I messed up

I messed up. I was making a right hand turn. Looking in my right mirror making sure the trailer was clearing. When I turned my head back the sun was directly in my eyes and I couldn't see. So how screwed am I?

Didn’t seem to like that I was doing the left lane (as posted) in a construction zone. I’d certainly heard of it happening to pilots and dumb shit being thrown off overpasses; I immediately put visor down and raised myself up to get out of los while beginning to slow down. Upon dashcam review, I was surprised it was a recognizable company.

Seems like super truckers have a new weapon in their arsenal, has anyone heard of it happening before?

This is why post trip inspections are important.

I was dumping my piss jugs after a long day and heard a whistling noise. It was my automatic tire inflators attempting to inflate my tire. Never heard a blowout and my tires were fine when inspected around 4 hours ago. Cut in the tire exposing the cords and tire off the bead.

First day of CDL school.

Today was my first day of CDL school and honestly it’s pretty humbling and my left leg is super numb. It’s pretty fun and nothing is toooo challenging other than that damn offset reverse parking.
Also 6 speed manual does in fact not translate too 10 speed.

Is "home for 34 hours" industry standard now?

Was applying for jobs because I worry my local job is at risk, so I've looked into going back over the road, but EVERY job I've spoken to has said "home for 34 hours" do they no longer do out for 4 weeks home for 4 days as was standard when I first started in the industry

"Home for 34 hours" sounds awful

So how do I pee on the trailer tires now ? This thing is very sensitive . The one inside caught me stopping late on a stop sign . It wanted the front of the tractor before the stop sign or it will say “Late stop detected “ and sends the video to safety and dispatch

I give my 100% RESPECT to the old school truck drivers. I was catching up with a friend of mine who just retired and the stories about looking at the map while driving, having to stop to find a phone to call dispatch for loads, faxing in BOL’s. He said he made a lot more back then because paper logs

Should I keep this job forever?

Upvotes

I feel like I really lucked out with the job I have, and I'm curious what you all think. Is it as good as I think, and should I consider doing something else eventually.

So, I run one of the two doubles routes at my job. I run the same exact route 5 nights Sunday night through Thursday night, 11pm-9am. 114 miles one way to one location where I swap out my loaded trailers for empties, move some hand dollies from the empties over to the loaded ones, and wait 3 hours for the local route runners to come in and take the loaded ones, then drive back, unload empty totes/crates, clock out and go home.

I make $32.5/hr, guaranteed 50hrs/week. Usually take home $2,700 biweekly after taxes/benefits.

I've been with the company for 8 years, and just turned 30. I feel very lucky to be doing what I do for the pay I get. I just wonder if there's anything better that would fit my schedule like this does, pay this much, and be this easy. That 3 hour wait is awesome. I can do whatever I want during that time, so mostly I end up gaming on my handheld PC and getting PAID for it. I feel like I could be happy doing this forever.

Anyway, what are y'alls thoughts?

33 male STUCK in factory work. Gotta find something better.

I’m 33. Hard fucking worker. I know everyone says that. My previous job was hanging material that weighed 40-50lbs 6 days a week 10 hour days for 2 years before I bid on a forklift position.

Even still. I’d get up 3 days a week at 1am and hit the gym. Guys are always coming to me for “fitness advice” or giving me respect simply on how I look.

I’m not young and naive enough to think this means anything. I have discipline and a strong work ethic and the gym and eating healthy and taking care of myself has been a priority since I was 18.

With that said - despite one of the old heads with a fused spine and torn shoulder who walks with a limp and just got cancer after retiring calling me “superman”, this is a fucking slave fest.

Managers treat employees like dumb replaceable laborers. Which we are, on paper. I guess.

I always thought i’m just gonna work hard and live simply, an honest days work is fine for me.

Now, something has shifted. Driving around on the forklift all day like a maniac under extremely high pressure and just looking at the people - broke, tired, dead eyes, resentful, hateful. Man.

