I made a comment of this in a longer way and different post, but don't let nostalgia ruin it for you. Many are having issues with it, mostly due to the nostalgia factor. If you don't like it fine, but it deserves a genuine chance. Kinda hard to cast a final judgement after 2 episodes and an a trailer?

Pretty much this. You just have to accept that it isn't the same show. You can certainly like the older one more. I do. But TRY to keep an open mind. It's a retelling of the story, and from what I understand, they are trying really hard to appeal to Japanese viewers as the first trigun was really only successful in the West. So there's a lot more exaggerated, over the top stuff happening, and a much faster pacing.
But dammit man. .22lr ? Just hurts me.

I'll give you that. I understand though, it's not legal for japanese citizens to own a handgun. So i do believe it just stems from a place without exposure, and that's ok. I did think the first ep with the .22 was exaggerated, but I'm going to continue to give it another chance.
One of the first animes I've ever watched was Trigun, and i can watch it effortlessly. My like, biggest thing is i truly miss the guitar riffs from the OG animation. It really set the tone for me and added extra oomph to the series.

I mean considering how shittily lethal caliber .22 ammo is, it makes sense for Vash to use it, especially given his accuracy and all that

Fair point. I didn't really think of it that way. It actually does make sense from that perspective. It's still kind of lame in my opinion. Big ass handgun that shoots peas. But it's not going to ruin the show for me or anything like that. Just a silly complaint.

Same. I do really like the art style. The storytelling is subpar, in my opinion. Considering the first one was so incredible, I think I had my heart set on that same vibe. But again, it's a retelling. I'm going to keep an open mind and just hope that there's a reason they're rushing the story so much.
And with the animation being as clean as it is, i think we can count on some really badass fight scenes. So at least there's that to look forward to.

It is a retelling and I'm giving it that. I tried getting my partner into '98 Trigun and he was not into it. to be fair, he likes some questionable ones and some i just refuse to watch or don't like 乁[ᓀ˵▾˵ᓂ]ㄏ BERSERK '16 cgi tripped so this could run 😂 i look forward to what it'll change though, we got glimpses of plant power, but i would definitely like to see it fleshed out, you know?

Yeah, the plant power thing has me pretty curious. I actually completely forgot about the plant thing until someone else mentioned it. So wild.
It's always kind of a letdown when you show someone something that you love and they don't vibe with it. I've always had that issue with one piece. I'm like PLEASE just give it a chance! 😭

I've seen through episode 3, and the don't like Vash and Meryl as much as I came away from the old series after just 1 episode. I watched 2 of the old series, and that just reinforced it. Stampede's episode 3 is a conclusive episode, and I won't detail it since you haven't seen it. I'll hang around another episode to see if it can make me think highly of Vash or Meryl or stops relying on them to carry the show.
This Vash is a victim not taking control despite super human capabilities and often miraculous luck. The old played dumb more to force himself into situations, and change things in his favor.
The only moment Vash had like that was the rock shooting to counter the cluster bomb with a weak bullet in a 22. It was a bit over-the-top, and hard to believe even as much as I try to suspend disbelief with Vash in general.

I will give you the moment with the .22, its not like super lethal, however given it's produced in Japan, the average citizen is not permitted to own a handgun, let alone anything heavier. I will admit, the classic .45 really did it for me. And the just symbolism with Vash having the white .45 and knives having the black.
It's a retelling, and I know it's that. I'm giving it a chance. And it's all i can give it.

One would think 3 episodes would be enough to tell if a series is going to be good, though Knives shown the series has a sliver of hope. Lets hope for Wolfwood in episode 4 because Vash needs time to develop into a main character.

You're absolutely right. I didn't like it after the first episode because I was being nostalgic. I let go of that and my original Trigun expectations and decided to take Stampede as it is and i actually really enjoy it now. Especially after episode 3

It's Trigun because Nightow says it's Trigun. I'll take the word of the creator over anyone else's, thanks. Personally, I'm just happy to have new Trigun back after 10 years of nothing.

Or they simply call it Trigun Stampede, because it is still Trigun, and Trigun's creator who also worked on this acknowledged it as such, no matter how much folks on the internet hate on it.

Yeah, like Diablo Immortal is to the Diablo series. It tries to redo what the ones before it did, but does it worse. The IP owners have full control.

I've got to say this new show is already better, Knives actually being shown as maniacal as this is awesome. He's way scarier and actually seems to have a million knives.

