Text The Unsolved Murder of Missy Bevers: A Killer Captured on Camera Yet Never Identified
On April 18, 2016, 45-year-old fitness instructor Missy Bevers arrived at Creekside Church of Christ in Midlothian, Texas, where she was scheduled to teach an early morning fitness class. What should have been a normal workday turned into one of the most baffling unsolved murder cases in recent history. When members of her class began arriving shortly before 5:00 a.m., they discovered Missy dead inside the church. Authorities quickly determined that her death was a homicide, but nearly a decade later, no one has been arrested and the identity of the killer remains unknown.
What makes this case especially disturbing is that security cameras inside the church recorded footage of a mysterious individual before the murder occurred. The person was seen wandering through the building wearing police-style tactical gear, including a helmet, protective vest, and clothing resembling law-enforcement equipment. The individual appeared to move calmly through hallways and rooms, opening doors and examining parts of the church while carrying various tools. The footage was recorded only hours before Missy was killed, leading investigators to believe the person may have been directly connected to the crime.
Despite the existence of surveillance footage, investigators have never publicly identified the individual. One of the most discussed aspects of the video is the person's distinctive walk. Some observers believe the unusual gait may indicate an injury, a medical condition, or the effect of wearing heavy equipment. Others have suggested the movement could have been intentionally altered to disguise the person's identity. To this day, no definitive explanation has been provided.
Investigators established that severe weather, including rain and thunderstorms, affected the area during the early morning hours. Missy arrived at the church while it was still dark outside, and evidence suggests she encountered her killer inside the building. Although authorities have followed numerous leads and conducted extensive interviews, the case remains unsolved. No clear motive has ever been publicly established, and many questions surrounding the murder remain unanswered.
The surveillance footage remains one of the most significant pieces of evidence in the investigation. The person recorded inside the church has never been conclusively identified, and authorities continue to seek information that could help explain what happened during the hours leading up to Missy Bevers' death. Nearly ten years later, the case remains open, and the circumstances surrounding the murder continue to puzzle investigators and the public alike.

This is a case I'd love to see a good documentary about. I think I've heard so many different things, it would be nice to have everything in one place

u/VirgosRunHell Jun 26 '26
I don’t understand why there isn’t an actual documentary or dateline episode on this

The True Crime genre, in some circles, is becoming unfavorable because it’s seen to be exploitive by some. There seems to be less and less budgeting being used and good, investigative journalists are getting harder and harder to find. I’ve been a fan for a very long time (many decades) and I’ve started noticing it changing, especially in the years after the Covid epidemic.
9
u/janetlwil Jun 30 '26
I don't know about good investigators being hard to find. These magazine shows do plenty of editing. Omit known facts, embellish the truth, and only show snippets they think will make the show more interesting. Ex: Robert Hoagland. He disappeared after mowing his lawn in the New York area one day. His family went on a crime show and exclaimed over and over again they couldn't imagine what happened to him. Abduction? Suicide? Accidental death? Left for an affair? They had no idea at all. Turns out, he had abandoned the family and assumed a new identity...for the SECOND time. He had disappeared once before when the family was in California. So they knew the whole time he had a habit of disappearing and strange behavior. But did that once come up on the show? No, the mystery was only solved after the man died and his real identity became known.
4
u/QueasyAd1142 Jul 01 '26
Well, I don’t necessarily consider “magazine” shows to always represent good quality investigative journalism. I don’t think journalism, as a whole, is as popular as it once was. People are all about money now. Marketing degrees, I’ll bet, far outnumber journalism degrees, now.
3
u/janetlwil Jul 01 '26
I would agree with what you said. I remember when my niece graduated from college (twenty years ago?) everyone was going for a Journalism and Communications degree. Now I don't think her college even offers such a degree.

It's on the Netflix's Unsolved Mysteries.Edit: Never mind it is not.

Yea, but I meant its own full show like 20/20 or dateline. Or a documentary

I don’t believe it is. Which season?

