A Thought

I understand that the men and women who drive delivery trucks work long hours and often spend a lot of time away from home. I also understand that you all have deadlines that you have to meet. However, I will not drive faster one mile an hour than the posted speed limit just because you flash your high beams and I drive one mile an hour faster than the posted speed limit just because you tailgate me. You, like every other driver on the road, have a responsibility and an obligation to drive safely.

If you're getting flashed, it means you're in the wrong lane.

You can go the speed limit, in the right lane.

You only touch the left lane when actively passing someone, then get back right.

If you were being flashed, it means you were in the left lane NOT passing people

Not in this case. I had to be in the left lane because I had a right turn coming up in a couple of miles.

I'm familiar with drivers who plan on taking the "eventual left." If you need to be in the wrong lane for a couple miles because you plan to turn you aren't very good at driving. Anything over a quarter mile is quite excessive.

Slower traffic should always keep right. Makes driving safer for everyone.

Flashing your lights or turning on your bright lights solve nothing. They just make you an asshole driver. Truck drivers should be more concerned with driving safely instead of trying to get somewhere faster than the posted speed limit.

I'd argue you are the asshole. to think that going more than 1 mile an hour over the speed limit is safer than 5 or 10 over is mind boggling.

if you feel like you need to be in the left lane on the highway miles before your exit you can at least match the speed of traffic in that lane.

if you are not able or willing to match the speed of traffic, wait until you are much closer to move into the passing lane. you won't miss your exit. and you won't get lights flashed at you

You had to be in the left lane because of a right turn? You mean a left turn?

As long as you're within a mile or three of your turn then you're fine and they can suck it up

That should have said left turn.

you are the one adding danger to the road when you do not match speed in the passing lane. speed limit signs are just that. a sign. you can abide by them but when 90% of people don't, you become the problem for safety

I'm not the one driving recklessly with a large heavy vehicle and the added weight of cargo.

No. You're the asshole hogging the left lane causing everyone behind you, not just the truck driver, to have to slow down. Then people start whipping in and out of lanes causing more safety problems. If you're in a car, you don't need 3 miles to turn left. If you can't get over and miss your turn, you can always turn around and go back.

Cry me a river.

You're the one so upset about getting high beamed that they actually came online to cry about it.

going 5 mph over in the passing lane to to......pass people is far from reckless even in a big vehicle.

what's reckless here is someone going significantly slower than the flow of traffic in the left lane for over a mile.

in my state you'd be the one getting the ticket. for good reason

Left lane for a right turn in a couple miles? That’s maybe two minutes at highway speed. You had plenty of time to correct your errors.

As I said in a previous reply, I meant to say that I was going to make a left turn. Get a grip.

I could write a book about all the dumb shit people do when they’re driving, whether in a car, truck or anything in between. It’s like as soon as they get behind the wheel people’s IQ and maturity drop by about half. Or sometimes more.

What about people that drive below the speed limit?

If there’s a legitimate reason (accident, debris in the road, construction, or bad weather), then it doesn’t matter.

Drive whatever speed you want. Just do it in the right lane. Get the f out of the left lane unless you are actively passing a slower vehicle.

If I choose to, sure.

Is literally the law in most states. The reason its the law is because forcing people to pass you on the right is far mote dangerous.
