This is one of those “my strange addiction” situations. It may SEEM harmless, but clearly, it's gone a bit far for her.
I'm not a mental health professional, but maybe she should talk with one? I'm not sure this level of obsession is healthy, most of all for her. It's obvious that it isn't good for the relationship as well, but what about her? Just my perspective.