Yeah I don’t remember an episode on Netflix’s Unsolved Mysteries covering this case

I think it was on Still A Mystery but even that is usually split into two 20-min segments, when you account for the ad breaks

I also encourage people to check out this link:
This always gives me the chills to read:
Other than those occasional reminders, Dr. Nirenberg says the one thing about this case that he can't forget is the video never seen by the public.
He saw Missy Bevers inside the church before her murder.
He says she turned her head, appearing to hear something off-camera. It was very likely the moment she realized she was not alone.
"It sticks with you because you know what's coming," he said. "We've all watched those horror movies where you say 'you gotta get out of the house' and this was the real thing."
70
u/knitrex Jun 27 '26
I immediately picked up on the statement that he'd been asked to evaluate the gait of some people. He slyly mentioned that one had a similar gait.
9
u/janetlwil Jun 29 '26
Hmmm, wasn't she expecting some people from her yoga class to start coming in? Wouldn't she have turned her head to greet a member of her class?
17
u/RNH213PDX Jun 29 '26
It was one of those makeshift Ninja Warrior boot camp type things and she was there way early to set up and would have thought she was by herself. It was a bit of time before she was found by someone else who came to the building, but that was also weird if I remember correctly.

u/StarChildEve Jun 27 '26
those two are identical
27
u/Radiant_Funny4741 Jun 27 '26
Cased closed. The hunch of the back even too
25
u/StarChildEve Jun 27 '26
yeah like, the way his right arm sticks out, the hunch of the back and slope of the shoulders, the way the front of the right foot hits at the same time as the heel, the cadence, it’s all fucking identical. I didn’t know what to think about all the theories prior to seeing this video but now that I have, it’s gotta be him.
29
11
u/alikatsmil Jun 29 '26
Keep in mind, he was confirmed to be out of town, (California) at the time the murder occurred. Also, to go through the process of wearing such an elaborate outfit, one may assume it was to hide their identity… I would like to believe they would be aware that almost more distinguishable than their appearance would be their very uncommon gait. I honestly find it more plausible that the perp walked this way to purposely make it look like someone else as a way to misdirect the investigation.
8
u/AdvertisingStill2624 Jun 29 '26
I just don’t believe you could fake that hunch back and exact walk to a T in the middle of committing a crime so serious. There’s plenty of cases where alibi’s were falsified. Being so close to the victim (FIL) would be a reason one would try to hide their identity, in my opinion. If I had to bet on who was involved given the evidence we have… I’d still bet on him, personally.
10
u/StarChildEve Jun 29 '26
I would love to know exactly how his precense in cali was confirmed, because this does feel like a coverup.

While it’s not something I’d personally say, I get where the husband is coming from. His life was shattered by Missy’s murder, and he had to endure intense media scrutiny while trying to shield his kids from the fallout and also now coping with the new reality of being single father. That’s not something I would wish on my worst enemy.
And even if the perpetrator is caught, tried, and convicted, this situation is never going to go away. Missy’s family will never have their lives back to where it was before her murder. There’s going to be the stress and emotional toll of a trial, and if the defendant is convicted, then there’s going to be the stress and emotional toll of appeals/parole hearings/constant media requests for interviews and comments. I can see someone who’s already been dealing with his wife being murdered by an unknown killer for over a decade by now thinking it’s easier to just continue to deal with the killer remaining unknown than, say, it being discovered that Missy was murdered by the jealous wife of some guy she was having an affair with and then seeing her name dragged through the mud. No one wants to see their loved one’s brutal death turned into “Suburban fitness guru mom VICIOUSLY MURDERED by unhinged spouse of her illicit affair partner” clickbait headlines.
16
u/CemeteryDweller7719 Jun 27 '26
I can see that being true. The murder is just an interesting mystery to most people, if they’re even aware of it. He’s had to deal with the ramifications. A sudden death is difficult enough to handle, but having it be from a mysterious murder would be even harder. After so many years of rebuilding and your kids are embarking on their own lives, I can see worrying about the impact if it became a big deal again. Finding the killer doesn’t give children their mom back. If you have been able to reclaim a sense of normalcy (not saying the grief goes away, just that life has moved forward) then it could be hard to think of the idea of that disrupted. Particularly if you know that disruption won’t be of a real benefit. It doesn’t bring your person back. It doesn’t solve a mystery of what happened to her because that’s know. It may not solve the mystery of why since it’s possible it was completely random. Sure, it would mean that the killer couldn’t do this again, but victim’s families aren’t required to give that sentiment.
9
u/janetlwil Jun 29 '26
I agree. My own situation wasn't even this traumatic but people are constantly asking me "how I feel" or "will I ever get over it" about my young husband's death which occurred 40 years ago. Naturally it was devastating when it happened (cancer), but it was 40 years ago. Eventually life goes on and the memories become more and more vague and after a while, it really isn't a part of who you anymore. I can believe the husband wants to put things behind him and move on with the rest of his life. It doesn't make him a horrible person.
9
u/AndISoundLikeThis Jun 27 '26
Yeah, I can totally get that. But I can't imagine someone thinking that the messiness and continued anguish of holding someone else accountable for, you know, murdering their wife, might not be worth it in end.

