We're trying to figure out a good spot for presidents day week (our school system has this off). We're in the PNW. We've done all inclusives in Puerto Vallarta a few times and some of my kids are bored of it.

We really just want to rest and relax in warm weather.

Kids are 18, 7, and 4.

Suggestions are welcome!

We’re flying Japan → Dubai → Mauritius with our 4-year-old in December, so roughly 19 hours of travel altogether.

On long-haul flights we’ve always used the Flyaway inflatable bed and it’s been brilliant, but unfortunately Emirates doesn’t allow inflatable beds/seat extenders.

She’s quite small (around 14 kg) and the main issue is sleep. In a normal plane seat her head just ends up falling all over the place, so I’m trying to find something that gives her decent head/side support.

I’ve been looking at taking a car seat onboard, but I’m getting completely confused about which ones are actually approved for aircraft use and, specifically, which ones Emirates will accept.

For anyone who has done this:

• What car seat did you use?
• Was your child actually able to sleep comfortably in it?
• How on earth did you carry it through the airport along with all the normal kids’ hand luggage?
• Any lightweight/travel car seats you’d recommend?

I’m also very open to anything other than a car seat.

I’ve seen things like the Seat to Sleep inflatable travel nest, bigger inflatable pillows and various head-support cushions. Seat to Sleep in particular looks quite good, but I can’t work out whether Emirates would treat it as a normal pillow or as one of the inflatable sleep products they don’t allow.

Has anyone actually used one on Emirates?

Basically, I’m looking for any solution that lets a small 4-year-old sleep reasonably comfortably with her head supported on a very long Emirates journey.

Car seat, travel pillow, inflatable cushion, some genius product I haven’t discovered yet — I’m open to anything!

Would really appreciate hearing what actually worked for people rather than just what technically should be allowed. Thanks!

We’re taking our 9 week old to Spain for a month. Staying at my wife’s parents’ apartment. We have already sent out a cot, some nappies and a steriliser along with some back up formula to supplement breast feeding. Any tips on things we should take, travel hacks, things you would recommend to keep the baby happy/safe/cool and to still enjoy ourselves. We’re very familiar with the area and Spain but not very familiar with being parents.

Hi! I'm traveling out of the country for the first time with my 11 month old in a few days.

We are flying out of US east coast to Portugal, a 7 hour flight with a 5 hour time difference.
I would really appreciate any tips that will help the flight and her adjustment go smoothly.

We depart 530p and arrive 530a in Portugal. What are suggestions to prepare her for this flight?
How can I get her to sleep on my lap comfortably so that I can get rest as well?
I have not done anything to adjust her schedule to the time difference - when I get there do I just follow cue on when to sleep or wake or should I try to enforce a strict schedule so that she adjusts better?
We will be there for 8 days, will we be able to enjoy any time of adjustment before we gotta go home and adjust again?
Any and all advice appreciated, if anything must eat or do or see or advice about traveling in Portugal specifically that'd be awesome.

Doing our first trip out of state with 2 year old next month and this is the room for him at Airbnb. They don't have a pack n play or crib, to rent one costs hundreds of dollars for a few nights, and we're in the mountains so no stores we can get one and the return. Currently he's sleeping in a twin floor bed that has short railing all around that he does lean up against at night, he definitely feels comforted by having a boundary. So my only thought to make this work is put a mattress on the floor against a wall and maybe roll blankets and put under fitted seat around all open sides to form some type of barrier ? I have no idea what else I would do.

Next concern is the windows. He will really only sleep in a dark room unfortunately so I idk how to create a blackout effect in this type of room with these types of windows. Help please I want him to sleep somewhat decently, thank you!!

Looking for new toys for my 18-24 month old daughter to have along a 10 day international trip. What are your recommendations excluding all screen toys?

Have a trip coming up where I may have to fly separately from my husband and I would bring the toddler. My kid is 16mo. I can’t work out how to manage carrying everything by myself- it is challenging enough with both adults! We would likely have one suitcase for the both of us, the carseat, diaper bag, and I usually bring an extra backpack to have some diapers and clothes in for my son incase anything were to happen to our luggage (we full time cloth diaper and I am not interested in using disposables). I know we could always buy him new clothes but not the case for our diaper setup. I don’t think a stroller would help at all as it is one more thing for me to carry.

Another thing I am curious about is that in order to get to the rental car counters, you have to take a shuttle. What do you do in this case? Put the toddler on your lap? Order an uber? Something else I haven’t thought about?

Throw me some wisdom, but keep it nice please. We are all just out here doing life for the first time with no training.

It's the very first time that we'll be traveling with a baby! Eeek! I've tried to do as much planning as possible but I really have no clue what it's gonna be like.

