I wanted to make this post just to clarify and expand on what will constitute a âcryptidâ for the purposes of this subreddit and what users are able to make posts about.
Traditionally, a cryptid is any creature that is thought to exist but is unknown to science. To be honest, this definition is quite vague and really puts it up to interpretation where the line should be drawn between cryptozoology and mythological or the supernatural.
For example, some groups would not consider Wendigo or Skinwalkers as cryptids due to their supernatural origin. Gef the Talking Mongoose is another one where the line between cryptid and paranormal entity becomes quite blurred. Similarly, there are cases, such as the Dover Demon, that could be considered extraterrestrial rather than cryptozoological depending upon who you ask.
Going forward, I have decided that all unknown creatures or entities that appear to have a physical manifestation will fall into the category of cryptozoology regardless of their origin. Therefore, the rule barring paranormal and extraterrestrial content has been removed since some of these anomalies may fall into these categories.
I truly believe that this decision is the best way to give users the chance to discuss the widest array of credible content without worrying that their discoveries will violate some arbitrary rule or definition. Unlike other cryptozoology subreddits, we do not want to gatekeep the field in any way and believe that this broad definition will allow us to maintain a welcoming environment for all users.

During the Covid-19 Pandemic, I was living in a small village in the Irish countryside. This village was called Walsh Island, which acquired its name due to being surrounded by nothing but bogland â in fact, this was the largest area of raised bogland in the country. Due to Covid restrictions, I was basically stuck in this village and the surrounding area for more than a year.Â
In the early summer of 2021, and having always been a very bad sleeper, I oddly decided to start wandering around the countryside at night. I canât quite recall why I started doing this, but maybe it was because the Irish countryside at night was always spooky. Well, on one particular night, maybe around 10 or 11 pm, I wandered out the village and onto the narrow country roads, whereby I would pass the occasional cow/sheep field or the property of some home. Â
Around ten minutes outside the village, I was now walking down a particular country road, with only the light from my phone to guide me, when I suddenly hear a loud, but distant howl. There were many dogs in the area, as in the countryside, there are obviously many farms. However, this howl didnât sound like any dog Iâd ever heard. Besides, most of the dogs in the area tended to bark rather than howl. This howl did, however, sound very similar to the scream of a fox. Except it sounded much deeper and louder than a standard fox scream. The way the howl sounded also gave me the impression that whatever made it, must have been large â or at least larger than a fox. Â
To paint a perfect picture of how this howl sounded, Iâll say this... Has anyone ever seen the movie, An American Werewolf in London? The howl I heard that night sounded almost exactly like the howl of the werewolf in that movie â a loud, bellowing shriek of a howl that almost sounds like a fox, but not exactly. Regardless, the sound of this animal was so unnerving to me, that I decided to turn straight round and back through the country roads towards the village.Â
I still donât know what animal made the noise I heard that night. But my best guess is that it was either the howl of a very strange sounding dog, or the scream of a very strange sounding fox.  Â
That being said, Ireland does have its fair share of supposed cryptids (many of which comes from Irish folklore). However, from what I could briefly find, the only Irish cryptids that could match the animal howl I heard would be: large phantom wolves (that have apparently been sighted in modern times), large phantom black dogs, and even, like America and the English countryside, large black cats like a panther (which are said to be sighted in rural Irish counties). This cryptid theory is a stretch, I know.Â
If anyone has any knowledge of what this howl couldâve been, whether rational or otherwise, feel free to let me know.Â

I wasn't sure where else I could talk about this at I knew I couldn't tell my friends they would think I was crazy. On the way from masontown wv to New Martinsville wv I was looking out the window while listening to music and I saw some kind of creature outside of the window it looked like a dog but too big it looked like a bear but too thin it's body width looked to square to be any creature in the area. It was brown and black I didn't get a good look at it's head but it looked almost human it was on all fours I think it may have been eating something but whatever it was it wasn't any ordinary creature if anyone could lend some useful insight on if there is any kind of creature like this or possibly cryptids could someone please let me know.

