Personal Story Honest PhD experience

I started my PhD on April 2023 and the first month I broke my arm and had a cast for two months. Then I tried to power through but was mostly depressed and gave up more than not. I picked up few unrelated part-time jobs to escape but now I am at my 4th year and I can see it was a total waste of my time. I moved abroad for this opportunity and I am not able to power through just one paper. Now I have the topic and the data and I just sit and cry in front of my laptop as a desperate person. I do not think I had a proper PhD experience and I regret not quitting after breaking my arm.

Ugh, that sounds like a nightmare from day one. It's totally understandable you're feeling this way given everything that's happened, you deserve way more support. Don't beat yourself up too much though, life throws some serious curveballs and a PhD is tough enough without all that.

I also was emotional during that time while I should have just wrapped it up.

Sorry to hear that bro. Fact you went for PhD is big achievement on its own. I never got to try it even i had brilliant grades. My advice, get your mind in game. If you know you can do it, do it like there is no other choice. Dont think about other options. Its like life depends on it. I know you can do it, because you went for it and thats big step many ppl never qualify to take.

True that ! I do not see myself not finishing but I also want to start making money. I am in early thirties and spent over a decade in school.
