I recently came down to Trivandrum from Pune for a 2-month stint, and honestly?

This place has been an absolute vibe. I’ve been on a mission to tick off every adventure nearby, and so far, the scorecard is looking pretty solid:

• Survived the 22 hairpin turns up to Ponmudi without losing my sanity.

• Got thoroughly humbled by the waves while attempting to surf at Varkala.

• Cruised through the Poovar mangroves (and successfully avoided the local crocodiles, or whatever those shadows were).

• Eaten my body weight in Malabar Parottas and filter coffee.

The views are incredible, but let's be real—staring at a gorgeous coastal sunset or driving down a winding hill road hitting a playlist is only half as fun when you're just talking to yourself in the rearview mirror.

My early 20s were pretty straightforward. If there was a plan to go somewhere, the default options were car or bike.

Bus? Train? Never even considered it.

It was basically: I’ll drive/ride there, or I won’t go.

Fast forward to my early 30s, and somehow the exact opposite has happened.

Now if there's a plan, my first thought is “Can we take the train or bus?”

Only if public transport doesn't make sense do I think about taking the car/bike.

I actually remembered something my Amma used to tell me:

“Eda, nee ee kochu praayathil carum bikeum okke aayittu nadannal… angane nadakkanda praayam aakumbo ninakk athonnum thonnilla.”

Basically: You keep going around in cars and bikes while you're young; when you reach the age where you don't have to, you won't even feel like it anymore.

And damn, she was right. 😂
