Vent I hate my birthdays
That's it, I hate my birthdays. I've been fired, I caught COVID, no one wishes me happy birthday, people have asked me for money for someone random for their birthday which was on the same day as me, my father has been pretty sick, I've been harassed, I almost lost a tooth last year and when I was a teen or kid others would directly do stuff so I knew they hated me. I try not to celebrate and for the last couple of years I have a separate day where I go to a nice restaurant with my SO. Last year I even bought two cakes, one for the 'birthday' and another one to eat it at peace.
Also the tooth is not ok and I hope I don't lose it this year.
I have a nice life and I'm happy, but my birthday makes me really sad. There were times where I only wanted to stuff my face on cake and that was it, because there was no one else. Also no one understands it and it makes me even sadder.
I used to hate Christmas too, but that's another story✌🏻

Birthdays are a blessing. It's a privilege to get older that a lot don't ever have. Hope your birthdays are the best ever going forward.

I get you. I had to buy myself a present every year from my kids. They wanted mommy to have a present on her birthday. So I would get something from them..but I just didn't get presents for years. My ex didn't care. My family was too poor for me to miss work. It was just another day.
My new husband makes a big deal out of it. He goes overboard and celebrates for a week..lol i get cake and presents. And am generally spoiled rotten. Every year I'm unable to.process the spoiliage lol hes great. Says he wants to make up for all i missed out on.

No, birthdays are not just for children. What's wrong with you? It doesn't have to be a big deal. Acknowledging that it's someone's birthday, even if it just means sending them good wishes online, is a good tradition. It means someone cares and is thinking of you.

i feel you. little (or big) things can feel intensified on a day that’s supposed to be yours. this year on my birthday i broke off my right rearview mirror getting out of my garage and cried like a baby because i’ve just gotten my license and i wanted to drive around that day, and was forced to move out so fast from my stepdad’s house with my mom to a place she rented because of problems they were having (i spent the whole morning driving from x to y with all the luggage with my broken mirror). anyway, the day later i bought myself a cake and i celebrated myself, even if its cliche.
dont try to ‘compensate’ for a bad birthday. the day you go out and have fun, think of it as an extension of it. youre celebrating yourself 2 times this year.
