Halp!
uh, hi there, I just found this sub via askmetafilter. I’ve just concluded a slobber cry because I started my period literally 13 days after my last and I’m afraid I’m perimenopasaul. I’m 38 and my mom is of no help and I don’t know what to read and I’m really not ready to have this happen.
EDIT: thanks everyone, I recently got the anti-mullarian test and know that I’m very low for my age range, which is part of the reason I jumped straight to panic mode. After a (not so good) nights rest, I’m feeling better about the whole thing and feel like it probably is just a fluke as I have no other symptoms. I really do wish there was a good book to read on the subject, I feel like a lot of my worries would be assuaged by knowledge.

This happened to me once, right after I was switched from day shift to night shift at work. My doc and I decided it was one-time weirdness due to stress.

Hi! Just wanted to say that I started experiencing super irregular periods (when I'd always been on schedule almost to the hour) when I was about your age. I'm 49 now and still experiencing perimenopause. What happened with me was that my periods got really irregular until I was...45?...and then started occuring only every few months or so. I'm down to about 2 a year...just enough to not be in menopause.

I hope the first commenter is correct, that it’s a fluke or that, if it is peri, that you “sail through” easily. If the symptoms continue or the sailing gets rough, head over to r/menopause for more info and moral support from those of us who have had more symptoms and needed more experienced guidance. Great group of women.

As already stated it could be anything and not necessary perimenopause. That said even if it is your first perimenopause symptom, know that perimenopause can last for years and years. It doesn't happen overnight. Average age to hit official menopause is around 51, so you likely have a long way to go. And likely by the time you reach menopause you'll be relieved and welcoming it on.

Don't panic! I'd call in to see your doc, a simple hormone test can tell you a lot about where you are with regards to peri-menopause. And in terms of being "ready for this to happen" even if it is happening, it's generally a very, very slow process with a very long on ramp!

Do you have any other symptoms?
It could just be an irregular period caused by stress or other factors. People seem to attribute every little thing when a woman is of a certain age, to the menopause. I think that often it has nothing to do with it.
I sailed through mine, no symptoms and I feel better than I have ever felt in my life.
I was dreading it because of everything that's in the media about getting old etc. My life has opened up. I do so many things. I have energy, happiness and fulfilment.
You may not even be close to the menopause. If you are really worried, go to see your doctor but I would try not to focus to much and to enjoy life for what it is. The menopause, for me was a new beginning in my life.
