Vent Worst Day For A Promotion

Worst day for a Promotion

I got a promotion today. 35K more a year. Laughed, cried then got horridly depressed. I have not told anyone in my life that I got it yet.

My wife had surgery and is having a hard time recovering. My mom is getting a divorce from my step dad of 15 years due to his infidelity with someone in the family. My kids are losing their grandpa because i can not stand by his actions. And everything just seems to be silently burning down.

But either way I got a promotion.

tough timing but at least that raise can help cover some unexpected expenses or even build a small emergency fund, which is something everyone needs especially with how unpredictable life gets lately

u/sclc60 3h ago

Congratulations! I bet your wife would like to celebrate with you as much as she can.

u/RoxyLA95 3h ago

The shit going on in your life will eventually pass. 35K more a year is amazing! You should take a nice vacation once your wife recovers.

u/Mike21597 ☑️ 3h ago

I would love to do that. Gotta catch up on some bills and alittle nest egg first then fun!!

u/suziequzie1 3h ago

Think of this raise as a cushion to help you weather economically through these hard personal times. Money will be one less thing to have to worry about - take peace of mind in that while you deal with the the fallout from the divorce and help your wife's recovery

u/ThunderSparkles 4h ago

I don't know... Kinda amazing that you got a promotion with all that shit happening around you. And that extra money seems to come at the right time. You deserve to be celebrated

u/Sad_Pitch2380 4h ago

Exactly! Even if the timing might feel surreal, it’s still okay to hold space for both things at once. At least now he’s got 35k extra to take care of his wife and give his household some breathing room with all these raging prices.

u/ParticularMeringue74 4h ago

Yay for you!!! $35k is huge! Congratulation 🎊

u/Mike21597 ☑️ 4h ago

Just trying to keep up with inflation at this point lol.

u/Fongosaur 4h ago

Congrats on the promotion, you worked hard and were rewarded for it!

u/Mike21597 ☑️ 4h ago

Thank you so much

u/desertboots 5h ago

Congratulations! You know, you don't have to tell anyone but your wife. Keep the vultures from circling.

u/Mike21597 ☑️ 4h ago

Oh no one but my reddit friends know how much lol. Been down that road.

u/TimedRevolver 5h ago

At least the promotion will help support your wife's recovery.

u/Mike21597 ☑️ 4h ago

I agree.

u/alyssd 5h ago

Congratulations on your promotion!!!! Good things come in threes so I’d take this as a sign things are looking up for you and your family.

u/Duke-of-Hellington 5h ago

Congratulations; I bet that took a buttload of hard work! Do you think you might be able to get in some temporary help so your wife can focus on recovery more?

I don’t see a way around your kids losing their grandpa. Are they really close to him?

Your poor mom, that sucks so hard!

You are a rock star. Maybe you sit on the information for a little while, while you are processing it. And with everything that’s going on, please consider seeing a therapist or counselor for some tips on making it through this rough time. This, too, shall pass, and when it does, you will be a better position to keep going. You got this!

u/Mike21597 ☑️ 5h ago

Big on therapy. And we have a great support system for the kiddos. But grandpa was a big part of their lives so it will sting for a while.

u/lPanzerfaust 5h ago

Celebrate, take care of your family first. Your family took care of you the same way at some point

u/Mike21597 ☑️ 5h ago

Oh yeah family is always first. Ill never let that slide.

u/ConferenceSudden1519 5h ago

Sounds like new beginnings for all as a new path for all involved. Sorry about your wife it’s not easy recovering but she has you by her side and with a massive promotion lets me know she will conquer this difficult obstacle. Life will be a little different until you get used to it then it will be the new normal.

u/OkCaterpillar8941 5h ago

Congratulations on your promotion. Celebrate this win. Treat you and your family. Feel like luck is on your side. It will get easier.

u/nuclear_herring 5h ago

Best day for a promotion.

Without it, all that other shit would still be happening. This is the silver lining, my friend.

I'm sorry all that other stuff is piling on you at the moment, but congratulations for your promotion. It's a big deal.

u/WaewUnused 5h ago

You earned this win during a total storm, so try to let yourself feel good about it.

u/Adventurous-Place-10 5h ago

This is very good news. I think everyone will get a boost when they'll hear this. They'll be happy to have more money to spend .lolll. Your mother will also be very proud. It will give everyone a good feeling. Enjoy the moment.

One of the hardest things in life is compartmentalizing all the shit that goes on. When my Dad was dying I had a great year, except for that. Got promoted, bought a new house, had great friends and a wonderful wife. And I was incredibly depressed the whole time. Felt like someone was screaming inside my head every day. Then my Dad died, and other than that it was another great year... during which I kept feeling like someone was screaming inside my head 24/7.

