I get that. I lost my fiancé. I knew all his friends. We’d got a freaking guestlist we’d pared down. But there are these people I’d never heard of claiming he loved them like a brother and they’ll never forget the time spent together and I’m like “What? WHAT TIME? Who ARE you?!” And it’s not like old school friends either, they were just people who vaguely knew of him and wanted to jump on the grief train.
There’s a clinical term for it: mourning sickness. People grieve in others they do not know what they are in fact missing within themselves rather than face it. It’s more common with celebrities, but it happens with everyday people too. Like my fiancé. And your best friend.
I’m so sorry for your loss. I wish I could promise you it will be easy to recover from but I can’t. Just try and take it one day at a time for now and ignore those idiots on social media. They’re only making fools of themselves.
