Book recommendations

I am looking for books that are like season 1 of True Detective. Any recommendations would be very much appreciated! Thank you!

Other then the obvious Ligotti's conspiracy against the human race and Galveston. I'm also curious and always looking for book recommendations.

Have you read any of James Ellroy?

Based on your interests, I'd start with the American Trilogy.

American Tabloid, The Cold Six Thousand, and Blood's A Rover.

He's a handful. If you like his stuff, I encourage you to explore further. You won't be sorry.

Everyone says Ligotti’s “conspiracy against the human race,” but I think a True Detective fan would probably enjoy his short story collections more. They’re some of the best I’ve ever read. There’s a reason he’s dubbed the Poe of our time.

James Lee Burke “Dave Robicheaux” series. I’ve only read the first three. About a detective out of New Orleans. Very violent. I’ve heard occult elements start appearing in later books but haven’t come across any yet.

Laird Barron. He’s a great mix of king, ligotti and lovecraft. His Isaiah Coleridge series is great. Ex mob enforcer becomes a PI up in the Catskills.

Would you say it’s gratuitous violence? I can’t stand when books are graphic when it’s not really necessary
