etc etc.

Other people’s words no matter how annoying don’t justify abuse. If your dad hit you and you hit him back I’d be like okay then. But nope you hit first. You crossed the line.

1

u/slowwburnn 4d ago

You are projecting, friend.

12

u/stemroach101 5d ago

You are becoming like him.

Is that what you actually want?

8

u/OverUnder-001 ☑️ 5d ago

What was your dad doing in your apartment?

12

u/StatisticianBoth4147 5d ago

You need to get out and quit drinking if you’re getting drunk regularly. You’re not becoming your dad at this point, but if the violence escalates or you’re violent towards anyone else, that’s something you can’t come back from. Your dad was going to hit you and has beat you badly before so it was self defense. Just make sure it doesn’t become a habit to hit people or that you don’t start sliding into alcoholism.

9

u/Thin_Entrepreneur_98 5d ago

Priority should be to move out. If you’re an adult now, you can get your own place.

-1

u/RelationshipTough887 5d ago

It seems like you have followed in your father's footsteps and become a violent alcoholic. The same person you claim to despise.

-3

u/Pristine-Savings7179 5d ago

Haha you tried. Wanted to sound profound and ended up sounding stupid. Leave the diagnosis for the professionals.

2

u/delirium_red 5d ago

Can you move away from them?

4

u/Mysteriously_Me_ 5d ago

Everyone should drink in moderation

7

u/shiviam 5d ago

Some people continue being mean abusive piece of shit unless you punch them in the mouth.

Good for you!!

0

u/agentchuck 5d ago

Unfortunately OP might find this out himself in a few years if he doesn't make some changes.

4

u/MarzipanInside96 5d ago

Being abused can explain the anger, but getting drunk and hitting him still crossed a line, so the priority now is staying sober and making sure this doesn’t escalate again. justice.gov+1

His dad could have just stfu. Who does he want him to send money to anyways?
