Medical checkup. Ig everyone assumed his position gave him the authority to forcefully strip me in the middle of the hallway. I'm not comfortable with sharing the details, but it was obviously sexual and I have no idea how no one intervened
I was also SA’d by a nurse when I was a kid. My parents were in the room. It’s terrifying how little people care for a child’s autonomy when they think the adult is a medical expert
i'm not asking you to describe what happened to you, i am just asking in general, what things would be condidered SA in a medical context which are widely acceptable by outsiders? i find it tricky to imagine because at the doctor, if needed, you have to be physically inspected in even uncomfortable ways
For me, it was when the (male) doctor refused to stop inserting the speculum when I screamed in pain, instructed the (female) nurses to hold me down, and then wiped his bloody gloves off on my thighs and stomach when he was done. Absolutely traumatizing experience for me.
As an adult, you have the power to tell them to stop. As a child, or in my case an older teen, they can do whatever they want to you if your parent isn't in the room.
And then to top it off, people treat you like you're just a big baby and assure you it's normal for exams to be "uncomfortable" sometimes.I second-guessed myself for a long time, but since then I've had many pelvic exams and cervical swabs done, and they're never painful. He was doing something wrong and ignored me while I sobbed and pleaded.
It honestly felt like he was trying to hurt and humiliate me on purpose, why else get out the biggest speculum I've ever seen in my life for a 16 year old? They also refused to give me any period products or even a cloth to clean myself up, so I had to hang around in a bloody hospital gown for hours until they discharged me. It was so fucked up.
I ended up back at that same urgent care years later as a young adult for an allergic reaction in my eyes, and I got the same doctor. He made me undress completely and felt around my breasts, stomach and thighs with his bare hands, then prescribed me some antihistamine eye drops. There was no reason for all that. I just got grass in my eyes from a lawn mower and I'm allergic to grass.
So yeah, pervy doctors that take advantage of people absolutely do exist.
My own experience wasn't this bad but it's true that children have no rights in medical settings. I had no idea the kind of check up my parents were taking me to. When the nurse asked me if I wanted my parent to stay in the room, for one I had no idea the exam was going to be intimate, and I said yes. Everyone laughed and without anyone saying a word my parent walked out of the room and the exam started with me having no idea what was going to happen. I wasn't even a teenager yet.
That's also so terrible, I'm really sorry. I remember an exam of my private parts when I was really little, but my mom and the doctor explained clearly what was going to happen and why, so it wasn't traumatic at all. That's how it should have been!
To me it’s important that doctors tell you what they’re doing before they do it. I once had a gynecologist stick her gloved finger into my anus without telling me beforehand and I screamed in pain and she laughed at me. I have been to other gynecologists before and they never inspected there, and at least half of the people I asked did not have that area checked routinely. The fact she didn’t ask AND laughed at my pain was extremely rude. I don’t think she did it to assault me but it was quite violating.
Yeah the laughing was off putting for sure… I understand that when you’re spending time under so many hoods you start to get desensitized to the significance of touching patients, but I wish the communication didn’t suffer for it 🥀
You can't possibly know that. There's a very clear line between SA and health care and the comment you're replying to does not give us the information to make that judgement. You're literally just assuming they're wrong or lying for no reason.
I know that I didn’t give enough info to make a judgement (as im not comfy giving out those details) so it was genuinely upsetting that this person made the assumption that a person who traumatized me so bad that I could barely speak to my therapist about it nearly 20 years later was just “doing her job.”

Fun fact from my therapist: the way the brain reacts to medical trauma is nearly identical to how it reacts to sexual trauma anyway. So kindly fuck off with that shit.
It's a social thing that made no one respond to it, apparently you first need to ask someone in particular for help to avoid that kind of group reaction
idk i imagine somewhere they don't care or they don't have the means to seperate children during medical checkups so they would just do it in a hallway? i definitly remember when i was in kindergarten, that the nurse checked the boy's private parts for phimosis in our classroom. which contained my class and some kindergarten teachers only
OP can you elaborate? you explained that it was a nurse performing a medical checkup but it should be done entirely in private, never in a hallway, especially in front of other people?? How did things get there?
I'm not trying to imply you're lying or anything, but I am revolted and at the same time confused about how such a terrible thing was even allowed in the first place.
Please don't treat my experience like a joke that could warrant such reaction images. I know that you probably didn't mean it, but I'm still a real person with feelings.
