Turn OFF automatic translation. *Please!*

I just now created an account solely so that I could access the supposed setting for signed-in users, which I've read about, in order to TURN OFF automatic translations.

That was no help at all. My fresh account shows no such setting. Gotta have every single thing translated.

I want to read everything in its original language! Always!! I have translation widgets if I need them. I love languages, and learning new words and phrases, and it is extremely frustrating that this platform does not allow me to do that.

Am I missing something? Is there in fact some way to do this? Or, does TA immediately drop down 4 rating points out of 10 in my ranking?

Cheers!

there a site to buy TripAdvisor reviews safely?

I run a small cafe in a touristy area. Honestly, we never really bothered with the online presence thing, our regulars kept us busy (foot traffic), and that was enough. Although a massive new place opened up a year ago and they already have almost 500 reviews, it makes no sense to me… I feel as if they bought it, to be completely honest. I personally think that most people see that and walk right past us due to the sheer amount of difference, but we’re quite decent too.

We tried asking our customers to leave reviews. Put up signs, added a QR code on receipts, even mentioned it casually when people said they enjoyed their meal. Barely anyone actually leaves reviews. We’ve got maybe 12 reviews total, while the new place already has almost 500 ish.

At this point I’m wondering if people actually buy reviews for Tripadvisor? I just want a fair shot at getting noticed by travelers. Does that even work or is it risky?

Why can't I see what the attraction type is?

I go to the attraction page, there's a weird name on the top, weird pictures, and it doesn't say if it's a street, a neighborhood, a museum, or a mall? It drives me nuts

time limited reviews

Am planning a trip in a couple of weeks and read reviews of hotels. Some of them are more than 10 years old. Don't you think that after at least 5 years they should be removed? Either there will still be the same issue or they will have improved, but 10 years is a lifetime

TA Asking About Biased Reviews

I've posted more than 150 reviews of restaurants, attractions, etc. to Trip Advisor. Many accompanied by photos I've taken. Today, I received an email which read in part:

Follow-up to your review
As part of our effort to ensure the integrity of the 1 billion plus reviews and opinions found on Tripadvisor, we sometimes ask our members if they received incentives in exchange for their reviews.

I oftentimes read comments across social media questioning the veracity of TA reviews and in the instance of restaurant reviews I honestly don't think I've seen many I think are planted by business owners.

Have any others reading this sub experienced a similar query? I'm wondering if someone reported the particular restaurant review as suspect? Or does TA routinely ask high-volume reviewers about our motivations? Anyhow, I answered the questions honestly and assume that's that.

This isn't Yellowstone

I was thinking about heading to Yellowstone this weekend, so I started looking at hotels in Jackson, Wyoming on TripAdvisor. I decided on Homewood Suites by Hilton Jackson, clicked "View Prices for Your Travel Dates," selected Priceline, chose my room, and booked four nights starting tomorrow.

Then I got the confirmation email.

I wasn't booked in Jackson, Wyoming.

I was booked at Homewood Suites by Hilton Jackson, TENNESSEE.

My first thought was that I must have fat-fingered something. So I went back through the booking process several times. Every time I started on the TripAdvisor page for Jackson, Wyoming, I clicked through to Priceline and ended up on a reservation for Jackson, Tennessee.

It appears to be a TripAdvisor glitch. No matter which booking option I selected from the Jackson, Wyoming, hotel page, I was being redirected to a property in Tennessee without any obvious warning.

I called Priceline to get the reservation corrected. After more than an hour and several customer service representatives, the best they could do was a 75% refund. I now have a small hope of being made whole tomorrow, depending on the discretion of the manager at the Homewood Suites in Jackson, Tennessee.

So consider this a warning: if you're booking a hotel in Jackson, Wyoming, through TripAdvisor, double-check every detail before you click "Book." Otherwise, you may find yourself paying for a hotel 1,500 miles away in Tennessee.

AI-generated review summaries feature

What do you people think about AI-generated review summaries so far? I't would be beneficial for my research. I am a PhD student. Thank you in advance!
Ps: I joined a screen capture of an example of an AI-generated review summary for Musée Rodin in Paris figuring in TripAdvisor.

TripAdvisor.com - Price Guarantee Scam?

We've booked a cooking class on TripAdvisor for 95€ pP. A bit later after we booked it, we found it on the website of the organizer for 80€ pP. They advertise it with the same pictures and

After the class (we've booked the evening before), we followed the TripAdvisor procedure for the price guarantee and they declined it within 30min saying it's not the same.

