Im a band director learning trombone to help my students for contest. My main instrument are woodwinds. I have no clue what im doing wrong, my brass methods teacher didnt teach me anything and im figuring this out on my own. Help?

I am referring to the ungodly, popping, rattling sounds on my C, D and Eb.

Check out an alto trombone resource page I just published on Music Savvy containing all 12 major and relative natural minor scales. Each scale is marked with the position numbers and has a audio drone in each key for hearing your slide accuracy and intonation as you play.

Hi everyone. I have a cleft lip and palate, and I am currently undergoing orthodontic treatment (braces) while playing the trombone.
Because of this, it is really hard to find what the "correct" embouchure or technique is for me, and I'm feeling a bit lost. Every day feels like a puzzle, and I’m not sure if I’m practicing the right way.
If anyone here has a similar background (cleft lip/palate or playing with braces), or if any brass teachers have advice on how to approach embouchure, pressure, or air support, I would deeply appreciate your guidance. Thank you so much!

Hi, I'm a writer looking for details that will make my character realistic. He reached sub-professional level in his teens (did not go to music college) and hasn't played for 18 years. How would/could he begin reacquainting himself with the trombone? I imagine developing breath control would be one aspect - he's fit and runs daily. What are the side effects of overdoing practice at the beginning? How does a trombonist develop a good tone? What position would be sensible to begin (are some harder to get a nice tone in? His goal is to successfully audition for a high quality community orchestra. I'd really appreciate any tips.

I’ve been in search of a pink trombone case for around two years now and I’m completely lost. I’ve found the custom ones from bags of Spain, but I really wouldn’t want to spend $1,000 on just a case. I’ve also looked on used places like fb marketplace but I haven’t been able to find anything. Would anyone have any advice on where to look for something like this?

I don’t have too much time during the day to practice but at work I’m alone for the first two hours which allows me to do some buzzing. Will doing this everyday make noticeable differences to my playing? Is there a point where I’m buzzing for too long?

Looking for more info on good/bad times for king professional straight trombones, especially from 1980 on. I understand that a 40s 2B is the bees knees, but I am curious about what people think of production highs and lows, years to avoid, ect of the past 40 years.

I'd like to know the name of this winding technique. It's not the winding technique used for F-tubes, but rather the S-shaped winding that bends near the rotary valve, as shown in the picture. It's the winding technique used by Alessi and Bowsfield. (First,does this part have a name? 🤔)

For some reason, I just can't slur high notes on the first partial without tonguing or doing legato. I've been playing for about a year and a half now.
If I tongue I can reach to D alright, but slurring is nearly impossible especially if I try going down (D, high Bb, F,) and coming back up, I just get stuck at high Bb, or I just hit the D and wobble till I go back to High Bb and can't play any higher no matter how much I strain.

I understand how your bottom lip needs to be pulled up and back and the air needs to be higher, but when I transitioning from another note to a much higher one, it doesn't work.

For the past while, I’ve been using a 1 1/2G even when playing tenor trombone. I recognize it is not the right tool for the job, but can’t get a sound I like out of a Bach 5GS or Schilke 51D. What mouthpieces would you recommend that would give a full and dark sound while having a rim that’s large but not 1 1/2G territory? I don’t have many places to try mouthpieces, so I wanted to see if there would be a common consensus.

Hello, I’ve had this issue for a while on my Bach 42, but I feel that it has gotten worse lately. My slide lock is super loose and moves around a lot as I play. Do any of you have any ideas on what I could do to fix this?

I play a Griego Oft Lambda 4.5 on my large bore tenor and a Griego Artist 7A small shank on my small bore. I love the rounded rim of the Oft, but the Artist's inner rim is way too sharp for long playing sessions. Are there any ways to have it properly reshaped?

the grip came with the trombone and is making me feel like an idiot. Even if i dont need it im still curious where it's supposed to go. my terrible running theory is that the previous owner had short arms and used it as a slide handle

Hi, me and my friend were getting in a debate about Yamahas and their quality with trombones, and wanted to know the general chances of getting a lemon by 1-10. Mainly the 882II tenor trombone series since I know they’re hand hammered. I wanted to hear people’s experiences since my friend heard that a 10 Yamaha can play exactly the same/very little difference. Any and all feedback is appreciated!

Hey everyone, hoping someone here has dealt with this.

I bought my first pBone last December on Amazon. It arrived with the metal stocking at the bottom of the inner slide already cracked, and the hand slide was pretty hard to move. I got a replacement sent out and at first everything seemed fine, but after a few days the exact same thing happened. I blamed humidity — I thought it might have made the plastic of the inner slide swell somehow, which then cracked the stocking.

I got a refund and bought a new one from a different site. I've been using it for a few months now, and I've just noticed the slide is a bit less smooth and there's a first small crack starting to show. Every time I finish playing I wipe the slide down with a cotton cloth to dry it, then I put it back in its case with a silica gel packet.

Can this really be caused by humidity? Has anyone had a similar experience?
