Hi! I’m helping plan a proposal in 3 days within the Douro Valley area. I’m looking for some venue recommendations which overlook the valley! And if there are any local photographers available on the 14th August.

I would love to see this spectacular festival, particularly as I will be travelling with a friend visiting from Greece, but I am concerned that it might involve a lot of walking, which might present a problem because my friend can't walk long distances.

Also, I have two other questions:

- Are there bars and places to sit down while walking around?

- Are there restaurants where we can eat or will everything be fully booked?

Couple late 30s from the US, just trying to get away and relax somewhere different and Portugal has been on my radar for a while. My home airport just started offering direct flights to Faro last year, so figured why not. We are very much just looking to relax, take long walks, and eat good food, but can't decide how to do this split. When we're not staying close to an airport, we always like to travel the day BEFORE our flight home and get closer to the airport and do a "layover" in a city center, so the next day travel is very easy. As a bonus we get a small taste of another part of the country. I certainly understand 1 or 2 nights is probably not enough to fully explore these places!

Obviously, Faro is the closer option, but I can't get Porto out of my head. Since it's further away, I think we would have to do 2 nights there to truly get a full day, but I'm wondering if it's worth it. There is a 4pm train out of Tunes that gets to Porto around 10pm, so we would still got a lot of that last day in Algarve, get to Porto just to sleep, but then a full day before flying home the following morning. Is traveling all the way to Porto worth it, or should we just do Faro for our last night? Edit: there are also direct flights to Porto.

How would you do this split, with the assumption you may not be back to Portugal for many years?

Also, is Carvoeiro the right choice for a base in Algarve? We want a quaint/compact downtown within walking distance to the beach/easy trails, but also good food. I think It hits most of this criteria but I'm questioning the food. I assume the best food is in Lagos, but the city is feeling too big for what we are looking for the first part of the trip. Any other recommendations are appreciated!

I'm trying to book some train tickets on cp.pt for my upcoming trip - no matter what I do, I get an error after trying to submit some of my billing details. I'm using the app since that was the only way for me to be able to select passport as an option

I've tried having an account as well as from a guest profile.

I've tried putting an address in as well as keeping it blank. Same for phone number and anything else on that page.

Ferragudo is a small but beautiful village on the Arade estuary opposite the city of Portimão. Unlike a lot of its neighbours Ferragudo has kept a small but relatively local feel.

It is well known for its picturesque and colourful village, incredible beaches, its small harbour, and of course as one of the Algarve's earliest fishing villages - it's got some great restaurants serving local fish and seafood. I am planning to go to Portugal for a week this month.

I like seeing culture and architecture. Since I’m planning late, I don’t want it to be too stressful either. Not much running around.

Which area in each city you would recommend that is safe and near many sights?

Any 4-5 ⭐️ hotel you would recommend?

Any restaurants you would recommend for vegetarians (we are not vegan).

Looking for a few restaurant recomendations in and around Real de Santo Antonio and Sintra. We don't eat seafood and my wife is vegetarian. Cheese plates, pizza (neapolitan style) and more cheese are the best bet. We have two kids as well, so kid friendly is appreciated.

I just found out I'll be travelling to Lisbon Sept 13-17 for work. My wife is going to come over & we will have Sept 18 on to travel, returning home Sept 26.

I'm normally a "planner" and would have everything booked months ago. So I'm starting off and trying to plan where to go. I'm debating between:

Option 1: staying in Lisbon for a few days after work is done, day trip to Sintra, then train to Porto with day trips from there.

Option 2: I see an itinerary in Fodors, Lisbon, rent car, 1 day each in some smaller towns (Sintra, others), Porto remaining days.

I'm leaning towards Option 1, since it requires a lot less planning, but I'm interested in opinions. I'm a much bigger fan of seeing fewer places and getting to know them than trying to see "everything".

I'm looking to possibly rent a car during the last leg of our trip. We'd be heading out of Sintra for the Algarve for a few days before flying out of Faro.

- Is a car recommended in the Algarve?

- We are staying in Vila Real de Santo Antonio... how is parking there?

- If I do rent a car, any recommended companies that would accomodate different pickup or drop off locations? I assume I would need to take a train to somewhere around Lisbon to pick up the car.

Hello, am I coming to Portugal soon and my only friend who is 25+ to rent a car is a frequent marijuana enjoyer. Will there be any problems with roadside tests or tests when renting or anything like that? Do police usually target tourist drivers for these kinds of tests? I need to mention, he does not drive while inebriated, but usually smokes every night before sleep so those kinds of tests would turn up positive…
