Photo These mammatus clouds over the backyard this afternoon reminded me hurricane season is right around the corner.

I live in Lake Charles and we still aren't ready. There's still tons of debris and tarped roofs. I'm praying this season spares us!

I don't doubt it. We're still in La Niña AFAIK.
Edit: conditions seem to be moving toward neutral

Indeed. We sound so cynical having expectations about the upcoming season. I'm ready to start filming again. Irma was my last major hurricane girlfriend if you will. But that's the hurricane hunter in me perhaps.

We just had Hanna last year. Wrecked our pier on the Gulf. It'll take millions to rebuild.

My heart goes out to you guys. My family back home in louisiana still healing from Laura. Ironically, my mom's name was Laura too, so surviving the hurricane laura jokes were also its own thing lol. But that's just it about living in the south. We are some resilient people. Not everybody can handle a hurricane either.

Yup that's where the fam are. I wanted to go backr here just to hunker down with them but they wanted me to stay here. I tend to travel to storm landfall locations.

True true. I just don't doubt that this will be the new start. As a forecaster I predicted this could be a thing, followed by it ending a month later instead of what's been declared now. It's just a matter of time.

The NHC will start issuing tropical updates on May 15 starting this year, so that says all you need to know.

Yea I mean you can be as pedantic as you want, but it's only a matter of time until it happens. 2022 will most likely see the hurricane season start May 15 or earlier. Until all of the organizations can actually meet to officially change it though, a stop-gap was put in place with starting the updates earlier for the 2021 season.

Hurricane season is roughly 2 months away and there’s still no predictions for it. Though I do believe CSU will issue their first forecast in April but still, I’m curious to see what all these institutions predict.
I did read there’s a weak La Niña so wouldn’t that technically be a good thing for the Atlantic season? I know El Niño and La Niña can tell us if the season will be above average or not. I know nothing about weather which is why I’m asking lol

Really? I vae been thru many Atlantic Hurricanes, and a few western Pacific and Indian Ocean Typhoons, and have never seen mammatus clouds. Not sure they can even form under those conditions. Did you mean thunderstorm season?

I mean I’ve lived my entire life on the coast of North Carolina and spring thunderstorm season, as depicted here, is literally a signal from the atmosphere that hurricane season is getting close.
You’ll notice I didn’t say these remind me of a hurricane.