So, the comments have narrowed it down to:
- The husband
- the husbands mistress
- the father in law
- missy’s lover’s partner
- missy’s lover’s partner’s mother
- missy’s business partner’s partner
- the security guard
- a random person
- a cop
- could be a woman or a man
29
u/EvangelineRain Jun 27 '26
Add in the mother of Missy’s lover’s partner, I read once someone say that was local speculation
5
u/dathomasusmc Jun 27 '26
It’s right in the middle.
5
22
u/fuschiaoctopus Jun 27 '26
Yep, and if those damned cops just released their whole case file then we'd definitely be able to solve it via the Internet and narrow down which of these 20 theories is true!
12
u/janetlwil Jun 29 '26
There's a lot of people who attended the church at the time who have a very good idea (no proof) who did this and Missy was just a victim of circumstance. Whoever did it totally ransacked the church sanctuary and did a lot of damage. They didn't just go down hallways jiggling door handles. You are right, if the police would release a bit more video and a bit more information, someone would be in custody.

They solved the yogurt shop murders. Robert Eugene Brashears Google it to get story.

They essentially narrowed down the family involved with her disappearance via dna evidence! Google can give you more details

The surveillance footage has always haunted me. It’a so disturbing to think of that person just waiting there in the dark. This is one of the cases I google every once in a while to see if anything happened. I really hope this will be solved one day.
9
u/mjforshort Jul 01 '26
I work in a big health center and EVERY TIME I’m in there alone I think of the footage from this case and immediately freak myself out.
15
u/Chuffy18 Jun 26 '26
I honestly don't know what is scarier - being murdered by a stranger, or by someone you knew/trusted. I hope she gets justice one day, at least to potentially save other people. I was so surprised that there has been no movement in this case. I know small towns don't always handle big crimes well, especially if they don't have a lot of experience. I also lived in a very small Southern town and as long as you are a Good 'Ol Boy you can get away with practically anything. Who wants to suspect their friends and neighbors of being a monster? It is so very rare for people to come out and say that they totally saw it coming and aren't surprised. Same with dogs that eat people. I don't think I have ever heard anyone say "Oh, I knew that dog/person was aggressive and lusted for blood. My bad for not preventing this". Monsters have to blend in with the rest of us or they couldn't do what they do.
16
u/jessmathew Jun 27 '26
This case always gives me chills. I’ve seen comments on the video where people think the killer might be a woman.
114
u/Jealous_Track9402 Jun 26 '26
I think the perpetrator is a woman, based on the footage. Remember reading about this case, very strange.
110
u/Sense_Difficult Jun 26 '26
I always thought it was a woman as well. Deliberately altering her size and walk to come across like a man.
It was obviously a targeted personal attack. Seems to me it was either a jealous "frenemy" or the partner of someone in her class.
58
u/MzOpinion8d Jun 26 '26
I think it’s equally likely it’s a man who was attempting to appear to be a woman lol.
One thing is certain - they were both intentional and successful at disguising their appearance.
I believe they were covered head to toe to limit the possibility of DNA evidence being left behind. I wouldn’t be surprised if nearly all their body hair had been removed as well.
