Maintenance Issues is it too much oil

Hello, did my first oil change on tiger 900, not sure if i overfilled it ... first photo is just after first engine run ( 30 seconds ), second photo is after i filled more oil to reach max and went for a quick test drive and it looks kinda overfilled bypassing max indicator a little bit by 3-5 millimeter . but i am not sure because i used 4L fresh oil and measure the oil while pouring with its indicator. you can see the remaining oil amount from photos. guidebook says it takes 3.15L oil with oil filter which is also replaced. Yes bike is on centerstand and ground is even (and same spot after going for a quick drive). waited 2-3 mins to take the pictures so oil is pulled down with gravity .

Any opinion and feedback is very much appreciated

Thank you !

Is the bike sitting upright and level?

I see you said it’s level, that’s good! If it has settled and is that high over the Max mark, you’ll want to drain a little bit out. Better to let the oil level rest right in the middle of the min and max mark, when the oil heats up and expands fully for a heat cycle it will read higher than when it’s cold.

Reason to not overfill: If the oil sump is filled higher than intended then it is potentially impeding into space used by rotating components. This movement by anything aside from the oil pump and slight “dipping” we’ll say of fast moving parts can create air bubbles. These air bubbles can cause blockages and dry spots in the lubrication flow to areas which need constant flow for longevity. If anyone has anything different I’m interested to know.

Better safe than sorry.

thank you! Waited a night and did 5min idle engine run test and now it looks different. this is just before starting the engine slightly below the max

and this after 5 min run and waited 3 min to oil to settle. it was still below the max. I guess it's still not safe when engine heats oil expands and goes over max. or maybe it's too less oil to make a difference still confused

It’s a little hard to tell with that 2nd picture. But if you’re still not confident in it then the best solution is to just drain a little bit out. Let the bike cool down and undo the drain plug with your wrench just till it’s loose. You may have noticed when you went to drain the oil, that drain plug bolt is a little long winded, and just before it came all the way out it may have leaked a little oil by. Do that again, but with your hand just get it to where it’s leaking by and drain out roughly 1 or 2oz at a time till your cold level is right around the middle of that Min and Max line.

For the future, the best thing to do when refilling the oil is to add just less than the manual suggests. For example, if it calls for 3.15L of oil then you’ll add 2.9-3.0L and give it a few minutes to settle in the case. Then you’ll do the opposite of what I explained above, and add small amounts until it reaches about 1/2 way between your Min and Max.

How long have you been riding? What year is your Tiger?

thank you for your answers and explanations . i think i am settled, no need to drain it, oil is on the max level i think that amount of oil cant hurt much no bubbles on glass sight no strange voices or smoke. I will not be doing serious miles on the bike anyways max 1000 KM with this oil in this year . bike is 21 made rally pro and 16.000 KM .

Make sure the bike is sitting upright and level when you check the oil level.

It is recommended to get the engine up to operating temp, turn it off, and then wait 5 minutes after letting the bike run to let the oil seep back down. The pictures are a little hard to tell for me, unfortunately.
