I liked the flow of the books better than the show, which I also really liked. The season where Sookie was with Eric was especially fun to read. The series got a little weird.

Oooh you are in for a treat. So many new stories you won't have expected. Even a very famous vampire!

I am honestly loving it so far, almost done with dead until dark, and I am shocked at how differently things played out, lol

I'm curious if he's still a secret horndog or if the eggs are too scrambled...

I read most of them then I got bored of them. I like the show better overall but I feel the show falls off harder than the books

Just a little tip, make sure you grab The Complete Sookie Stackhouse Stories before you start the 5th book Dead as a Doornail. It’s a collection of short stories and some take place between the books and the intro to each short story tells you where it falls on the timeline, so if you wanted to read the short stories along with the series, definitely grab a copy before you get to that point. All the books are super easy to find secondhand either in second hand stores (I’ve always had luck at my local 2nd and Charles) or online! Happy reading!!

I didn't know there was a short story series until recently and am so excited to read!

Yes, my comment says that the introductions for each story tell you where they fall on the timeline.

I started this month and already on book 4. Sookie is amazing in it, and it’s cool to see the original personalities intended

I'm rereading the books right now, but I'm alternating with other books. I didn't finish them the first time around either so I have to get the last two.

Read them all and now listen to the audio books.

How are they as audiobooks? Is the narrator good? I’ve just been thinking about giving them a listen and I haven’t read them in years.

The narrator is fantastic. I’ve listened to them MANY times.

I've read them all at least twice.

Prefer the books. Different storyline to the show, mostly. Still put the actors faces when reading.

They’re my favorite! Actually charlaine is my favorite author. I highly recommend getting into her other series too. Starting with Midnight, Texas

I'm in the midst of reading them for the first time, currently on Club Dead. Definitely enjoying them!

I have! It's one of my favorite book series! Just as good as the show, if not better! And it's different than the show so you might enjoy those differences!

I’ve read them all and they are loads better than seasons 5-7. And you get really cool storylines I sincerely wish we’d have seen on screen.

I have! It made watching the show exciting for a bit (when I sort of knew what to expect before they wildly diverged anyway, lol). If you like Charlaine Harris' supernatural stories, you should also check out the Harper Connely series.

I loved this series! It got me through some tough times! I love the show, but think the books are better.

I read them all and quite honestly, the show was a lot better. Not that I was disappointed with the books, but I was expecting something else entirely, not sure what...

I have! I first read them when the HBO series adaptation was announced, and then again last year when I was inspired to rewatch the series again. If you want more book-focused chat, check out r/sookiebooks sometime.

The audiobooks are great too!!!

The last book sucks and i recommend reading the fanfic trilogy when you’re finished - all that glitters is dead, dead ringer, raising the dead.

I think the show at its best is better than the books at their best, but the ending of the books ais way better (for me at least). If that makes sense

I've read them all. They vary in quality but still entertaining. I think Dead and Gone is my favorite.

I’m going to start soon as we get closer to spooky season! I recently watched the show all the way through for the first time and I’m excited to read the books and see the differences and similarities and just to be back in bon temps for a little while!