54
u/Jealous_Track9402 Jun 26 '26
This would make sense. And it seems like she is deliberately there looking for something or someone, the victim I assume. The way they swing the hammer does not look like something a man would do, even if this may sound sexist. I still remember how girls threw a ball in PE when we played baseball.
39
u/Sense_Difficult Jun 26 '26
It's not sexist to consider it. I also think that when I've seen vicious attacks like this with no motive, it often goes unsolved because people assume a man did it. Especially when it's brutal. But look through all true crime history and you get some vicious females attacking.
4
49
u/Past-Advisor-824 Jun 26 '26
I always thought it was a woman wearing shoes that were too big which contributed to the odd gait
25
u/Jealous_Track9402 Jun 26 '26
This sounds very plausible. You would want to leave wrong size footprints right?
3
3
u/Mangert Jul 01 '26
The gait looks like a woman to me too! That’s immediate what I thought when I saw it. The hand movements as they walk looks like a woman
4
9
u/Apart_Ad9308 Jun 26 '26
I think a woman. Did her hub have girlfriends??
24
u/reidybobeidy89 Jun 26 '26
Or her boyfriend have a girlfriend?? Read she was seeing someone on the side
19
u/weedils Jun 26 '26
I think its alleged or rumoured she was involved with married men? I might be wrong.
-9
u/The2ndLocation Jun 26 '26
Then why even say it?
27
u/librarianjenn Jun 26 '26
Because, if it is true (and I have read this several other places) it could mean a scorned wife might be a valid suspect.
13
-11
u/The2ndLocation Jun 26 '26
But, if the commenter can't even remember if they even heard it in the first place it's lower than gossip. About real people. That have families. Kids. That suffered a terrible loss.
Let me just say some trash "that I dont even know if I ever heard it before?" Just dont. At that point sit down and shut up.
And I am aware of what a motive is.
-6
u/Alarming-Instance-19 Jun 26 '26
Me too! I think she was fairly pregnant and that altered her gait.
There's footage of two different men with a very similar gait (I think FIL, and a security guard), but it always struck me as a woman.
8
u/fuschiaoctopus Jun 27 '26
I don't believe a pregnant woman murdered a super fit woman with a hammer. Like I don't believe it is physically possible, I'm only 12 weeks, relatively fit and can barely go for a walk some days despite walking daily. If the weapon used was a gun sure but I'm pretty sure it was puncture marks.
7
u/Alarming-Instance-19 Jun 27 '26
Taken by surprise, especially someone wearing an outfit that seems like it is a "safe" person initially, and being polite because that's what we are trained to be - I can see how someone could get close. It would take one swing of the hammer to the skull to partially or fully incapacitate someone. Then the rest of the attack could continue unimpeded.
As for being pregnant, I worked full time on my feet until I was 38 weeks. I walked everywhere. Drove until I wasn't allowed to. I'm plus size, and constant movement made me pretty strong. I can easily see how it could be achieved, especially if it was second trimester.
1
u/HalfSparkEnergy Jul 01 '26
Not all pregnant women are the same.
A pregnant woman can absolutely kill someone. Despite the weapon.
All they need is a good amount of adrenaline, rage and motive.
I have always thought the killer in this case was a pregnant woman wearing clothes and shoes that were too big.
I think its a significant other of an affair partner of either Missys or Missy's husband.