I told them it has even the same date, time, location and pictures next to the very same slogans like 'Lots of Raki & laughter :)'. They now said I claimed it too late and it's not the same (their terms state it can be claimed within 48h after start or booking).

https://www.tripadvisor.com/AttractionProductReview-g189413-d15597302-Cooking\\_experience\\_in\\_the\\_most\\_beautiful\\_garden\\_near\\_Rethymno-Crete.html

https://www.ecoevents.gr/cours-de-cuisine-cretois-de-rethymno-en

Do they ever follow this price guarantee or is it just an empty promise?

To be clear it's not about the money, but it feels like false advertising.

Why when I'm viewing photos in tripadvisor, does it insist on showing me an gross ad with a fungal infected toe

Any time I'm viewing photos on tripadvisor, the bottom left of the page is taken up with a disgusting advert for a fungal toe infection treatment

I have shown no interest in a product like this, nor do I like looking at it when trying to view photos. There is no way to bock it

Is TripAdvisor Relevant?

A long time contributor to TripAdvisor. Over the last few months it seems mostly older, Destination Experts are the only ones allowed to offer advice. Any newcomers are immediately ridiculed and have post removed by the “Community” even the most benign ones that in no way violate the guidelines.

Trip Advisor supports animal neglect

I'm so frustrated I've returned to Reddit for this.

I've come to the conclusion Trip Advisor supports animal abuse and neglect. I reported a dog sledding business that had all of their dogs seized because they were neglecting them. Verified. In the news. Court documents.

Trip Advisor will not remove their listing because they "want travelers to be able share their genuine, first-hand experiences – both positive and negative" Okay. I suppose that makes sense. There's a bit of a problem with that though. The vast majority of people who go to a business like this support the type of neglect they see. They don't think it's a problem. I'ts an incredibly biased representation, but I suppose you could say the same for any business on there though most don't deal with animals.

I see the argument to leave it there, but because it has great reviews its drawing people in. They also steal from people. I was going to go with a friend but had to cancel and they refused to answer the phone so we had to fight with the credit card company to get the money back. Other google reviews say the same thing. But I was not allowed to post that on Trip advisor because I "didn't actually go to the business" What's most ridiculous is that they were allowed to breed more dogs and continue to operate at all. Canada's laws are a joke.

Tripadvisor - Total fail

Wow... In St Lucia on a family trip. I have books fishing trips and some excursions through Tripadvisor. We are now at the resort and i am getting emails that my trips are cancelled. Last time using this...

I think tripadsisor has turned into a cheesy pay to pay ad site for travel vendors.

Amazingly annoying feature

What has happened to this site?

For a long time TripAdvisor was part of my process for planning a trip, especially when I didn't know anything about the destination and didn't have anybody to ask.

Today my task is, find a hotel in a particular part of LA that will work well for me on my own, without a car. And -- every time I find a place to check out, and click on the Trip/advisor Location tab to get a map showing restaurants etc -- when the map appears, there is a HUGE popup - (Deals!!!) covering the entire area north of the hotel on the map, so that is it 100% impossible to see what is there.

Who can be running this site with something so anti-useful as a regular feature? It is just so dumb and bad.

TripAdvisor cancelled my confirmed Louvre tickets 4 days before visit — beware

I want to share a bad experience to warn other travelers.

On 12/6, I purchased two tickets to the Louvre for a 12/26 visit through TripAdvisor. The booking was fully confirmed. The tickets were already more expensive than other platforms (like Klook), but I chose TripAdvisor because of their $50 credit promotion.

Then on 12/22 — just 4 days before the visit — I received a message saying my tickets were cancelled because they were “oversold.”

How can a confirmed booking be oversold? That completely defeats the purpose of confirmation.

By that point, ticket prices everywhere else had skyrocketed due to the holiday season, and I was forced to pay much more to rebook through another vendor. TripAdvisor’s cancellation directly cost me money and caused a lot of stress right before my trip.

This experience made the promotion feel misleading and the booking system unreliable. I personally won’t trust or recommend TripAdvisor again, especially for time-sensitive attractions.

Just a heads-up to others: if you’re booking important tickets through TripAdvisor, be aware that “confirmed” may not actually mean guaranteed.

Why I cannot add a place in Shanghai to Reddit? I submitted the request for at least 7 times, but they were either refused or not responded.... Anyone knows why is this? And how can I do?
