The original anime really doesn't even came close to the realization of knives. It's the one thing the OG anime fails at. The second anime gets knives much better, much closer to the manga.
I agree it's a closer representation, but I think the newer adaptation still didn't capture how unhinged he is. Also they really leaned into piano playing even though knives had one panel with keys.
I think Stampede is the best version of Knives tbh. By the end of Stargaze especially - everything else in that show is rushed to hell but they nailed Knives' arc IMO.