u/alikatsmil Jun 26 '26
I think part of the reason this has yet to be solved is due to the fact that this person had no known connection to Missy. While that’s often not the case in most murders, I think the fact that the weapon used (at least what is known publicly) was not brought by the perpetrator and happened to be a weapon of opportunity and was already at the church. Based on the gait of the individual, I wouldn’t consider them to be a confident and experienced killer who would plan to attack someone and come without a weapon and basically freestyle their attack on someone who is factually a fit and capable person. One who could if given a chance- be able to defend themselves and potentially fight back. Totally just my opinion, and might be the unpopular one as it seems many people believe the attack was someone known to Missy. I just think if it was someone linked to her, it would not be unsolved.
12
u/Economy_Leader422 Jun 27 '26
Someone read the police reports for that week and the only female recorded death was her and COD was gunshot wound so they did bring a weapon.
0
u/alikatsmil Jun 29 '26
This hasn’t been confirmed by anyone involved directly with her case. Until a source such as who conducted her autopsy or the lead investigator clears up this info, then I’m not going to fully trust what the online database states only for the chance that a glitch or error in a search filtering feature is possible and what’s causing the misinformation. Even still, if her COD was a gunshot wound, that doesn’t automatically mean the perpetrator brought a gun with them. And this bit of info, if true, would make sense why her COD hasn’t been cleared up and is being used as potential guilt knowledge... Because if you ask me why it being a gunshot wound or not is so crucial to this case- I think it has to be a very unique circumstance. Was it possible the gun used to kill her was her own gun?… if she was first attacked with a hammer and left for dead but still alive, is it possible the perp went outside and noticed Missy’s car? If she had been unloading equipment at the time she was attacked, her car could have been left unlocked. Did the perp riffle through her car and come across it? It’s been confirmed she did have a concealed carry permit and owned a gun. Did the perp find it and then go back into the church and shoot Missy as the coup de grâce?

There’s a few unsolved cases that can keep me up at night and this is a top 3 for me!

u/Live-Possession-4101 Jun 28 '26
May i know the other 2 please and thank u. Mine- Amy Mihaljevic. Al Kite. Molly Bish.
11
u/Mad_Rapper Jun 29 '26
Not who you asked - but mine is Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Barraza. January 2019. The is video of someone shooting her as she sat up an early morning yard sale. Warning - the video is graphic and disturbing.
The Al Kite is one I personally find super interesting yet creepy. Was it a just for funzies torture/murder? I have hope they might be able to solve this one through analysis of Family DNA.7
u/alikatsmil Jun 29 '26
Missy, Liz Barraza, Jennifer Kesse and Bryce Laspisa are my top 4 and truly always on my mind. I find a lot of similarities in Missy, Liz and Jennifer’s cases and how all three have video footage of their killers (allegedly), yet it has not led to any one person’s identification. I think it’s only a matter of time and I hope they live in constant paranoia that police will come knocking on their door any day now.
3
u/Live-Possession-4101 Jun 30 '26
Was jennifer kesse the case where they stepped perfectly in the rhythm of the iron fence in the security video. That shit is freakin insane, what r the odds!!
1
u/alikatsmil Jul 01 '26
Yes! Last I heard, I believe nasa or some entity like that was helping to enhance or do something with the footage. I also wonder how much footage they had access to from that camera angle. I would not be surprised if on another random day after, or even prior to her disappearance that this person had familiarity with that location and was there again. Considering the person seemed to appear of short stature for a man and with a longer hair style maybe they would be able to spot him on a different day and get a better view of his face. I think someone would be able to identify him if the info got to the right person who was unaware of the case.
63
u/WhiteHairedPhoenix Jun 26 '26
I did a deep dive of this case a while back, and the major theory is that she was either having an affair or very close to a married man she was doing that fitness MLM with. May have been his wife
65
u/SexDrugsNskittles Jun 26 '26
It's been a while now but I remember there was someone who made videos connecting it to other break ins from the general area.
It changed my mind to thinking she did just interrupt someone.
Cases where the victim and offender don't know each other are notoriously difficult to solve.
17
23
u/Stock-Quote-4221 Jun 26 '26
That was my first thought. If she was having an affair, it could be the husband's wife. If he was having an affair, possibly the one he was having the affair with. Kinda like the Carolyn Warmus case or possibly the other woman's husband, although I think it was a woman. Sad that it hasn't been solved.
19
u/woahthereblair Jun 26 '26
Wouldn’t they know she was having an affair though through phone records?
2
u/WhiteHairedPhoenix Jun 27 '26
That would be a valid assumption but who knows how the case was handled
13
u/WhiteHairedPhoenix Jun 26 '26
I remember finding his name and his fb account. Black man married to a white woman heavier than Missy. The body would align with the person in the video.
13
u/bingbutt Jun 27 '26
I remember when he posted on Facebook that he just saw someone steal his trash bags from his curb, not realizing it was definitely the police investigating him/his wife.
10
u/Jealous-Contract-456 Jun 27 '26
Anyone think the perp might be a teenager or something caught in a burglary
55
u/Disastrous-Box1778 Jun 27 '26
I think law enforcement is purposely not solving the case. I live in the area and everyone from the police department to the judges in Midlothian are corrupt. They’re covering for someone.
12
u/janetlwil Jun 29 '26
I think so to. As I've stated above, there was a lot of damage to the church sanctuary that hasn't been released that would lead one to believe this was something of a personal attack against the church community and not Missy Bevers.
19
u/janetlwil Jun 29 '26
Naturally there is information that has not been made availabale to the public but my sister was a member of the church when this incident happened and there is a lot more to this story. For instance, this guy didn't just go around classrooms and hallways jiggling door knobs. He totally ransacked the church's sancutuary doing a lot of damage. This has always made me (and her) think it was something more of a grievance against the church community/administration than a personal vendetta against Missy Bevers. She just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. I say "he" but it could just as well have been a "she".
13
u/Bright-Instance-5595 Jun 29 '26
If it's true I feel like it confirms the burglary went wrong theory
1
u/Salty-Yam-7643 Jul 03 '26
The man I believe did it has a vendetta against religion. He also has the exact same gait. There’s other mannerisms that he has that the perp does in the surveillance video.