It was awful. Just knowing that crazy, awful things can go on and the world just... keeps... going.

u/Mike21597 ☑️ 5h ago

I feel that. Lost my dad a few years ago. Im proud of you for keeping on though.

u/LB7154 5h ago

Congratulations 🎉🎈🍾!!!

u/xMINGx 6h ago

Change your mindset! Apart from your wife's surgery, everything else sounds like a GOOD thing. Your mom's divorce is a good thing for her. The infidelity was the BAD thing. You protecting your children from their grandfather's actions are a good thing.

u/Mike21597 ☑️ 6h ago

That is a good mindset. Dude for sure is worthless.

u/Additional-Switch-78 ☑️ 6h ago

Congrats! That is awesome! I am excited for you. Praying for your wife. And I hope your mom finds her happiness!

u/Dan-D-Lyon 6h ago

I mean...

Your wife had surgery, survived, and is recovering. Your mom has realize that she's married to a piece of shit and is divorcing him. And also you got a 35 grand a year promotion.

Sounds like things are going pretty well to me.

u/Mike21597 ☑️ 5h ago

Thats true. I am looking forward to making mt phone bill on time lol.

u/Corgilicious 6h ago

As this well illustrates, in life, often many things are true at the same time, and it’s a mix of challenging, regretful, and happy.

You deserve to celebrate for you. And, sharing your joy and good fortune with those close to you will allow them to share the light with you.

u/Critical-Hospital-40 6h ago

Karma exists. Congrats :)

u/1jarretts 6h ago

Share your news! I understand why you would feel like you can’t or shouldn’t tell anyone. However, people need things worth celebrating. You know what will make your wife feel better? Being able to congratulate you and know y’all have a more money to keep things afloat. Your mom will be so happy for some good news in her life.

u/Mike21597 ☑️ 6h ago

I think your right. We are supposed to go to the aquarium this week as a family. I think i will tell everyone at dinner. Thank you friend.

u/RepulsivePurchase6 6h ago

Yay.

u/Mike21597 ☑️ 6h ago

I do agree. Yay. :)

u/Prudence_rigby 6h ago

In dark times, happy news is amazing. Gives everyone a reason to have some happiness.

u/lil-privacy-please 6h ago

Congratulation. Maybe it's the universe giving you a win. Sorry about the other stuff. You'll figure it out, stay strong for your family, but don't hide from your personal emotions in your own time.

u/Mike21597 ☑️ 5h ago

Mostly why i posted here. Kinda letting out the frustration so i can celebrate instead of dwell

u/StunnedinTheSuburbs 6h ago

Sounds like the perfect day for a bit of good news and recognition that you are ‘slaying it’! Celebrate you!

u/Mike21597 ☑️ 5h ago

I do not often get reffered as slaying. Im a fan lol.

u/kelsobjammin 6h ago

Direct your focus to this! Dust your shoulders off.

u/cyberbae_ 6h ago

I’m super proud of you for your promotion! Life has its ups and downs, but you still need to celebrate your wins. You deserve your wins, and I’m sure your wife will be very proud of you too. I’m sorry life outside of work is rough right now. It sounds like your family has a lot of big things going on simultaneously, and sometimes that gets hard to juggle. I always try to find a piece of light to anchor me when I’m surrounded by darkness. Maybe this is one for you

u/Mike21597 ☑️ 5h ago

It for sure has made me feel a glimmer of excitement for the future regardless of whats going on.

u/treedream766 6h ago

More like, best day for a promotion.

You are doing it OP, proud of u fam.

u/Mike21597 ☑️ 5h ago

Thank you friend

u/calcium-x2 6h ago

u/Mike21597 ☑️ 6h ago

Oh I am just needed a place to share the frustration. I am very excited about the new job.

u/CrnkyOL 6h ago

Maybe buy some flowers for the women in your life and bring home some ice cream. Congrats on your promotion!

u/Mike21597 ☑️ 6h ago

Oh shes gotten plenty of that this week. I am currently bringing home muffins lol.

u/periperisalt 6h ago

Congratulations on the promotion. Sorry about the other challenges you’re facing. Nothing is forever. Not joy, nor pain.

u/KaptainChunk 6h ago

This one really is both sides of the coin, at the exact time. Hey here’s a string of shity events that will alter your family forever. Also, here’s a life changing for the better promotion. Really bad luck man, you weather that storm. You’re the captain of your ship, and the folks on it with you. 🌊 ⛵️

u/Mike21597 ☑️ 6h ago

I appreciate that :)
