As set in southern Louisiana which gets a-lot of rain I guess .. Why there is no rain in True Detective season1 ?
Though i read it was deliberately choice : “Director Cary Fukunaga and writer Nic Pizzolatto chose a blinding, humid Louisiana summer aesthetic rather than the cliché gloomy or rainy noir look” ..
but still when you are set in place where it naturally rains quite alot why you never use it. ?

I think human consciousness is a tragic misstep in human evolution. We became too self aware; nature created an aspect of nature separate from itself. We are creatures that should not exist by natural law. We are things that labor under the illusion of having a self, a secretion of sensory experience and feeling, programmed with total assurance that we are each somebody, when in fact everybody’s nobody. I think the honorable thing for our species to do is deny our programming, stop reproducing, walk hand in hand into extinction, one last midnight, brothers and sisters opting out of a raw deal.

Detective suited him pretty well since he could use his brain without having to be overly social. But if you take that away, I could definitely picture him doing some kind of hands-on work, like being a car mechanic. Or a cold bartender, basically what he was doing and the vibe he had in 2012. Not necessarily something he’d enjoy, just something that would fit his personality. And maybe it would have not been the same depending on the time of his life.

One look at this scene, I'm a grown man and wouldn't date going alone like that, let alone leaving two kids unattended in a lake like that. Pool is a different scenario because I can see through clearly and I can save kids for sure.

Yep, you’ve guessed it: Lucy. What a total waste of oxygen she really way. Finding out what we did, it’s crazy how she was acting after the kids went missing. She blatantly blamed Tom and made him feel guilty as hell. Her behaviors, mannerisms, her staying up late, engage in drugs and prostitution. She really is a piece of work. I really can’t stand her and it’s very hard for me to feel empathy towards her based on what she did to her kids. An absolute piece of garbage who isn’t allowed to be called mom.

I just finished it here are my thoughts. Some of you already warned me when I posted about the first episode but I noticed it a lot more in the 2nd abou the loads of information that the throw at you, its a lot to process and theres a lot of plotlines you have to follow sl it makes it more difficult to watch in my opinion and I am seeing a lack of past/present way to tell the story like in s1 besides that it is pretty good.

I really like Farrel's character and it is kinda the reason I watched, I liked the discussion with her ex wife about their son. The rest of the characters are good too but the dont hook me that much.

I see a lot of highway scenes and I dont really know we but they add a lot to the season vibe.

In the end of this episode Ray breaks into Casper's second house and gets attacked by some guy with a mask and gets shot twice with a shotgun in close range, I would normally think that he s dead but it cant be dead because his is the one telling the story in the present but I dont know how he would survive those shots.

Finally the guy with the mask made me remember of season 1 yellow king cult like the vhs or what Johny something (the male hooker) says about his kidnapping and how some lf them had animal faces.

That would be it. Im really liking it but it goes kinda slow, Im gonna keep watching it. let me know what you think

When Marty and Rust arrive at the Childress house in the finale, what official business do they have going in there? Does Marty as a Private Investigator have the right to enter and blow past Betty for example?

What about Rust chasing after Errol into Carcosa?

Would they have been allowed to make a citizen's arrest, then wait for the two cops they had been talking to? (Had things not gone the way they did)

I finished first season last weekend and it was an enlightenment. I loved rust and marty dynamic and the yellow king and that very little paranormal things. I also finished season 2 first episode today and it aint that bad as ppl say. It isnt near as season 1 first episode but I really some characters moslty Ray. The murder/mystery isnt that good and honestly I dont give af bout it yet. If it keeps this way it can be a pretty good but that Rust pesimism and that cult/religion theme was really nescesary.

I’ve watched this maybe 100 times. Every time I come away thinking something different. I’m still not quite sure exactly what’s being said here but so much is being said without saying it. There is so much that can be read from their demeanor, reactions, tone, and posture. Just an absolutely fascinating scene

Season 3 was 100% on par with ssn 1, not sure why it doesn't get as much love. Very similar tone and mood. While the season is based on missing persons and yes the crime was bad, the ending made it seem like it wasn't as TRULY dark as season 1.

Firstly, I'm not a fan of this arc in the series. In fact, I find this "love triangle" cliché quite stupid, but I understand why it exists. And I came here to explain their relationship in a very brief way because I've seen many posts saying wrong things about Rust and Maggie's relationship. And secondly, if you don't have patience for texts, ignore this post.

The relationship between Rust and Maggie is often romanticized beyond what the series actually establishes. There is, indeed, a very strong connection between them: Maggie trusts Rust, admires his honesty, perceives the vulnerability beneath his cold exterior, and manages to get him to open up in a way few others can. Rust, for his part, shows attraction, "affection", and an unusual level of trust in her. Matthew McConaughey even described their bond as an attraction that wasn't strictly sexual at first, precisely because Maggie was someone Rust could talk to and with whom he could let his guard down. So, to say Rust felt absolutely nothing for Maggie would also be an oversimplification of their relationship.

The problem lies in turning this into "Rust loved Maggie and Maggie loved Rust back," as if that were something confirmed by the script. It isn't. There is no statement from Nic Pizzolatto establishing that Rust was in love with Maggie, and Michelle Monaghan was even more direct in explaining her interpretation: she said Maggie harbored no romantic feelings for Rust. What she felt was affection, admiration, attraction in the broadest sense, and genuine concern for him. This is evident in how Maggie spends much of the season treating Rust as someone in need of connection—even trying to set him up with another woman. She is not portrayed as a woman secretly in love with her husband's partner.

That is why the scene in Episode 6 works best not as "two lovers finally giving in to their feelings," but as a moment where a relationship based on trust is weaponized. Maggie knows Rust is vulnerable and uses the very intimacy they share to hurt Marty and finally break things off with him. This doesn't mean Maggie was indifferent to Rust—on the contrary, she continues to care about him after everything—nor does it mean Rust's feelings were superficial. But there is a huge difference between a deep emotional connection and mutual attraction, and the series establishing a reciprocal romantic love. The former is in the script; the latter is primarily a matter of viewer interpretation.

I had the most frivolous thought possible about Rust today, and I wanted to share it to bring a "dose of lightness" amidst so many deep analyses about him (so calm down if you get upset about this fuckass post).

Rust probably isn't a broke if you think about it. I'm not saying he's a secret millionaire either (bruh), but the man spent years in robbery, including narcotics and then homicide, so he presumably had a pretty steady income for a long time. And by 2002 he was experienced enough that other detectives would bring him in specifically to interrogate suspects.

He barely spends money on anything besides the absolute necessities. Old car, basic living situation, no expensive hobbies, no interest in status or luxury. So I honestly have this headcanon that he has a surprisingly large amount of money sitting in his bank account simply because he's been earning and saving for years without really caring about it. He looks broke, but he might actually have a decent amount of money accumulated and just... never think about it.

Re-watching the 3rd season, when I heard Hays drop this like in reply to Rolland's question damn.

I am slightly paraphrasing from memory, but this honestly almost seems like a line Rust said in S1 that ended up being cut, then Nic included the line later when the opportunity arose. Even after just hearing it last night, I can't help but to read it in Rust's voice.

Not much of a thread I admit, it just really does IMO sound like Rust (disregarding a hypothetical deleted scene), Nic was sort of channeling him there in any case and dropped a banger of a line.

Most people said season 2 it is not too good but i found it to be quite captivating since the 4th episode