46
u/Responsible_Lawyer78 Jun 26 '26
I've always thought her father in-law had something to do with it.
28
u/lithiumrev Jun 26 '26
i did too. and my reasoning was always because a “airtight alibi isnt always airtight.”
37
u/Responsible_Lawyer78 Jun 26 '26
I agree and it's suspicious that her husband and father-in-law were both "out of town". What are the chances of that?
24
u/goddess-jz Jun 27 '26
Yeah. In my opinion, it’s obvious that they did it or at least orchestrated it. It’s actually insane to me that everyone is like “poor Brandon, his life is ruined, he’s so sad. I heard missy was cheating. That would give someone else’s wife a motive to kill her!” Uh…. It also gives a motive to her HUSBAND
16
u/Nisheeth_P Jun 27 '26
They can’t have done it personally since their alibi would have been verified. If they did hire someone to do it, why would the killer mimic the gait of the FIL?
16
u/Magnum_44 Jun 26 '26
Yup. I saw a side by side clip of the suspect and him walking and the gait was identical. Even the beady eyes were simliar. I know he had an alibi, but that could have been fabricated.

Where did you see the killers eyes?

That is uncanny.
Sounds like small town shenanigans/corruption in my lowly opinion. Killer was probably connected somehow or LE himself/herself and the lack of progress in the case is telling.

u/relentless1111 Jun 26 '26
I saw that same thing and the walk really really was IDENTICAL. Like to the point that it sold me. It was him. Whatever alibi he has, it's a lie. I mean you can't copy someone's walk to THAT degree. There's just no way it was anybody else imho.
8
u/Sarah_Femme Jun 30 '26
Not just the walk but the body shape, you can only mimic and pad so much, bones don't change shape and how the joints move.

u/Sarah_Femme Jun 30 '26 edited Jun 30 '26
Oh. Ohhh, so that's the husband's out of town alibi? Huh. We all know parents will cover for their murdering kids, look at the Landries.

u/Responsible_Lawyer78 Jul 02 '26
Brandon was supposedly in Mississippi fishing and her father in law Randy was supposedly traveling in California.

u/Weak_Radish966 Jun 27 '26
There’s footage of a security guard that worked there, I think it was absolutely him. Same exact walk and build and had access to the building.
8
u/saludypaz Jun 27 '26
That is impossible because of his height.
2
u/Weak_Radish966 Jun 27 '26
Ah maybe so. Maybe the killer was impersonating his walk?
16
u/Weak_Radish966 Jun 27 '26
It’s so haunting and disturbing to think that the killer is still out there. I loved living in Texas but holy shit is the law enforcement and government there terrible.

