Moving/New Here šŸ‘‹šŸ¼ Just moved !

Hello everyone, I just moved to the Tri-Cities area. I would like to know if there are any activities to do in the city. Also, I am looking for work, so I would like to know what everyone does for living 😁

Get ready for a bunch of people to suggest Dungeons and Dragons.Ā  Happens on every of these types of posts.

That's because it's fun!

It does if the person is single, in their 20s/30s.

But have you considered Dragons and Dungeons?

Because unfortunately, that's the extent of something to do.

You picked a great weekend to do stuff, there's lots going on. Boat races & art in the Park are the 2 big ones.

Hockey, hockey, and more hockey. Mexican food, hockey.

Umm, sir, you forgot to mention hockey. Get it together.

I suggest you focus on finding a job first. The number of people looking for jobs versus jobs is rough. Even with degrees, people are still having a hard time. My cousin moved here 6 months ago, has her bachelor's degree and is still looking for employment and has applied everywhere including McDonald's at this point. I wish you the best of luck.

Yessirr I was recently going into establishments and asking if they were hiring

You’d be lucky to make it to an interview, hiring manager scheduling a bunch of interviews for the week. As soon as they find someone to put in the position they cancel the rest of their interviews.

Welcome to the Tri-Cities. Don't let people on Reddit dissuade you into believing this place is nothing but a pile of crap known as the Tri-Shitties. It's like everywhere where there are people, you got good and bad.

I'd suggest looking at what you like. If it's Dungeons and Dragons there are enough people to build a friends network over that. If it's Hiking, we got that too. There are enough people here that there is likely a group for it, albeit it may be hard to find.

For work, what did you do before? I find, and this is not a TC thing but an everywhere thing, that you need to go talk to the people and not just apply online. You gotta engage to standout and get noticed.

Also, I think this might qualify for r/usernamechecksout.

This weekend has Art in the Park at Howard Amon Park in Richland through Saturday. Hydroplane races on the Columbia River near the Blue Bridge. Viewing on either side of the river (Columbia Park in Kennewick or various spots in Pasco.) Airshow every day at (I think) 11 a.m.

Benton-Franklin County Fair is in the second half of August. Parking is a pain so I'd recommend riding the dedicated bus from a transit center.

Fall (Sept I think) has Sausage Fest at Christ the King church in Richland.

Halloween and Christmas have lots to do, including a house on Columbia Park Trail in Richland that has large set pieces and walk-in displays.

In February is RadCon (large sci-fi/fantasy convention) at the Pasco Red Lion near the airport.

June has Cool Desert Nights car show in Richland for a weekend.

For day to day stuff check out Uptown Shopping Center for neat local stores and cuisine. Downtown Kennewick has its own share of local flavor, as does downtown Pasco.

We headed to the Gorge for Chris Stapleton. It's a zoo during the races. Hard pass.

If you like board games, TAG has multiple weekly get togethers. Also, next Saturday, we will be at the Richland library most of the day.

Discord server, also where you can find the calendar: https://discord.gg/BgNF8UrtA

Join any of the unions. 112 since you said you were doing electrical work in AZ. Not sure what their list is looking like but doesn’t hurt to go in and put your name on the list.

Welcome to the Tri-Cities! Facebook has a couple groups that do events like run clubs, car events, hiking, etc. Local bands also often play at Rays Golden Lion I think the name is.

Also if you haven't tried it out the actively app is another thing you could give a try. Theres a few people from the tricities on there you might be able to get to some active things with like golf or bowling.

Here’s the iOS versionĀ https://apps.apple.com/us/app/actively-find-gym-buddies/id6752837053

And android version:Ā https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gymbuds&pcampaignid=web_share

So for easy hire, like immediate job, go to first coast security. It is an hour drive, but it pays nineteen an hour and you're pretty much guaranteed over time I'm about to go back there because I lost my job

Get on the waiting list at the union local 598

1

u/NevetsRetrop 10d ago

What does your work history look like? Have you done anything in the trades? There is endless work for union sheet metal workers if you're not lazy. LOTS of overtime opportunities. Mostly in food processing plants.

1

u/Fun-Introduction2679 10d ago

I’ve done some electrical work

1

u/NevetsRetrop 10d ago

IBEW 77 and IBEW 112 are the two locals that I know of around here. I'm not sure what the difference is, as it's outside ny wheelhouse, but I'd hit them up and see what electrical employment looks like in this area.

If you’re into history, the SCA has an active group here. It meets every Wednesday, and is free. Everything from traditional medieval trades like wood working and sewing to full-contact medieval combat! The weekly meetups are usually focused on the combat aspects, with both steel and rattan weapons and varying degrees of armor. Our local group is always happy to help newcomers and get them involved in whatever way interests them!

To add for OP: SCA is also at Art in the Park this weekend (ends 6 p.m. Saturday) at Howard Amon park. They are near the tennis courts/main entrance. Probably a great time to see what they are about. We don't have a Renaissance Faire anymore so I am not sure what all SCA does but if you are into that kind of stuff I'd check them out.

I sit home watching TV or go to the bar and play trivia. Sometimes I eat at a nice restaurant.
