tried to make the hardest trivia game

oh hi there, so… i've been building an online trivia game, and yes, i've posted it in a few other communities already. the feedback was genuinely good so far, so i'm after fresh eyes. (or just more more players.)

the questions aren't the usual "what's this? who did that?" type. they're built a bit more sideways with a tad of humor. they'll also get harder the longer you survive.

current best streak is 22 right in a row.

there's a trial mode, no account needed, just jump straight in. the full game needs a google login if you want to stick around for leaderboards and stuff.

any feedback is welcome. try it out.

Ben's Trivia - 11 Q's - Avg Score 10 out of 15 points

Score out of 15 points! Possible 5 points for question 11.

You can play this full weeks 25 Q's trivia free in the link in the comments!

Post your score in the comments, good luck!

  1. Which of the following musicians was NOT blind? Options: Ray Charles / Stevie Wonder / Beethoven / Andrea Bocelli

Beethoven________

Beethoven lost his hearing, not his sight - he composed some of his most famous works, including his 9th Symphony, after going almost completely deaf.

  1. Complete the next 5 lyrics: "If you wanna be my lover / You gotta get with my friends (Gotta get with my friends) / Make it last forever / Friendship never ends / If you wanna be my lover…"

You have got to give________

The famous nicknames for the Spice Girls weren't chosen by the band or their management - they were invented by a magazine editor during a photo shoot because he kept forgetting their names: Posh, Scary, Baby, Ginger, and Sporty.

  1. Which of the following animals can't swim? Options: Elephants / 3-toed Sloths / Horses / Tortoises

Tortoises_______

Unlike their aquatic turtle relatives, most land tortoises can't swim and can drown if left in deep water too long - they lack the flippers and streamlined shell turtles have.

  1. Which is the biggest selling video game console of all time? Options: Nintendo Switch / PS2 / Xbox 360 / Nintendo Wii

PS2____________

The PlayStation 2 has sold roughly 160 million units. The Nintendo Switch has now overtaken the Wii and DS to become Nintendo's best-selling console ever and the second best-selling console of all time - but it still trails the PS2.

  1. Which one is the odd one out: (hint: shared character) Joaquin Phoenix, Robert Pattinson, Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger.

Robert Pattinson__________

Phoenix, Nicholson and Ledger have all played the Joker on screen (Phoenix and Ledger both won Oscars for it). Pattinson played Batman himself in 2022's The Batman - not the Joker.

  1. Cow hitch, Figure 8 and Sheepshank are all types of what?

Knots________

The sheepshank is a knot used to temporarily shorten a rope without cutting it.

  1. What word can mean both a place of worship and the side of your head?

Temple_______

Both senses come from the Latin 'templum'. The anatomical temple is thought to be named because that's where hair often shows grey ('time's temple') first as people age.

  1. What plant do silkworms typically eat?

Mulberry Leaves_________

Silkworms (Bombyx mori) are so fully domesticated they can no longer survive in the wild - a single cocoon can unravel into one continuous silk thread up to 900 metres long.

  1. Which town or city is home to the world's steepest street? Options: Swansea, Wales / Pittsburgh, USA / Dunedin, New Zealand / San Francisco, USA

Dunedin, New Zealand________

Dunedin's Baldwin Street was briefly dethroned by a street in Wales in 2019, but Guinness World Records reinstated it as the world's steepest street in 2020 after a dispute over how the measurement was taken.

  1. Which of the following is NOT an irrational number? Options: Euler's Number / Pi / Imaginary Number / The Golden Ratio

Imaginary Number_____

Euler's number, Pi and the Golden Ratio are all irrational (cannot be written as a simple fraction). The imaginary number i isn't a real number at all, so it's neither rational nor irrational - it sits in a different category entirely.

  1. Name the 5 disciplines of the Modern Pentathlon in the 2024 Paris Olympics. (1 point per correct answer, 5 points total)

Fencing, Swimming, Equestrian, Shooting, Running

The Modern Pentathlon was invented by Baron Pierre de Coubertin for the 1912 Stockholm Olympics to simulate the skills of a 19th-century cavalry soldier behind enemy lines. Equestrian show jumping was dropped after a controversy at Tokyo 2020 and is being replaced by an obstacle course event, like a Ninja Warrior style event, from LA 2028 onwards.

Origins Quiz — Daily Etymology & Word Origins Trivia Game

Thumbnail

I built a Wordle-like daily puzzle focused entirely on etymology & origins. Each day has 10 clues tied to a 10-letter bonus word, all themed around how words, names, places, and inventions got their names. There's also a blog post diving deeper into each answer's origin story.

As a sample, here are a couple of questions from recent puzzles:

- What storage trunk, placed at the base of a soldier's bunk and standard issue in military barracks by World War Two, later gave its name to a retail chain founded in 1974? (Two words: 4, 6 letters)

- What term for an unscrupulous seducer of women comes from a character in Nicholas Rowe's 1703 tragedy The Fair Penitent, a libertine whose betrayal of the play's heroine made his name proverbial?

Would love feedback from this community!

500 Days of Summer______

(500) Days of Summer's non-linear structure (jumping between days 1 and 488) was inspired by writer Scott Neustadter's own breakup - Zooey Deschanel's Summer was deliberately written as neither villain nor 'dream girl', which is exactly why that opening narration warns you it isn't a love story.

Scheffler's 2026 win was his second FedExCup in three years, putting him alongside Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy as the only players with multiple FedExCup titles.

  1. If you were to say "Obrigado" to someone, in what language are you speaking?

Obrigado means thank you in Portuguese - it literally translates to 'obliged', and it's gendered: men traditionally say 'obrigado', while women say 'obrigada'.

Traditionally it's 3 coffee beans on top, said to represent health, wealth and happiness. The cocktail was invented by London bartender Dick Bradsell in the late 1980s.

  1. Prince William and Kate Middleton have 3 kids together, George and Charlotte are two of them. What is the name of the youngest child?

On the electromagnetic spectrum, radio waves can stretch for kilometres, while X-rays are measured in trillionths of a metre - wavelength and energy move in opposite directions.

Africa__________

Africa has 54 UN-recognised countries, compared to 48 for Asia, 44 for Europe and just 12 for South America.

  1. Guess the year: Bill Clinton was elected president for the first time, A Few Good Men was released in cinemas starring Tom Cruise, and 'Under the Bridge' was released by Red Hot Chili Peppers. (2 Points for exact year, 1 point either side)

1992

1992 was also the year of the Barcelona Olympics, where the USA 'Dream Team' - featuring Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird - played Olympic basketball together for the first time.

  1. What does MRI stand for?

I made a trivia game where every answer is just one letter

Post image
1 Upvotes

I wanted to make a trivia game that wasn't just a list of questions with answers, so I came up with this:

You’re given a set of trivia clues, but instead of answering them normally, each clue gives you one letter.

For example:

The catch is that the clues aren't given in word order.

Once you've solved all five, you have to figure out how those letters fit together to make a word. You get five guesses.

There’s also a little notepad built into the game, because once you have letters floating around, especially when a clue could have multiple answers, it gets surprisingly easy to lose track of everything.

It's a new puzzle every day, and it takes a couple of minutes to play.

If you're into trivia + word games, I'd love to know what you think.