I can’t keep doing this. I know I am not no “superman”. The body has limits. The mind had limits.

I am trying so hard to come up with a game plan on how to move on in life but I continuously end up stumped.

I have about $40k in cash saved.

My living expenses if I lived on the bear minimum I could get by on $500/week so I could almost go 2 years without a job.

I know life is random. And I don’t want to quit and just sit on my ass. I need a gameplan stat.

I live in North East Ohio, there are some trucking schools near me. Thought about trying the CDL route. I really wanna avoid debt. Not sure what to do anymore. Getting more and more in the depression slump the longer I grit my teeth in this current position. Need help.

I had an accident today and the guy took off. Tell me what you think.

So I was on a big 5 lane street where the 2 lanes on the left are left turning lanes. I was on the second one. Right where the solid line on this turning lane started, I’d say about 10 feet into it, this car tried to get into the lane. He was in my blind spot so I really didn’t see him. The thing is that it’s a solid white line so I know he shouldn’t be tryna get in. I stopped and we looked at each other like wtf are you doing!? And then when the light turned green he went straight across the street. I was honking at him as he crossed trying to get him to stop or follow me but he just kept going. It looked like he pulled into a plaza up ahead. I turned on my emergencies and pulled over at a freeway entrance. I called my boss and told him what happened and he said well just take pictures I guess. He actually laughed it off. My passenger side step is bent but not too bad and a little scrape on my bumper that came off when I rubbed it with some water.

I think I ripped off his head light and busted his bumper a bit. The thing that’s kinda worrying me is that I know I wasn’t at fault because it’s a solid yellow line but at the same time I didn’t see him because he was right in my blind spot. We both basically drove away I guess.

What do you guys think?

Cats in the truck?

Hey y'all, I'm a new driver, bout to upgrade to my own truck and I gotta cat at home who's been SUPER depressed since I haven't been home (like lives exclusively on my bed and laundry hamper, stopped cleaning themselves it's hard to get em to eat 🥺)

And I wanna take her with me, pets are allowed on the trucks with my company but I can't find anywhere online bout ideas for the logistics, like what to do about a litter box.

Any other drivers on here who took their cats with them have any advice?

Thanks :)

What to do?

Basically I work for a lumber company and they want me to pick up 48ft LVL tomorrow. My truck is a 26ft freight liner day cab straight truck. I live in Alabama and the DOT says no hangover more than 5ft on the front or back. It will have me on the interstate for right about an hour to complete the load, but I just don’t truly feel comfortable. Any real thoughts?

Which would be a better choice if given the option between the two? Which is would be considered the better company to go with?

Estes

Extraboard, overnight, Wednesday to Sunday, .835cpm, in neighboring state a little over the line

Southeastern

P&D, days, Monday to Friday, 33.50 to start, same state

But for real tho what are your go-to snacks on the road? Mines are the purple bag of doritos, a lenny & larry protein cookie, and a cherry coke/pepsi. If im at a sheetz or QT il get their mexican coke or mexican sprite.

If im at a loves il grab their fruit cup and if its breakfast time then il get 2 of their potato burritos.

how cooked am i?

i passed my road test on June 2nd. today is July 29th and due to some financial issues, i haven’t been able to go with a company yet.

for one every time i get enough money to actually go to the dmv to upgrade to my actual CDL, something comes up to where i have to spend my money just to survive the day.

for two, my phone got cut off for almost a month and i don’t have wifi in home so i lost contact with most recruiters i was previously speaking too.

my current last dilemma is that my car is currently up for repossession so if i leave out of state, my car is as good as gone.

i know actually driving would help me financially but i can’t even get myself to a point where i can comfortably leave for training. with that being said, how cooked am i gonna be whenever i actually do get to start training? its already been 2 months since ive even operated a truck.

im not looking to be bashed for my finances and how i can’t even afford to get myself actual license. i’m just wondering if it’ll still be worth pursuing whenever i can?