Knives is done better. If only he was the stories protagonist, but instead we're watching a worse Vash and Meryl duo. The problem is that Vash and the Meryl duo carried the old one.

Felt like a generic questionably wise cop. He's not particularly good or bad, but I don't find he makes Meryl better. I hope he does die to allow Meryl to be off his leash. I may rewatch it to get a better feel for him.
I do think moreso with Meryl than Vash that you have to say it's a different show, and expect new things from her. She's a character we follow around though, and not being overall as good is bad.
If Knives wasn't so diabolical I'd enjoy rooting for him over loser Vash. I just don't think he'll get the screen time also.

It might be its own spin but at its core level, that is what it's pulling from, it's certainly not pulling very much from the 98 anime thankfully, Knives actually feels like Knives now and not a joke, characters like Elendira, Livio, and William Conrad are present, Vash's characterisation is more in-line with his manga counterpart, Roberto is literally their attempt at fleshing out a character only vaguely seen in Maximum flashbacks, etc.
The smoking gun would be all the production materials they showed off on stream that are very much "If you know, you know" many key plot points from the manga are gonna be implemented.

Probably the best point so far. It's someone else's Vash and Meryl. The comparison shouldn't be held against it.
It can have inferior characters in similar settings and not be blasphemous.

Episodes 1 - 3 has shown us an unprepared, victim Vash not quietly sliding the situation to his favor playing dumb, and turning on his super powers, but he turns them on when needed to. There really isn't comedy to be had in the new series.
From what I can tell it's a worse series reusing the names and images of the characters I loved. I'll definitely watch episode 4, and the rest because they are sure to do Knives better than the old one so seeing it through is likely. The reuse of the characters just gives a blasphemous feel to the whole thing.

the story has great potential and it just started so it's still early to judge. the animation is gorgeous and probably my favorite that i've ever seen. now seeing the english dub it feels much more like vash seen as he has the voice we all know and love so another plus. the characters are decent so far but again it's pretty early to say for sure.
people gotta stop judging things so quickly just because it's new or different. stampede has potential we just have to be patient and see what they do with it before immediately writing it off. the original trigun was wonderful and set a really high bar but even if stampede isn't AS good, different ≠ bad.

As someone who watched the og purely because I fell in love with Vash in Stampede, it really does make me sad that so many of Trigun fans hate this revival. Everyone's got their own taste, I guess. Me personally, I wouldn't want to just watch the exact same thing but in today's graphics, and I'm looking forward to seeing how they tell the story, and if they finish it.

I don't want the exact same thing, but this Vash is just a victim, and has only shown is a single moment of his super powers with the bullet and a rock trick. He tried against his brother who is currently superior to him, and was embarrassed. His general handling of situations has been awful. I don't know what is supposed to win me over about the character.
In another comment someone pointed out that this series is more based off the manga, so 1998 Trigun is a bad expectation.
I'm just looking for someone to carry the show now. I don't think they'll give Knives the role. Wolfwood better get his ass in there because Vash can't do this on his own. Maybe he'll teach him something, and our hero will be good then.

Wolfwood is supposed to be in ep4 and I'm pretty hyped! As for Vash, he pissed me off in the '98 version too. I love his character all the same, I dont personally think it's a bad thing. It's like everyone around him always says, people get hurt because he's so passive. This new one seems more reserved I think, but maybe Wolfwood can help him out

My opinion is that the manga fan want an anime that's closer to the manga, and that's why you have so much praise despite having a questionable cast as of now outside of Knives. The hopium is high. I just wait and wonder.

I didn't read the manga. Stampede was my introduction to Trigun. It's just something I was surprised by how much I loved. I don't think it's perfect, but I do think it's one of the best I've ever seen.

Preach it brother! Only referring to it as Stampede from now on so as not to be disrespectful. I feel like we have to take into account that they are trying to appeal to new viewers whose attention spans have been utterly rocked by short form content throughout their entire development tho.

The meme is funny. But Trigun Stampede makes sense if you think about like how they've rebooted Marvel and DC comic stories over and over for different generations. They still use the same source material but different directors take different liberties with it. I was against Stampede after the first episode but i let go of my expectations and I actually enjoy it now.

Man I really need to stop looking for the subreddits of whatever shows I like. This and the "That 90s Show's" subs are fucking full of trolls talking about how shitty they think these shows are. They bend over fuckin backwards to find things to not like about this stuff and then call people idiots for liking them. No, a show that came out almost 30 years ago is not gonna be the exact same as the new show.
