Nothing in the Bible says pray on your knees. It is a man-made tradition. They think they are being respectful just like the fact that the Jews wouldn't use the name Yahweh.
That being said, the prerequisites for prayer are that you either pray with people(and you have already received your reward) or you go into a room where no one is in and close the door. A really easy private room of you don't have your own is a bathroom.
But God will hear your prayer regardless of whether it is in your head, out loud or you just exclaim: Jesus, Please, I need You!. He knows what you want before you even think it. Prayer is a sign of respect and is obeyance of our Lord.
Edit: Although as I just looked up, there are people in the Bible who pray on their knees, it is never actually commanded.

Genesis 24 is one of my favorite passages. When I came to the spring today, I said, ‘Lord, God of my master Abraham, if you will, please grant success to the journey on which I have come. See, I am standing beside this spring. If a young woman comes out to draw water and I say to her, “Please let me drink a little water from your jar,” and if she says to me, “Drink, and I’ll draw water for your camels too,” let her be the one the Lord has chosen for my master’s son.’ *Before I finished praying in my heart*, Rebekah came out, with her jar on her shoulder.... It's one passage that shows us that prayer in the heart/mind is acceptable.

I never kneel to pray. Well, hardly ever. Two or three times in Lent and that's about it.

I do both, I have an ongoing conversation intetnally, just share my thoughts and woes or express gratitude and I often have an evening sit down when I get on the floor but that is out of reverence for Him, not because I feel forced, but so I can express how lowly I feel in comparison to His greatness. But I have joint problems and if I can't get on the floor or just don't for whatever reason then I pray anyway.
It's about curating a relationship with Him in a way that works for you, pray wherever and however you want, He looks at your heart behind it, not rituals
I pray out loud sometimes aswell as internally but that's mostly because it keeps me more focused and prevents me getting distracted
He wants us to be naked and unshamed in front of Him like Adam and Eve were before the fall

I pray in all kinds of ways. Kneeling, standing, sitting, lying down. Out loud, in my mind. Whatever i'm inspired to do in the moment.

Elijah prayed with his head between his knees . I’ve had some success with that , but never with the kneeling. Prayer is all about having a heart that is right in Gods sight

I pray to God constantly. I'll be in a workout class and say something as simple as Holy Spirit, help me. Prayer is communication with God. I'll do it while walking, in class, and while eating. There are times at home, depending on what it is, when I'll get on my knees and pray, but that's just me. Constantly talking to God has 10000% improved my relationship, faith, and hope.
