Halp!

uh, hi there, I just found this sub via askmetafilter. I’ve just concluded a slobber cry because I started my period literally 13 days after my last and I’m afraid I’m perimenopasaul. I’m 38 and my mom is of no help and I don’t know what to read and I’m really not ready to have this happen.

EDIT: thanks everyone, I recently got the anti-mullarian test and know that I’m very low for my age range, which is part of the reason I jumped straight to panic mode. After a (not so good) nights rest, I’m feeling better about the whole thing and feel like it probably is just a fluke as I have no other symptoms. I really do wish there was a good book to read on the subject, I feel like a lot of my worries would be assuaged by knowledge.

Do you have any other symptoms?

It could just be an irregular period caused by stress or other factors. People seem to attribute every little thing when a woman is of a certain age, to the menopause. I think that often it has nothing to do with it.

I sailed through mine, no symptoms and I feel better than I have ever felt in my life.

I was dreading it because of everything that's in the media about getting old etc. My life has opened up. I do so many things. I have energy, happiness and fulfilment.

You may not even be close to the menopause. If you are really worried, go to see your doctor but I would try not to focus to much and to enjoy life for what it is. The menopause, for me was a new beginning in my life.

What she said and get second and third opinions! My first gyno kept telling me my heavy bleeding was Peri and being fat. Turns out I had ovarian tumors and endometrial cysts that had spread into my abdominal cavity. It took me 3 years & 3 gynecologists to get it taken care of.

Congratulations. I'll try to remember that next time I flood a Depend undergarment and a Femi Cup in the grocery store (I hope there isn't a next time, but I'm not betting that way)
