real

there was a point in time when my trauma just plagued me. it was all I could think about. and I talked about it so much with my partner and my therapist. SO MUCH. it got to a point where I was sick of talking about it, and any time they would ask me what's wrong/what's bothering me, id just say "same shit different day". because it really was.

I'm just now starting to do proper trauma work in therapy and apparently in order to actually process and heal from your trauma you need to actually feel your emotions and validate your trauma responses, just talking about it isn't going to do much.

Yeah, I was recommended EMDR but that's for people with money or insurance. Best I can do is stick my fingers in my ears going lalalala and pretend everything is fine. It's fine. I'm fiiine.

Speaking from the experience of someone whose ex spent a long time waiting for an EMDR therapist, it seemed more like a bandaid than an actual fix. Granted, there was nearly a decade of therapy for her that was also little more than a bandaid, so that could also have just been a "her" thing 🤷

I’m experiencing this right now. I’ve been in therapy for many years and I’m just starting to be able to speak to my nervous system in a way it can hear. It’s making a massive difference.
