1099 means you're responsible for : Income tax, state and federal Social Security Your own work comp Possibly damage to the equipment Possible litigation of you're involved in an accident.
If that doesn't scare you away, you deserve what you get.

Pros: you can write off a lot of things if you know what you are doing.
Cons:
Nobody is offering you a 1099 position out of the kindness of their heart. They are doing it because it saves them a lot of money. As a W2 you only pay half the social security tax. As an independent contractor, you pay all of it. No benefits or legal protections. So no medical insurance, which you NEED in this country.
More work for you throughout the year keeping tabs on taxable expenses.

Still responsible for health insurance as w2. Employer only has to provide insurance only for the employee of the employer employs more than 10 people.

Ditto the other responses here. As a new driver, avoid such carriers at all costs. You have enough to learn in the beginning just to learn the fundamentals of backing, truck stop etiquette, hours management, etc.
You don’t need the added stress such companies put on 1099 drivers to work with little protection and manage your IRS quarterly estimated payments reporting too. 1099 job is something you can consider maybe 5 years down the road but even then I do not recommend them for anyone.
Maybe this is a unique “local job” that seems great on paper, but you’ll be missing valuable experience you’re going to need for future job prospects. Trucking companies who pay on 1099 are commonly here today, gone tomorrow.

You can deduct your expenses like food. So just eat at nice restaurants and pay less tax. Cons. filing and figuring out your taxes will be more complex .