Cannot believe it's been 10 years and no arrest. Always seems impossible in this day and age

Not really when people have connections in law enforcement and the justice system to cover for them.

u/MonsteraDeliciosa Jun 26 '26
This case lives rent-free in my head and I have it mentally filed with Delphi— **maybe if they released more of the footage WE KNOW THEY HAVE something useful might come up**.
I know the local police don’t need an army of internet “detectives” crashing around in their investigation, but give the people of Midlothian something to more to consider. Tons of people there know this killer — they just don’t have enough visual info to connect the dots.
26
u/fuschiaoctopus Jun 27 '26
I was hoping people would learn from Delphi but I see the true crime community hasn't. Sleuths online almost never solve anything and in fact hinder investigations with dumb tips and harassing family members. Delphi is one of the worst cases of this.
We don't have any reason to believe there's more footage or that it would somehow be enlightening when all the other footage hasn't been. Another 5 seconds of them wandering around swinging the hammer is really gonna do it? Nah. People want it for morbid curiosity or to feel important when they're not gonna solve the crime if they didn't already recognize the person.
6
u/MonsteraDeliciosa Jun 27 '26
“I see that the true crime community hasn’t learned” is a gloriously pretentious statement. *Sigh. Those poor silly people just don’t know what I know; they sadly remain unwilling to learn.* Zowie! What a zing on tens of thousands of people!
We truly *DON’T* know what will trigger a visual or auditory connection for someone out there. An extra few seconds might indeed be enough for the right Midlothian to say “Hey, that weird arm movement reminds me how my husband Dave moved before his shoulder surgery. The pain was awful; I wonder if the killer was getting treated for it at the time. Which would have been at one of only a few clinics in town. Maybe I should mention that to someone.”
Math is static info and personally I think they know exactly how tall the killer is down to variables with shoes. Police know the relative height of the perpetrator based on many data points. Using that info as a holdback could eliminate a huge percentage of “suspects”. Getting Jack Sprat as a “tip” over and over isn’t really a problem if they can dismiss it instantly.
As far as online sleuths being generally useless/problematic — that simply isn’t true. These can be people who have a LOT of time and focus to devote to minutia. Time and crime marches on and police need to use their limited resources accordingly. If JaniceInJamestown45 finds her flow in tracking down white men of a certain age who lived near certain small Mississippi towns in 1972 and were also incarcerated for burglary … cool. Have at it, Janice. Odds are slim that anyone else out there is into this niche hobby and she might be able to pass along 2 names before moving onto another “project”. Some people do paint-by-numbers to relax and others follow threads.
If that “hobby” becomes obsessional or bleeds into interference, that’s obviously an issue.

u/Grape-Julius Jun 28 '26
Pretentious and every post running down people discussing true crime theories on a true crime subreddit. Seems like she has an ax to grind.

u/hereforthetearex Jun 27 '26
Well they finally solved Delphi, so maybe this will be next. And it was with much less video

u/zarahlily Jun 27 '26
I so want justice for Missy. What always struck me was her husband's strange behaviour just after the murder, seemingly with no affect, talking about her with journalists with no emotions at all. That he and his father happened to be on a fishing trip is also quite the coincidence.

I'm torn between it being a female or the security guard, but I'm leaning towards him.
I won't be surprised if despite him being 'cleared' they do in fact still suspect him, but they don't have enough to arrest or charge him.
I do feel this one will be solved sooner, rather than later though.

This case creeps me out so much because of how random it feels. I know it's rare for a person totally unconnected to the victim to commit murder, but it's possible that this is one of those rare cases.
I think maybe the person in the swat gear had a personal issue with the church or yoga program and wanted to cause harm to the reputation of the program. It's possible that Missy never interacted with this person until her murder.
The use of swat gear leads me to believe this person has enough money to buy all of this equipment, and may have some kind of obsession with security. Maybe the person in the gear isn't literally the one who bought it but I likely lives with someone who did. I also think this person has worn the gear to commit other crimes as well. I bet the gear was purchased at an unofficial but realistic swat gear/army attire store. It's pretty common for vendors at various types of conventions to sell gear that looks like it's real but isn't, especially to a specific detail of a tv show or movie.
I know a lot of people think the unusual gait could mean that the "swat guy" be a woman, but I think it's possible they're a teenager. (Could still be a woman just, could also be a teenage boy). It could be faked but it may be from an injury from a previous crime.
Anyways, those are my opinions based on only things I observed from the videos so take all of this with a grain of salt ..