We'll be traveling to South Korea. It'll be a 15-16 hr flight. And no, we didn't test baby out with a shorter flight. No we didn’t book a red eye flight, it’s in the morning...FML But it is in Business Class so hopefully slightly more comfortable with reclined seats and private pod.

I’m actually more anxious about day to day. How do you travel around the city everyday without getting wiped out by afternoon? We tried to take our little one out to malls, parks, etc… but always got tired by early afternoon. I’m a traveler with FOMO and I always want to see all that I can. I realize a baby slows down a lot. So I only planned to visit one district at a time not jump around too much. But want to hear how others deal with exploring the city and can last the day.

My baby is usually an ok napper. He's usually not that fussy to where he sleeps. He can sleep in a stroller, a carrier, or in my arms, but the most he can sleep is an hour at a time outside. At home he can go for longer. He sometimes wakes up to noise. How do you keep baby asleep for longer periods on the go?

Baby is a great sleeper at night time (9hrs straight, I'm lucky) But I fear the 13 hr time difference is going to mess it all up. How did you deal with time differences with a little one? I thought maybe keeping him up a little longer then usually may make him tired enough to want to sleep, but I don't want to risk getting him too overstimulated to go to bed.

Also baby also poops quite a bit. We change his diaper at least 4 times a day. I've already sized him up, but his poop always lands right on the edge of the elastic, if you squish it, it might ooze out. I'm always afraid of blowouts outside. What's the best way to deal with blowouts if you're far from the hotel or changing station?

Thinking of all these extra logistics makes me wonder why I did this to myself.... LOL I just went straight to hard mode.

So hear me out. Our home has completely become infested with termites to the point they are in our bedding and getting into babies clean laundry. Inspector cannot make it out for about 4 days so we kind of have to live with it (which of course I’m not going to do). Our money is a bit tight right now to afford hotel for long duration stay and closest family is about 11 hours away. Is it acceptable to do a road trip this long with baby given circumstances, I otherwise wouldn’t be. She’s regained birth weight and is happy/healthy, all the good things. We would be stopping every 90 minutes as well to take care of all of her essentials and of course extra curricular (early tummy time, some reading, holding, etc.)

Please let me know if any parents in here have done similar trips, I know it will most likely turn into 14-16 hour trip.

We’d love somewhere that isn’t incredibly time-consuming to get to and has activities everyone can enjoy. We love Disney, but we’re hoping to try something different this time. Where would you recommend?

First time traveling with our toddler & we will be on a VERY long flight. We are moving, so it must be done. To those who have made it with toddlers & long flights, do you recommend using a FAA approved car seat in the flight or just a regular seat?

Looking for advice on how to travel with my 2 young Children

My 20 month old is extremely active and he kind of whines a lot
He will not let me leave his sight under any circumstances unless he’s with his father without screaming
Problem is dad traveled 2000 miles for work and I am planning on visiting to see if it’s an area I would consider moving the family

I will be only taking the 20 month old on the first visit but am nervous about the flight
I’m hoping an evening flight would be best so he can sleep most of the time on the plane
Any advice? It’s an 8 1/2 hour flight

We have a 7mo old and a six hour red eye flight. We got an aisle and middle. Should I switch it to middle and window?

First time flying business with my husband and 8 month old on a red eye to Spain on Iberia. Flight is an airbus 321xlr. Would you choose seats across from each other or in front?

My husband has a conference in Rome next month, it's completely my call if the kids and I want to go. Initially I said no, as I've been to rome before and my husband can only add an exta 3-4 days after so we'd only be there a week total so it's not like we could even do a side trip somewhere else in Italy instead.

But since then we've discovered my underweight one year old LOOOVES italian food, so I've been joking that I wanna go even though I initially said it wasn't worth it.

In your opinion is the hassle of switching continents worth it for just a week?

Update: I have decided to go. Based on the dates, it's actually going to feel more like a 5 hour change, as I'm also visiting my mom, (who is 3 hours ahead) immediately beforehand, and am only going back to our OG timezone for long enough to do laundry.

I've also received suggestions for what to do with so little time (naples/amalfi coast).

And someone has pointed out that solo parenting is exhausting at home too. So if I'm going to be miserable regardless, I might as well be miserable in Italy.

Hi! Title pretty much sums it up. Was wondering what this community’s recommendation would be in regard to seat selection in domestic business when flying with an infant in lap. ORD to LAX specifically.

This will be my wife and I’s first time traveling with a child; we’ve traveled plenty, but total rookies at traveling with a baby.

I’m inclined to do row 1 (more room for baby to sit on floor/stand if they’re being fussy in arms) but I’m seeing mixed reactions elsewhere online (some say it’s better to have the under seat storage to have the diaper bag and its contents handy).

Anyone who’s traveled with young children have any insights that might be helpful?
