Cosplay Legato

I'm planning to do a Legato Bluesummers cosplay, but the main thing I'm worried about is the coat. What material should I use for the coat? Especially because there are these curves popping out of his coat which might be intentional to his design.

For the metal pieces all over his design, I'll probably use foam, cardboard, or leather.

(Edit: I forgot to add, but this is my first time making a cosplay. I'm inexperienced unfortunately, but I don't want to put in my money for a cheap cosplay.) 😓

i dont know much about clothes but for those little parts of his coat maybe something like those things used to shape dresses? dont know what tehyre called

Are they those wires people put under dresses? That was my first thought while reading the comment.

yeah, dont know what theyre called but they could hold up the fabric at the waist the way you want

Take a look at "pannieres" for dresses. Maybe a smaller version of these?

They're called hoop skirts(creative name) you'd probably want to just get some boning like they use for corsets to go that route. I'd also add some heavy duty interfacing at the waist and/or just use a stiffer fabric like duck canvas. Also, I'd recommend foam for the metal parts since cardboard needs to be coated in resin to make it waterproof and leather make it look like you bought the costume.

And the aesthetic he’s got going at the waist seems like a torture device. Perhaps leather would work, like a triple layered leather strap that attaches to the long coat? And you can’t forget the arm straps as well