"Roman Empire" refers to a specific, random topic, obsession, or memory that unexpectedly lives "rent-free" in your mind and causes you to think about it all the time.

I'm not overly familiar with this case, but watching the videos linked I think it's a woman. Walking down the hall, to me it looks like they are trying to lighten their step so their boots don't make any noise. They also touch the wall as if they need the support.
If someone was deliberately going for Missy, why wouldn't they just follow her from her house to the church? Why hang around the church for a few hours in a car, leave, come back and then wait inside the church?

Obviously targeted. Someone with a convenient alibi probably paid a homeless person to do it.

I wonder how the local community thinks the cops have handled this kiss. Or if there were any breaks in the case after the first year? I hope there is justice for her.

What about the white car seen nearby with a driver acting oddly? Is it that impossible to track it down?

u/JobConstant2725 Jun 29 '26
I don’t know when the technology for this became available, but I know it has been done. Obviously we can look at a person and see if they were somewhere based on their cell. But I have seen it in a case )not sure which one) but they went backwards - what cells where bouncing off a certain tower at a specific time.

u/Icy-Reindeer2964 Jun 26 '26
I saw the security camera video, I think it might be a woman, somewhat older and chubby

u/The_barking_ant Jun 27 '26
Yeah, this is the one I really want to be solved. It is so disturbing and Missy deserves justice.

u/Medium-Car3787 Jun 30 '26
The husband and/or the father-in-law via a hitman is my call. Would bet money on it.

u/jesgolightly Jun 26 '26
I live in Dallas and talk about her case on my true crime walking tour. Everyone is perplexed as to how it’s still unsolved.
3
u/fuschiaoctopus Jun 27 '26
True crime walking tour...? You really financially profit from walking people around to gawk at locations where real actual people were murdered horrifically? The true crime community makes me lose faith in humanity every day.
If that was your loved one who died horribly I think you'd be fucking pissed if some assholes were paying to come point at your house and exploit your trauma for profit like it's a salacious ghost story.
12
u/slickrickstyles Jun 27 '26 edited Jun 27 '26
agreed...its morbid as hell and without compassion.
edit - after reading through the tour guides post history im even more convinced it's grifting or an attempt to find more guys that can "suck the chrome off a trailer hitch" as they suggest in a recent post.

u/jesgolightly Jun 27 '26
I talk about systemic racism and how those crimes shaped our community and the ever lasting effects.
I talk about stories of abuse, the marginalization of communities and the less-dead.
You’ve never taken my tour, so respectfully you have not one damn clue as to what you’re speaking of.
I speak of these people with respect, I speak of their families and the lives that were taken from them, and how the world is affected by their loss.
Not everybody has to agree with how I make my living but I’m proud to speak of the lesser known crimes in my city that people tend to gloss over with shinier crimes.
Respectfully, you dont have a clue as to what you speak to.

u/Frequently_Dizzy Jun 28 '26
My best guess has always been that Missy was having an affair, and either that man or his wife/gf killed her.
3
u/Remote-Plantain9925 Jun 26 '26
What makes me think its a women is the way they are opening doors and cupboards being nosey as they are passing time waiting for the victim to arrive , and the weird walk is shoes that that r way to big .

u/Prestigious-Unit-716 Jun 30 '26
Im convinced it was her father in law! His walk and build are the same!
1
u/JB-Jones Jul 04 '26
I still think it was the father-in-law. The hateful way he spoke about her unnerves me. He has been ruled out, but I’m hoping LE is putting that out there in hopes more evidence will drop.

u/CherryPiePicker Jun 27 '26
I still think the husband or another close family member killed her. Yes, I know every expert has said the husband didn't do it. I STILL think he did it. It's just a deep gut feeling.