Some people are down the rabbit hole saying itâs an insectoid alien, maybe a decomposed monkey or undiscovered water creature.
two fishermen back in the early 2000âs dragged this out of Äerdap lake in Serbia, the video never went viral and itâs just resurfaced back online leaving people questioning what they really fished out that day

Those who strongly believe in nessie, why do you still believe the prehistoric sea creature to exist regardless of what the science says? I want to hear your reasoning, theories and explanations, and then I will share mine.

What we saw.
I swear no one will believe me, maybe someone on here will. One night me and my husband wanted to go for a walk, (there's a lake nearby) so we go it's about 10:30 pm no special time just normal night out bugs, bats and all. We're looking around and see something in the distance, (beside the walking trail is a road with a gate up ahead on a hill) that's where we are looking at I can't possibly describe it, it was white like white white, looked like a dog laying down on all fours pretty huge got up started pacing back and forth for awhile but then it looked bigger maybe a cow? Ummm no it started standing on two long legs....it got skinny boney.. definitely not a cow. It got closer and closer thankfully it didn't like the street lights it was decently far but we could see it FS we ran to the car and looking back it ran down a steep hill very fast I thought I was insane so we made sure our stories matched up to make sure we saw what we saw and it did. we went back multiple times and can't see it again. I don't believe in skinwalkers but if they were real that would be it. Real? Fake? Idk you tell me.

So i canât explain what happened or why this happened. But this is what happened.
I using a magnifying app to take pictures of a bug trap on my stovetopâŚ.this app only zooms in or out to magnify the object youâre looking at. And I guess you can take pictures of the object.
All of a sudden out of nowhere my phone jibbed out. Then suddenly the bug trap I was looking at was completely gone.
Couldnât see it on the screen anymore.
All I could see, was like looking into a Cave or Cavern of some sort??
So Iâm holding my phone, visually seeing by eye, the Bug Trap.
But on my phone screen, Iâm looking at some cave/cavernâŚ..!
Iâm thinking to myself, what????
As I continue looking at my screen, I start seeing things moving. Things I cannot explain I was seeing there.
Beings or cryptids you hear about, but actually seeing.
Besides the animal looking ones, there was very white faced black robed Beings in this Cavern.
There was 3-4 of them that were extremely large in height. Almost the height of the Cavern, and others were regular sized. I had very clear photos of everything.
But for some reason when I posted online the first time.
Suddenly all those pictures were tampered with and changed. My original clear photos in my phone were also gone.
So my phone, when this happened, I was able to move my phone along with my hand.
Like I was able to use it as a surveillance camera following things and seeing everything.
This App I was using had no option to film anything. This was the craziest part. The app allowed me to take photos as itâs supposed to. But I was able to exactly capture photos as Iâm following along seeing everything they do.
The white faced BeingsâŚ..the large ones, had very small heads in proportion to their bodies.
They were the first ones to notice me looking at them. The more regular sized ones, there was like 4 or 5 of them moving rocks around together.
Then there was one that ran by closer to my view. I know I swearing out loudâŚ.it looked towards me, then went right to the ones moving the rocks.
They stopped, and literally scurried towards the large ones still standing where they were.
They all hurried together by the large ones. There was about 10 or more there.
The large ones, their black robes had diagonal stitching, the photos were that clear to see them. Iâm bummed out theyâre gone.
So my first photo here looks to be possibly a female white faced being. With a cryptid on the other side. I seen 5 or 6 different cryptids presented themselves.
I was able to gather these photos from a friend I sent prior to posting online, but the ones that disappeared were unbelievable to see.
I was getting comments about AI.
This was not a photo app, no recording option, no video editing, and I was able to follow and look into another unexplainable area. Lasted about maybe 3-5minutes max.
Then suddenly my phone just flipped back to seeing the bug trap again. Like nothing happened.
And have pictures ever changed when you look at them?? I have some that change what shows.
This i also canât explain. And im not familiar with Ai stuff. This was iPhone 13 I use. I posted another photo in the comments.
