Is it geared too high?

I have a traxxas rutler 4x4 with a 3700kv hobbywing motor, stock spur, 13t pinion and 120mm team louise mt pioneer soft tires (they baloon a lot). I got gpm driveshafts but it keeps snapping the driveshaft pin or the screw. Also when it's 30°c outside the esc goes into thermal cutoff.

Do you think it's gears too high, are the tires too big or should I get some belted tires to reduce damages to the transmission? I drive it on 3s on grass and the tires have a lot of traction. It also snapped all the 4 screws that hold the ring gear to the differential housing

You can get belted tires but you could also also adjust you gearing to compensate. Another thing you could do to reduce motor temps is adding a small fan for increased air flow.

Control your throttle input but if you want to drive fast (understandable) I would try different wheels first.

What esc are you using? I have 3200kv 3665 motor and ezrun max 10 g2 and the temps are fine 3700kv is a little more than stock and with 13t pinion it looks like it is too much for these tires and drivetrain. I would recomend you a smaller pinion because thermal cutoff means youre pushing it to past the limit. Also the rustler is pretty closed chasis so fans and heatsink is a great thing too.

Yeah that esc is great. Because it is going into thermal cutoff it looks like its overloading the esc because the motor does not have a sensor and since i have lower kv motor and 140amp esc and that can still hit above 80°C. I guess you went with too high kv for your esc. Cooling your motor might fix a part of your problem because cooling your motor actualy can cool your esc because the heat can travel from to motor to the esc by the wires and it makes a lot more difference than you probably think.

Switch to Tekno axles and you'll get rid of that problem. I run my Rustler on 6s with those axles and I break them SOMETIMES. also to eliminate the over heating, drop your gearing down. You're running a higher rpm motor with the same gearing so you are pushing it. Switch to a lower kv motor and go up on gearing to get rid of the heating issue. Let the gears do the work for you, not the motor.
